We saw them in concert years ago and they put on an awesome show, just back to back songs. By the end of the concert Charlie’s bow was shredded, he had so many strings hanging off of it. The best part was they sounded just like their studio albums even when they were doing a live performance and that’s hard to do especially for bands nowadays. I grew up in the 70’s-80’s so I got to hear plenty of bands live that sounded just as good as their studio versions so it wasn’t as rare back in the day like it is today. But Charlie was older when we saw them perform and they sounded great still! You just can’t beat talent! ❤
Me too! He may not play the fiddle that great but that devil has the beat! Funny thing is that in the south they used to say people who play the fiddle, especially if they're really good at it, had the "Devil's Elbow" and here we find out it should have been "Johnny's Elbow" all along. lol.
I just saw him in concert (for the first time) in Oklahoma last month (December 2019) with Travis Tritt. Charlie was so dope and can still shred on his fiddle. He expressed his love for the USA, it’s citizens, and especially its men and women in uniform protecting our freedom and there was not one dry eye in the theater. He also saw a young boy in the front row who was dancing to the music and Charlie walked right over to him in the middle of the song and gave his bow to the boy. Pretty awesome souvenir and memory for that youngster.
I went last year and saw Charlie Daniels in concert. He was 83 and could still fiddle and sing! Sadly, he passed away a week ago so I'm grateful I was indeed able to see him within the last year.
"Orange blossom special" is one of his songs that also features his fiddle. Bow is left in strings at end. Long haired country boy,. And simple man are good songs.
In 1979 this song reached #14 on Australia's "Kent Music Report", #1 on the US Billboard: Country, #3 on the US Billboard: Hot 100 (Pop), #30 on the US Billboard: Adult Contemporary. It was a success all around the world. I think the song's message kicks ass and people all over the world like that kind of message. Plus... Killer band, and Charlie is one of the best Country Fiddle players on the planet. Great Video Bro!
he is 83 and still performing, married since 1963 to a beautiful woman and has one son. He did have a slight stroke which set him back a bit but he's still performing and sounding awesome
Charlie Daniel is awesome. He and his band are still out there playing...his hair and beard are white. Cracks me up when a “Santa” type plays The Devil Went Down to Georgia! Haha.
I saw Charlie Daniels in the early 80's. It was outside in August and the heat index was over 100 degrees. He was dressed exactly like that, leather vest and all.
More Charlie Daniels please"orange blossom special","the souths gonna do it again","uneasy rider","simple man","long haired country boy","legend of Woolley swamp","still in Saigon","in America" to name a few more classics by the CDB.☮️
I think this one was from 1978 or so. I could be wrong and I have no idea what theater or arena this took place in. Loved this reaction! I hope you and your family and friends are doing well.
THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA is a song written and performed by the Charlie Daniels Band and released on their 1979 album Million Mile Reflections. The song is written in the key of D minor. Vassar Clements originally wrote the basic melody an octave lower, in a tune called LONESOME FIDDLE BLUES released on Clements' self-titled 1975 album on which Charlie Daniels played guitar. The Charlie Daniels Band moved it up an octave and put words to it. The song's verses are closer to being spoken rather than sung (i.e., recitation), and tell the story of a young man named Johnny, in a variant on the classic deal with the Devil. The performances of the Devil and Johnny are played as instrumental bridges. The song is an uptempo bluegrass song about the Devil's failure to gain a young man's soul through a fiddle-playing contest. The song begins as a disappointed Devil arrives in Georgia, apparently "way behind" on stealing souls, when he comes upon a young man named Johnny who is playing a fiddle, and quite well. Out of desperation, the Devil, who claims to also be a fiddle player, wagers a fiddle of gold against Johnny's soul to see who is the better fiddler. Although Johnny believes taking the Devil's bet might be a sin, he fearlessly accepts, confidently boasting that "I'm the best that's ever been." The Devil plays first, backed by a band of demon musicians. When finished, Johnny compliments him and takes his own turn, in which he references, but does not perform, four old-time songs: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN, the name of an early 19th Century fiddle tune, and also the name of Daniels' 1974 album, The House of the Rising Sun, FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN is a traditional American southern folk song, (the latter two were lyrical references): "Chicken in the bread pan pickin' out dough", which was famously used in Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys' song IDA RED, and "Granny does/will your dog bite, no child no", but the lyrics alone pre-date this song. Realizing he has been defeated, the devil lays his golden fiddle at Johnny's feet. Johnny then invites the devil to "c'mon back if y'ever wanna try again" before repeating his claim to be "the best that's ever been". Johnny's final boast, from the album version of the song, goes, "I done told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been". But to accommodate radio airplay for Country and Top 40 formats, Daniels changed the lyric for the single release to, "'Cause I told you once, you son of a gun", though AOR stations continued to use the unaltered version.
