Thanks for watching! Easiest way to support the channel is by giving it a thumbs up! Also... I did not initially recognize the resemblance to the Fellow Opus until after filming... We'll chat about that in the review. Let me know your thoughts on the 01!

The design for the 01 was essentially finalised before the release or announcement of the opus. Sam showed the design history on EAF to prove this.

I can’t wait for the full review! I've had a Lagom P64 from the current series for about a year and I'm very familiar with it and option o. I've pretty much gone through all of the 64mm burrs and am now in Option O's beta tester program, where I test their latest unreleased discs, everything is very, very exciting and great. But the moment you showed how easy it is to change the zero point, that's when I knew I needed the lagom 01 :D as soon as I had to change the zero point (4 small hex screws under the adjusting mechanism... annoying!)
Unfortunately, customs and taxes are always very annoying here in Germany, they often add up to 500 euros or on top of the already big price, so you have to think about it carefully.
What I would really like would be to have the Lagom 01 as an espresso only with blind burrs and then my P64 with my SSP Lab Sweet for filter only... total overkill but I'm a fan of 2 grinders for 2 purposes and don't like mixing them up. .. well let's see what 2024 brings with it :D
Thanks Kyle, great video as always, now test the hell out of the lagom 01 and the grinding discs, I have to have reasons to support the industry financially :D

I hope you will make a video in the future on the topic, "Do larger burrs positively affect the taste of the coffee?" I can't remember the name of the Vlogger who said the following, but roughly he said the larger burrs primary job is to grind faster in the professional environment. At some point, he stated, larger burr size cease to offer a significant taste difference but does make a difference in coffee shop coffee prep timings.

The P100 has a convoluted in my mind way to adjust to zero. Not to mention I never feel confident after cleaning the burrs. Which I have to say is amazing because after many many months still is close to zero retention. I say all of this because it appears my burrs have scratch lines. You touched on the easier setting to zero. I would like to know they truly improved setting the burrs to zero.

Never had that issue with the p64 but I do have silicone socks on the forks from the Turin/DF series grinders on ! I found some portafilters fit tighter than others due to different thicknesses of the ears in them. The ECM was thin and tilts a bit more still I don't think it ever dropped. Maybe I wouldn't trust it hands free. The Weber unfilter was basically a perfect and tight fit.

I'd love to know if you think this could be a true all-purpose grinder (with the right burrs). For context, I do 60/40% espresso:filter and I currently have an atom (lucca) 75 for espresso, and an acaia Orbit with ssp MP for filter, or modern spro shots. On the DE1. I feel like with all these machines on my bar I can't complain, maybe it's just upgraditis... But in my head I imagine the L01, with the right burr set, could just be the ONE grinder I use for everything. And I'd just sell everything else and have a minimal approach. I know a 'big burr' grinder doesn't always guarantee better coffee (even though everything I've tasted from them have been my favorite shots), but I think for me the idea of one end game grinder, to simplify the amount of gear on the bar, is mainly what I'm interested in. Maybe even picking up a used P100 in a few months if they drop in price could be an option. Anyway, would love your thoughts on that if you could only choose ONE burr with this grinder for everything, if you think that's realistic haha.

    • @eric2005
      @eric2005 11 месяцев назад +1

Buy the atom pro burrset for your lucca. You won’t be disappointed.
You’ll probably find that will be as close to all in one as you can get until you buy an 01. You can sell your orbit. For $250, the burrs are worth a try.

@@eric2005 I actually went down a little research rabbit hole with this a year back! At the time it seems like the burrs were harder to find and more expensive, and the only other caveat was users saying that you really can’t do espresso. I’m on the DE1, so I’m sure if I am grinding almost at chirp, there’s got to be some profile that will give a good shot. Lol even if it doesn’t hit 8-9 bars. I have three questions about the power buttons. 1) Do I understand correctly that if you press the bottom button the grinder will run continuously until you press it a second time? 2) And, if you press the top button, the grinder will run until it senses the beans have been ground, then momentarily speed up to clear the burrs, then shut off (meaning a single button press is all you need to turn on the grinder, grind a single dose, and have it automatically turn off again)? And 3), If you press the top button to get the grinder running before adding beans, will the sensor detect no beans (because you haven't dumped them in yet), speed up the motor, and then shut off? Or will it give you bit to add the beans?

