🌎💚 A road trip around Nizwa, the ancient capital of the Sultanate of Oman.
👉 You can’t miss to see the Bahla Fort - UNESCO World Heritage Site. 35 minutes from Nizwa town, at the base of the Jebel Akhdar mountains, in the middle of an oasis, Bahla Fort is one of the oldest, largest and most famous forts in the Sultanate of Oman. Built by the Banu Hebhan tribe in the 13th century, the fort was in danger of being destroyed but now is completely restored, using the original materials and techniques.
👉 Nizwa old town. A living museum. We fell in love with this authentic place full of history. We haven't encountered the atmosphere here anywhere on our route. We stayed near Nizwa Fort, in a 450-year-old building. We walked through the narrow streets, through the famous shuk, ate with the locals and admired their traditions. Nizwa Fort is the building that dominates the old city, an exceptional example of ancient Omani architecture.
👉 15 minutes from Nizwa we found the ruins of old Tanuf, a village that was bombed by the British in the 1950’s, during the Jebel Akhdar War. It's worth a short stop.

👉 Fortul Bahla, inclus în Patrimoniul Mondial UNESCO, este unul dintre locurile care nu trebuie ratate. La 35 de minute de orașul Nizwa, la baza munților Jebel Akhdar, în mijlocul unei oaze, Fortul Bahla este unul dintre cele mai vechi, mai mari și mai faimoase forturi din Sultanatul Oman. Construit de tribul Banu Hebhan în secolul al XIII-lea, fortul era în pericol de a fi distrus, dar acum este complet restaurat, folosindu-se materialele și tehnicile originale.
👉 Orașul vechi din Nizwa. Un muzeu viu. Ne-am îndrăgostit de acest loc autentic, plin de istorie. Nu am întâlnit atmosfera de aici nicăieri pe traseul nostru. Am stat lângă Fortul Nizwa, într-o clădire veche de 450 de ani. Ne-am plimbat pe străduțele înguste, prin celebrul shuk, am mâncat cu localnicii și le-am admirat tradițiile. Fortul Nizwa este clădirea care domină orașul vechi, un exemplu excepțional de arhitectură antică omană.
👉 La 15 minute de Nizwa am găsit ruinele vechiului Tanuf, un sat care a fost bombardat de britanici în anii 1950, în timpul războiului Jebel Akhdar. Merită o scurtă oprire.