Grew up listening to Charlie Daniels love their music. With this type you should try Kenny Rodgers the Gambler or Coward of the County. Story telling Country at its best.
You're on a roll today my friend, the Charlie Daniels band is great, the energy that radiates from the stage is infectious, and the fiddle makes them stand out. This is most likely their biggest hit, and i'd say, for all the right reasons, it tells a great story, the musicianship is top-notch and ofc, the devil gets his arse kicked! Orange Blossom is another song you might want to check out, only one thing to be careful about, that fiddle... it'll take your soul!! hehehe Another great reaction, so ty for the upload and keep 'em coming my friend :D I'll post a few suggestions for you lateron, some "Neder Blues" (Dutch Blues) and a few other bands i think you might like :)
South Gonna Do It Again, Legend of Wooley Swamp a lot of his songs are the fiddle. I live in Ga, so if you ever visit, give me a call. Both The Devil Comes Down To Ga and Legend Of Wooley Swamp are old mt. stories he recreated and set to tune, mighty good if you ask me. As you explore Southern Rock, Allman Brothers, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Molly Hatchet, 38 Special (youngest brother of RVZ of Lynyrd Skynyrd,), Marshall Tucker Band, Outlaws, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and Wet Willie are other great groups, and I could go on.. CCR and Doobie Brothers are also put in that genera and modern bands include Tedeschi Trucks Band (Derek Truck was a guitarist for the Allman Brothers) and Blackberry Smoke.
Great job. I also recommend "In America" live. It was recorded during the early 80s era of the Iran hostage crisis when the US was in a down mode. It's pure American hubris but great music and lyrics nonetheless. Love your channel!
Nice reaction. Another of his songs you might like is - Drinking My Baby Goodbye , Uneasy Rider. Alabama has a good fiddle song called - If your gonna play in Texas ( Ned a Fiddle in the Band ). Mark O'Connor has a follow up to this song - it's called : Devil Comes Back To Georgia.
His song Texas is a good one. Charlie Daniels plays fiddle on the song, This Ole Cowboy by the Marshall Tucker Band. I highly recommend This Ole Cowboy.
I highly recommend that you listen to Home Free’s version of this song. They teamed up with Charlie Daniels, who played his fiddle in the song but that is the only musical instrument in their version. Everything else is of course done by the talented guys of Home Free.
yeah definitely orange blossom. He gives everyone a little solo section and is soooo funny, but yet still so good. Also..., notice him counting off. Betting they weren't using click track, and if that's the case, daaaaaayum.
I always stop and watch "devil goes to Georgia" video. ^;..;^ PS> Prayers and good thoughts to all of Australia. get those fires! Protect those poor critters !!
In case you didn't know, Home Free did a cover of this (with Charlie Daniels & Taylor Davis on Fiddle) It was on their Country Evolution Album. Speaking of Home Free, they should be in Australia in a couple weeks. Are you going to get a chance to see them?
I saw your thumbnail and thought "there's no way this man hasn't heard The Devil Went Down to Georgia" Then I heard your accent and realized you weren't from The South, USA and it all made sense😂😂
I think you'd really like Still in Saigon. More of a guitar song but it is Charlie's tribute to Vietnam Vets. For a fiddle song I'd suggest Talk to Me Fiddle or Get Me Back to Dixie. Thanks for doing CDB. Keep up the good work.
Good job. Request Born to Boogie (live) and All my rowdy Friends are coming over Tonight (video) by Hank Williams Jr. Also Brooks and Dunn, Believe and Neon Moon
CD has been an American treasure for many a decade. Check out uneasy rider, long haired country boy, south’s gonna do it again and the legend of wooley swamp.
My first concert was The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band and what a great show! More songs by CDB - 'The South's Gonna Do It Again' ruclips.net/video/tEKMED-_2QQ/видео.html 'I'm Drinking My Baby Goodbye' ruclips.net/video/tdRT20ltcwY/видео.html 'Dale Earnhardt (Nascar) Tribute - The Intimidator' ruclips.net/video/xMgfgMl6-fw/видео.html
As much as you like the story telling of country music, you have got to do “The Legend of the Wooley Swamp” by The Charlie Daniels Band. A great song, and story.
During this time, this is when the Outlaw rebels hit with the hard driving electric guitars and long hair. Hard to believe today looking at it but Nashville did not like it. Even Artists like Ronnie Milsap (Stranger in my House) had to fight the industry. Check him out Pat!
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO DID A REVIEW AND DIDN’T STOP THE SONG OR TALK OVER THE MUSIC WHILE IT WAS BEING PERFORMED!!!! That’s how you review a song!!!!! You shut the fuck up and listen until the end then you talk!!!