Zerno Z1 is 64mm. Workflow and features on the p100 is already better. It makes little sense to compare with this or use it as a benchmark rather than the p100 or Weber EG1 or Kafatek Max grinders that's what this is competing with. However it is always fun to put different classes or types of gear against each other to see what the differences are and help you decide what's best for you or what's the best value if it is worth spending that much more money or not.

The biggest burr grinder I heard of so far was Molar Z with 120mm.

@@valentinkuznecov6256 yeah Wug2 seems good. I didn't have to slow feed my Weber Key it never really stalled on me just hesitated at like 30 rpm if grinding very fine for espresso with a light roast. But some people did have issues with that. Slow feeding is generally what I do for consistency on all my grinders wherever possible. But the slow bean feeder add on I think is good. I have it on the HG2 I have now and it may have made hand grinding for espresso slightly easier definitely helped with preventing popcorning and may have increased flavor clarity. It should come free with all those grinders but nope they don't do that. With slower feeding you probably get more clarity and less body and even more of a flat burrr like profile with the Webers though.

$2650 yikes. What insane person would get this for residential purposes. Im laughing at how ppl are buying these toys for their hobbies just to see if they can chase the "perfect cup". One thing great about being humble is not letting advertisers, shiny objects, and new gadgetry impact your wallet. Love making espressos and occasional pour overs with equipment 1/10th the price. My money goes where it matters most- local and reputable online roasters. Fresh coffee and knowledge far outways what a $3000 item can do. I enjoyed my 2 coffee drinks today and continue to laugh at the new toys being put out. Hey it is america. The land of wasteful spending and debt. The land of materialistic life just to impress our neighbors. Tomorrow is another beautiful caffeinated day.

What an awful design. I wonder why they went from the assymetrical cilinders (quite ugly as well, but at least original) to this massive chunk of metal. Even if intended for industrial (and I doubt it cause which coffee would single dose?), they should have left some money for the design guy

Appreciate you sage content as always. I put my order in for the P64 which has enchanted me since I first saw it some time ago. I was informed that they were ahead of schedule and it would be sent 6 weeks early. I was thrilled until I saw this 01 today! I just didn't care for the P100 for a variety of reasons so had no interest. But this 01 seems to really be a step forward and incorporates the freshest design features, from antistatic to a refined knock button. I also am not a fan of forks esthetically but also for the accident potential, vibrating out and damaging the base. I love the substitute design in the 01. I wrote Option O to hold shipment a bit for me to decide if I want to shift into this 01. Its a personal decision, of course, but for the $800 difference which is not a small amount for my budget, does this seem like the end all grinder to go with in your opinion, without testing the final production model? I'm not an upgrade neurotic, but I like to buy the best I can afford at the get go and then use it for years no matter what new shiny comes along, with no regrets. Your esteemed thoughts of 01 over P64 would be greatly valued. Thanks!

Kyle - I got my Lagom -01 a week or two ago and I love it. For me it is a huge upgrade from a 15 yo Mini Mazer and the difference in terms of work flow, noise and taste is huge! Considering I only change grinders every 15 yrs I thought I would go all in.
    I love it a lot!
I still would love to see your thoughts...I hope a review is coming.

I love the idea of this grinder, but the size of the dosing cup relative to the grinder itself is entirely out of proportion. It looks completely out of balance. I also hope they do something about the motor. The sound you're experiencing with this unit sounds like a $50 blade grinder.

It's surprising the P100 comes stock with a super high quality "SSP HU burr" but the newer and better Lagom 01 isnt using SSP this time.
Would you say it is a better grinder with a lesser quality burr set if we forget the size difference? Not a lot of manufacturers must be doing 102mm and even less without screws so the choice must be very limited.
I'm looking to upgrade my "Ceado E37SD" which uses 83mm, so I was looking into the 01 as i could get it in Canada at wholesale pricing even though it still cost an arm 😅
