      @MiketheHighLord 2 года назад +2

@@fendigucci6307 I completely agree that the wattage is important, but you may be overlooking the tensor cores. The 1660ti is a great card and it can even compete with the 3060 60W or 80W in FPS in some games, in particular at medium or lower settings... BUT... from what I have seen most of these FPS are BEFORE DLSS abilities are activated. If you are on board with the DLSS, I believe you will get a substantial boost in FPS from even the 60W variant of the 3060. Also, if you are into anything besides gaming, the 3060 also seems to outperform in many categories. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I have gathered so far...

Hey, this video just got recommended to me - thought I add up a bit to it.
I have the 144hz version, but i5-10500H and RTX 3060 + 16GB of ram was the standard in my G5-KC model.
Got it around year ago for less than a $1000? At least if currency conversion says so.
The RTX 3060 in tests grabs only 80 to 90W tops - but in games it goes as high as 135W while throttling the CPU down to 45W. (Thus the 180W power brick, hah).
The color accuracy is actually insanely good on those laptops, I think it's around 90-ish% sRGB and 80-85% Adobe RGB, which in this price point is amazing.
I am kind of disappointed that the RTX 3060 is not directly connected to the built in screen AND on top of that, there is no mux switch to have it be.
After few months the temps are absolutely horrid. Cooling pad is a must, and thorough cleaning of the fans is required if you live in even slightly dusty space. I also did in fact change the thermal paste on both GPU and CPU - so it helped a bit.
CPU is locked in my case - BIOS locked - so I did use InsydeTool to mod the bios on the go to unlock undervolting the CPU - worked WONDERS - at least 10-15 degrees Celsius in my case, with almost -100mv on Core and Cache.
But it does void warranty so be advised.

I am looking to buy a new laptop which I can use for gaming as well as general everyday use, but am looking for something that looks and feels like a "normal" laptop and isn't too fancy. I have a huge preference for any with the left and right keys separate from the trackpad because I am not always using a mouse. I noticed the updated review about the poor battery and overheating so I am reconsidering this one, but wonder if you know of any other laptops with separate left / right buttons which would be good for games? Thanks in advance :)

i cant say any gaming laptop instantly comes to mind, that has separate left and right click buttons, alot of them get rolled in to being a single large track pad.
most the ones from Asus, tend to have a single large trackpad, msi is similar with most of their machines,
i think Lenovo and MSI tend to have the most "normal looking" laptops out there without going to much in to gamer / RGB land

So I watched this video and some others and bought this laptop a couple of months back.
    Here's my review:
Firstly, the screen sucks. Like it's not terrible, and you could do with it, but the purples are worse than a cheap 60hz monitor and the blacks are pretty bad too. You'll notice that glares in video games which are usually purplish are quite faded. If you want to enjoy the games that this pc can run at ultra, I recommend a new monitor with it.
Second, the battery is actually better than I expected. You can go into power saving mode and whatnot and get like 2 hours + out of it on a full charge, which for me is alright cuz I can find an outlet in 2 hours. You can get more if you power limit it, but that's a tedious task. It does take a long time to charge, though, so it's best you keep the charger with you at all times. BTW, it does work without the battery perfectly, so you can just remove it and play games to avoid damaging it. (Remove the battery at 50%)
If you're going to use the actual keyboard, then It's going to get a little warm on your hands. Speaking of warmth, let's talk thermals.
When you max out this laptop, it gets 90 degrees + hot and then begins thermal throttling. There is a way to just undervolt your CPU somewhere on RUclips, to cap the heat your pc will produce, but then you will lose a 5-10 frames because of this. (I still highly recommend it because it will help your laptop life)
When hotter than 75 degrees, It's going to become REALLY loud with the fans. To be fair, my PS4 is like a jet engine and this is more like a sports car, but then you do not want to be using the internal speakers to play games (which are garbage anyway) and quieter than the fans at max speed. Use headphones for the best experience
It's very easy to scratch the back of the screen, so I also highly recommend a d-brand type skin or something.
I think that about covers the outside. On the inside, you get a preloaded Windows 10 with a bunch of extra software that doesn't really affect your performance, but you can reinstall windows if you want. Keep in mind that you may lose your free month of Xbox game pass and Microsoft 365 which is usually bundled with this laptop if you get it with Windows 10 Education like I did. Win 10 edu does not let you mess with some stuff if you like fine-tuning your laptop, so you might want to -ahem- legally upgrade it to win 10 pro education (best windows imo, win 11 is garbage rn)
While this review does sound quite critical, I just want to make it clear that I do not regret my decision even one bit and love this laptop to bits. I am a little worried about it though because when I unplug my charger, my PC suddenly thinks it has 0% battery and goes to sleep. Not a real problem because I just wake it up and all my work is right where I left it, but slightly concerning nonetheless. Other than that, this computer does suddenly freeze for one second once every hour for some reason, and I do not know if that is a hardware or software issue.
The best thing is the worst thing about this laptop. It's a really good deal for a gaming pc, but a terrible one if it dies and becomes a paper weight.
    TLDR:
The screen is pretty bad, the battery is ok-ish, the thermals are awful, and you will need to undervolt and it does have some weird glitches here and there, but it's everything I expected and wanted it to be. No regrets

Katana is an extra 100 but does have better specs besides the GPU both have the 3060 but katana is only 85W the G5 is 105W. The katana I’m looking at is also the i7-11800H and has octa core instead of hexa core which the G5 has any advice before choosing?

I just got one of these on Black Friday and I guess I'm glad I only paid about $500 for it. It's probably not the best out there, but even for a sub $1000 gaming laptop, you do get a lot for not a ton of money. My biggest complaint is the touchpad and buttons are not the best. If you are going to use a point device, get an external mouse or trackpad. I mainly got mine to do photo editing so we'll see how that goes, but the 3050 Ti is a decent video card and the 6-core processor will help. I of course added a few extra storage drives and a ton of memory (16GB so it has 24GB now -- might replace the other 8GB stick at some point if I feel I need more memory). But overall, even if you paid full price for it (which I think was $900 or something like that it's not horrible, but it is lower towards the bottom of the pole in terms of overall quailty. I guess time will tell with this notebook. The GPU fan can get quite noisy though if you're doing a lot of gaming or running it hard. IMO the build is on the cheaper side, but again, I only paid $500 for it so I guess I can't be too picky (mine will get used more like a desktop with an external monitor and keyboard/mouse, probably 80% of the time anyway).

There is no such thing as Max P and Max Q on the 30x series. It's actually a major aggravation among computer enthusiasts... manufacturers are not required to disclose their specs in advertising. Makes it very difficult to compare available options and make good buying decisions. know what you are buying. Ultimately, when looking at laptops with 306 for $1200 CAD, I would have to assume it is a 60W or 80W model. If I was paying a higher price, I would need to confirm that it's a higher wattage model before pulling the trigger on the purchase.

I bought a brand new Gigabyte g5. Not too long after, I realized something is wrong with the keyboard. Whenever I hold the left or right arrows to scroll along a text on word/google docs, weird stuff happens. The keyboard randomly inputs "6" and that symbol---> `. Or it randomly pops up the search bar. Or it randomly kicks into select and highlights everything I scroll over. I created an RMA, sent the laptop back to the manufacturer, and they allegedly swapped out my keyboard for a new one. Not only did it return with the problem still there, but it actually got worse. AND the laptop gave me multiple bluescreen errors, which forced me to reset it and update the bios before it was functional. Has anyone else run into keyboard problems with gigabyte laptops?
