Great video! I spent a chunk of time in Slovenia in 2022 and it's the most beautiful country I've ever been to. Further, I have a physical disability. Really appreciate your video and overview of accessible features etc. Well done!
I did htat route both ways by steam ,! Vila opicino to Trieste which you can also do by tram is an interesting journey on the old route to Trieste dockyards. It literally winds its way down a very steep gradient.
A couple of months ago i watched a train review going to Ljubljana...open carriage style 😄....except it was on a fright train.......great views of the country side.....and no charge for the ride....good dialog also...you just have to be careful and quick when boarding.....thanks for your review...and just subbed......
Reminds me so much of some of my journeys between Bruxelles Midi and Köln My favourite was when the first DB train was cancelled and the second train left from Bruxelles Nord so we had t make the way to that station. Then when two trains loads were crammed on one train our train stopped at Düren and on an island platform we had to do a complete train swap the other train was full of passengers. That was a fun journey!
So....let me explain the situation. The two-carriage Croatian/Slovenian set you got from Ljubljana to Spielfeld is the usual consist of D 158 "Croatia" Zagreb - Graz. This train and EC 151 from Vienna usually pass each other in Leibnitz, between Spielfeld and Graz. So there must have been some problems on that line in the morning, maybe even bus substitution. The passengers of EC 151 were then transferred to "Croatia" set in Spielfeld to continue their way to Ljubljana. As no Croatian or Slovenian carriage is allowed to enter Italy, and as there was only one set of (IT-eligible) ÖBB cars in Trieste, and as the EC 134 and 135 normally pass each other somewhere between Ljubljana and Postojna. it was necessary to operate the Ljubljana - Sežana and Sežana - Ljubljana legs of both trains with SŽ EMUs. At least it wasn't "Zug fällt aus" as in Germany...
The train you took from sežana to Ljubljana is actualy a siemens desiro that was build in 2000/2002 but they modernized them and they still look modern from the outside and fun fact they were most modern passenger trains in Slovenia until they bought the new stadlers if im not mistaken.
The new stadler trains are really modern. Actually I think this makes the entire fleet pretty modern in general. I really have the impression Slovenia is catching up really fast in the railways by improving that much.
@@Trainvikingyes we have improved but the bigest problem is that almost all of our railways were built more then 100 years ago and they have a much more windy route than highways so they would need do make railways straight and increase the speed so that they can compete against cars.
Carriages are great, you can combine like crazy and therefore make more direct connections, the longest train ride in the world is just one carriage (if I'm right at least, Moscow to north Korea, we can't take it though).
Agree, I know it's a rare situation however I also feel like I need to share it with you guys if things are not going that smooth. Actually I didn't realized how annoying it was until I saw the actual train at the last part of the journey. Especially the dining car would have made the entire travel experience so much nicer.
I assume the new Slovenian trains are probably not (yet) commissioned to operate in Italy, which is why they have to stop at the Italian border. And for the rest of the trip they used the OeBB carriages they had left. Or maybe there was a problem with the trainset and they had to come up with a backup solution?
Travelling to trieste in july. New to public transportation.. Would love to visit slovenia and croatia while i am there. Is Bus going to be my best option?? Thanks for any support and advixe
Umm as a slovenian this was a very rare thing. Ussaly it only happens as you explainend-3 austria wagons all the way with 3 slovenian ones attached in ljubljana with loco changes before and after slovenia becuse they cant agree on a loco
I did some research and you're totally right, for 99% of the things I'm saying on RUclips I do my research. For this I've heard someone saying once there used to be a connection, so I just literally took that over without research it. Thanks for letting us know.
Haha the surcharge was for the section where there's also first class available 😄. Nevertheless, I think railway companies should provide the service they mention as much as possible, from a principal point of view I should make a claim for this (haven't don it yet).
?100 years ago, I.e. 1923 there was no Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the border between Italy and the then Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was farther to the East than today.
I'm pretty sure, however it was all on time and that's most important. I love to share stories about how smooth it is to travel by train however most importantly, I want to share real experiences.

I agree, Slovenia is magnificent. I truly believe travelling should be easy to everybody, so I try to explain this also as good as possible.
As a bike and train enthousiast, I like this train a lot😁🇳🇱🚴♀️🚴♀️👍
Great to hear that.

REAL trains with locos and carriages going long distance ! :-) Old School !

Morgen zelf met de intercitty notte van Palermo naar Milaan en de volgende nacht met de nightjet van Basel naar Utrecht.
Leuk, goede reis gewenst.
This is just unbelievable that you have to change train so many times.

If you go to Koper the bus is the best option. For many other places in Slovenia the train is the best option.
Umm as a slovenian this was a very rare thing. Ussaly it only happens as you explainend-3 austria wagons all the way with 3 slovenian ones attached in ljubljana with loco changes before and after slovenia becuse they cant agree on a loco
I guess I was just unlucky for this. However I also want to share the true story I had during this ride.
This is no hate, but there hasn’t been any rail connection between Koper and Trieste for more than a century.

@@Trainviking well, there is a connection, just not a direct one :-)
@justsanii3480 less than 100 years actually. The old narrow gauge line from Triest to Poreč was closed in 1935.

That's a comedy of errors. And you did not even told us about the ridiculously long travel time. No wonder they were keeping the schedule.
The author talks too much and when not, annoying music.
Thanks for the wonderful feedback.
If you have to change train from trieste to lubliana I think is a terrible service! Was better 100 years ago during the austrohungarian imperium
I get your point, however this is very exceptional.
Also we where bang on time, what's also worth a lot to me.
Trenitalia it's testing a direct route to Lubliana with some frecciarossa 1000