Long Haired Country Boy is laid back..love it.
I always loved how funky the guitar gets on the devil’s song!
The devil won the duel, easily.
The devil and his band of demons is definitely my favorite part of the song. It's pretty dang groovy.
That's the point, they're supposed to be criticizing disco with this, I thought it was pretty obvious
Me too! He may not play the fiddle that great but that devil has the beat! Funny thing is that in the south they used to say people who play the fiddle, especially if they're really good at it, had the "Devil's Elbow" and here we find out it should have been "Johnny's Elbow" all along. lol.
Most definitely!!!!! I agree!

Glad I got to see him open for Alabama at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta back in April 2019, that was a show to see.
That was Charlie! His Orange Blossom Special is amazing too! RIP CHARLIE! Thank you for the respect shown and your reaction!
RIP, thank God we can come back and re-watch Charlie Daniels!
Rest in peace, Charlie!! Today is a sad day for all of true ole country fans!!
Here in Georgia our kindergarteners can not move on to 1st grade until they know by heart every lyric in this song.
Proud to watch this tonight. Proud to see "The Best That's Ever Been" on the thumbnail. R.I.P. Charlie Daniels 7/6/20

Charlie Daniels will be missed dearly by so many people
Legend of Wooley Swamp, don't ever go there at night!
In 1979 this song reached #14 on Australia's "Kent Music Report", #1 on the US Billboard: Country, #3 on the US Billboard: Hot 100 (Pop), #30 on the US Billboard: Adult Contemporary. I saw Charlie Daniels in the early 80's. It was outside in August and the heat index was over 100 degrees. He was dressed exactly like that, leather vest and all.
The studio version of
"Uneasy rider" and
"The South's gonna do it again"
Rest in peace... take that golden fiddle with you....
That video was recorded at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs NY, my husband thinks it was 1979.
Charlie was so talented and fun. RIP 🙏
Do Long Haired Country Boy.
“Poor girl wants to marry, rich girl wants to flirt. Rich boy goes to college, poor boy goes to work”. I love this song.
Rest In Peace Charlie! I grew up hearing this band!

Agreed great song and story!
I think this one was from 1978 or so. I could be wrong and I have no idea what theater or arena this took place in. Loved this reaction! I hope you and your family and friends are doing well.
One of my favourite Charlie Daniels Band songs is 'Trudy'. But a couple of other great ones are 'Texas' and 'The South's Gonna Do It Again'.

Chris Stapleton. Tennessee whiskey. Awesome song
There is a sequel called " The Devil went back to Georgia" that was sung mostly by Johnny Cash...
You’ve not experienced Charlie Daniels Band until you hear his Southern Rock Classic - South’s Gonna Do It Again.
Grew up listening to Charlie Daniels love their music. With this type you should try Kenny Rodgers the Gambler or Coward of the County. Story telling Country at its best.

Theres actually a return version called The "Devil Came Back to Georgia" but it never gets played
Great job. I also recommend "In America" live. It was recorded during the early 80s era of the Iran hostage crisis when the US was in a down mode. It's pure American hubris but great music and lyrics nonetheless. Love your channel!

I'm 44 and I grew up hearing it on The Muppets
The South is Gonna do it again..its refer to several Southern Rock bands of the 70s.

Try reacting to his song Simple man, he is so good.
Try Still In Saigon, In America, Legend Of Wooly's Swamp
That looks like Charley Daniels reacting to Charlie Daniels.
