Have you guys seen Gotti? Did you think it was as bad as its reputation, or did you find some good things about it?
The movie itself, no. But Fricking loved this episode. I honestly laughed out loud watching this.
No mention of Man-Animals. 0/10
It's fun to watch in the same way it's entertaining to watch a building burn down.
Sure, you know it's inherently bad - but you enjoy it nonetheless.
I didnt find it bad but boring. I could tell Travolta wanted it to be his magnum opus, but well it didnt work out that way...
one thing is for sure, Gotti was quite naughty.
Feels like a 10 episodes (one hour each) miniseries that got condensed into a 2 hour movie.
Except that the scenes were chosen at random.
They tried to make The Assassination of Gianni Versace, but ended up making this instead. Sad, really.
That's... Exactly how it feels! I was wondering what was wrong about the movie aside from it's color palette, music, characters, basically everything! (Aside from the acting)
The fact that neither Ray Liotta or Joe Pesci was like yeah sign me on for the 10000th Mob era film says all I need to know about this film

Danielle Wagner Except Joe Pesci was signed on to be in the movie, and he gained like 40 pounds for the role, but all of his scenes were cut. He ended up suing & settling out of court
Mang Dingle as he should have.
Pesci didn't want to be in Scorsese's Irishman either, it took years to convince him otherwise, so that in and if itself doesn't say much.
Trevor Reznik Except pets she was signed on and he agreed to be in Gotti, even put on a lot of weight, but when the time came to shoot his scenes, scripted already been rewritten and rearranged as to not include his character, he sued the fuck out of them
Can we talk about how John Travolta has fairly decent aging makeup for the different stages of John Gotti's life, but the actor for John Gotti Jr. basically looks like he's in his early 20s throughout the entire movie?
I guess they couldn’t afford an older actor for the later stages of Junior’s life.
It's so weird. There were clearly talented people working on this movie, and it still turned out to be such a train wreck.
What's crazy is he doesn't even have the same hairstyle as the actually Gotti Jr. footage they're splicing in at the end. Like, no effort at all.

i'd probably be quite uncomfortable in my own skin as well if i genuinely believed i was an ancient alien ghost flown to teegeeack on an airplane through space, tossed into a volcano, vacuumed by the space emperor who locked me up in a cinema showing "real horror show" propaganda films until i believed in jesus and million years later i had to pay thousands of dollars to an organisation founded by a science fiction novelist in order to remember my life as a clam.

This movie wants to really be like a Scorsese movie, but it doesn't have the style, class, and the soundtrack for it too. I doubt Scorsese would hire Pitbull of all people to make a soundtrack to one of his films.
Because when I think "Scorsese", I think "Shark Tale".

I genuinely think that Travolta and Scorsese is the only team that could have made this into a decent film. John Gotti's story is complex as it is, yet this film actually complicates it even more and makes it harder to follow.
Also modern Scorsese would get pitbull. He no longer chooses his own music, since the departed he's had a "music assistant" who chooses all the music (like Dropkick Murphys' Shipping out to Boston). If he had an assistant who liked pitbull then he 100% would have pitbull do the whole soundtrack.
@ThatOneAsianBroChick since the Departed onwards, Scorcese picks one or two songs that are important and then gives the rest to his music assistant. He didn't even hear the dropkick Murphys song all over the departed until the premiere by his own admission.
That guy put pitbull on, they'd have god damn pitbull. Martin doesn't even listen. He even confirmed this in his vanity fair interview a few months ago.
There's a neuropsychological test in which the patient is given a number of pictures and is asked to assemble a coherent narrative. Seems the editor failed this test.

I don't think you can fail this test but I definitely see what you mean. This movie was patched and sewn together in such an illogical pattern that I think they should have keep it the way it was and released it as a mini series...

I got it! This is a movie with ADHD. Travolta was too proud to give the film its Adderall and Ritalin.
Scientologists make it clear that the church is against any type of psychiatric drugs, so that actually makes sense for Travolta lol
That's the description I've been searching for. Scenes individually are competent, but as a whole it fails at providing a message or even basic narrative.
I love the fact that with Brad Jones seeing pretty much EVERY movie that comes out, he always has a more nuanced view on movies others would sign off as bad.
With Two of a Kind, Moment by Moment, and now this, John Travolta really has become the mascot of The Cinema Snob Show, hasn't he?

Yikes! I remember that movie when I worked at Blockbuster. It wasn’t even worth using a free rental to watch it.
Only thing I know about the movie was that it took so long to come out it ended up getting two game adaptations.
I read that as "Ballsacks vs. Sewer". That's what I get for scrolling so fast.
I remember watching that on HBO in the mid-2000s. It was really boring.
Seeing old Gotti wearing glasses with his jumpsuit I was half expecting him to say.

But really, how did THE ROOM get better Rotten Tomatoes reviews than this? A masterpiece? No, but the performances were good. It's just the story jumps around like a frog with a bus crammed up his butt, sideways.

I didn't see this movie when it came out, for obvious reasons, so seeing all of these clips for the first time. It was tough to watch the scenes with John Travolta and Kelly Preston acting as characters showing their grief over their son's death, considering they went through that very thing in their own lives. Makes you wish the movie was better!

I went to school with a kid from THE Gambino family. He said his more recent relatives are trying to get out of the mafia life, but some of the older relatives, especially is one grandpa are still apart of it. He was cool, nice, and funny kid. I remember we had a sub teacher, who when saw his name, couldn’t help but ask he was from THAT Gambino family.
If he was really in the Gambino Family I doubt he’d be in school.

It's really a shame that John Travolta chooses such lousy movies to be in. He's a good actor and he throws himself into role. So sometimes you get John in Pulp Fiction. And sometimes you get John in Battlefield Earth.
With a little consistency he could have stayed on the A-list after Quentin Tarantino resurrected his career.

It was only cancer after all, not like he was sleeping with another guys wife. The music was also more dramatic when he said he'd park a bus up the guy's ass sideways, than during the cancer reveal.

Yeah man, I love two things, Johnny Travolta and John and Kelly's screen loves it really is good because well it isn't acting, as long as they keep the character. Travolta is amazing in the emotional scenes, he really uses a good range in this, or well an appropriate range for the character, I think.
I don't know if you ever see these new comments on old videos but I would LOVE if you did the Mary Shelly's Frankenstein with Deniro, I loved his portrayal of the monster in that.

This whole movie is like the kind of film that a teenager who read Gotti’s Wikipedia page and watched too many Scorsese movies would make, if it was then cut down by forty minutes and the remnants were just spliced into a random order.

Recommended reading: currently reading a book titled "Hollywood Godfather" written by Gianni Russo. It's about his life in Hollywood, the time he spent with Marolon Brando on Godfather, Sinatra being the Godfather to his own son and, of course, working for John Gotti. Believe me when I say it's not a book you can put down. I spend my entire lunch hour reading it.

It’s a shame: there’s a good film hidden here, it’s just absolutely eviscerated by the clumsy editing, terrible soundtrack, and the fact that it feels more like a wiki read than an actual character study (though this could be attributed to the Gotti family’s involvement for the latter part)
I’m glad he ended it with that clip of Travolta saying you’ll never meet another person like me in 5000 years. It didn’t make any sense. It’s just stuck in there to end the movie.

You need to do a Lloyd episode where he has to take care of a cartoon NY mobster, possibly a cartoon dog, who turns out to be an actor playing a Scientologist.
The editing and the soundtrack really brings the movie down.
