During a break, the lead singer started to brag that their band was the only band in the area that had an electric fiddle (this was back in the 80's). He was so proud of this and he invited anyone to make a request of him and his electric fiddle. I timidly approached the stage (8 years old at the time) and requested "Devil went down to Georgia". (The version you played didn't show it, but in the album version, the Devil's part was done with an electric fiddle). The lead singer told me "You know, son, I have looked everywhere but I can't find the sheet music for that song. So I'm afraid I don't know how to play it." With a sad, disappointed face, I turned and went back to join my mother at our table, but not before asking the question," What's the use of having an electric fiddle if you can't play 'Devil went down to Georgia'?" The guy's bandmates were rolling on the stage laughing and my mother tried to crawl under our table.

Charlie Daniels was such a wonderful entertainer and performer you couldn't help but sing along with enjoyment. Mark O'Connor has a sequel called - The Devil Comes Back To Georgia. It's a collaboration between himself - Charlie Daniels a few other country artists ; you should highly consider doing a reaction video for it
His first name is Charlie and his last name was Daniel until he had it changed to Daniel. He grew up in a small community near Wilmington, NC. On a side note, he has a cousin named Francis Daniel who's a preacher.
The main difference between a fiddle and a violin is the shape of the bridge. Since the violin is usually used to play single notes at a time, the bridge is highly arched. The fiddle is flatter to allow to play chords playing 2 to even 3 strings at a time.
When your at symphony watching someone dressed up in fancy clothes play. It is called a violin. When you see a dude in old Jean's, cowboy hat, and flannel. Sitting around on the front porch, drinking and cussing at their dog. That's a "FIDDLE".
It's seems odd to think about it now, but when this song first came out many radio stations would bleep the word bitch or replace it with 'son of a gun'.
They did, except for a local Atlanta station, 96 Rock. All stations here in Georgia play the “son of a gun” version, now. I like the original best. I think it’s ok to call the devil and sob, myself. I think as Charlie got older (and he was a Christian) he felt convicted using that word. LOL. I’m sure he probably preferred the “son of a gun” version in his older age. Anyway, we lost a good man in 2020.
@@Tuesdays_Gone He recorded it both ways, but he never backed down. He brought out Ain't No Rag, its a Flag in response to 9/11. He was then invited to perform at some DC event, but organizers said he couldn't play that song since it might offend someone. He responded "If they would be offdnded by my songs, they would be offended by me." He blew off the invite and stayed home.
IF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT SON OF A GUN IS A MUCH BETTER LYRIC FOR COMPETING WITH SATAN...ONCE HE HAS YOU CURSING HE HAS YOU GAMBLING AND CURSING ,TIME IS ON HIS SIDE...WHAT WOULD GOMER DO?
@@robertchandler5055 If Gomer is who you pattern your life over, you could do worse. Thing is, the son of a gun phrase is often used to express admiration of even approval. That is not appropriate when one addresses the Devil. That cursing somehow leads inevitably to other sins, though, is not valid. By that progression, saying a bad word leads to killing someone, which is nonsense. There is no gateway sin, each is committed in isolation. Once done, repeating the same sin is more likely, but does not by itself make additional moral decay certain.

Oh my Dears, You guys are precious. Charlie Daniels is just one person, not two. He is the one playing the fiddle (violin) as it is called in the South (Country music). Secondly, the Carlie Daniels has been around for at least 50 years. He was one of the leads into what is now known as Country Rock. The song itself was a "down home explanation" of what was going on in this country and its leadership. This has been performed all over the world so it is hard to say where is one was at. If you liked this, try his Simple Man, The South Going to do it Again, Uneasy Rider and many more.
At the beginning of this performance, Charlie mentions Saratoga, so I guess they were in New York. Did you notice that Taz played the piano/keys with only one hand? His left arm is in a sling. I was 10 and living in Georgia (still do) when this came out. Charlie Daniels passed away earlier this year, and I’m so glad I got to see him a few years ago in Woodstock, GA. Yeah, it’s a fiddle, not a violin, in this genre of music. That’s what country folks call it. Charlie was an excellent guitarist, too.
Every concert looked like that. 100,000 plus people were at the last texas jam that they had. The texas jam occurred during the summer and always had 6 or 7 bands. Boston hadn't made an album or toured in around 20 years, they were the headline. Here is 1st thru last. Fahrenheit 451, tesla, poison, whitesnake, Aerosmith (before dude looks like a lady) and Boston. Man we got there at 4 in the morning pulled up to park in this feild and there was already a shitload of vehicles parked. The guys next to us had a keg of beer in their trunk. They were from kansas and we were from Louisiana. The tall guys name was Grizz. He had that tattooed on his arm. My friend said that when he got home and watched the video that he could spot grizz in the crowd. The floor was too hot for me. It had 30,000 people on it and around 80,000 in the stands. I am sure you can find a list of all of the texas jams. I only saw one😢.
Great reaction! I think the violin is the only instrument that has a different name depending upon how you play it. It is played very fast in Blue Grass & Country music, and it is called a Fiddle. In Blue Grass (which is like a subcategory of Country, maybe) the fiddle is a prominent instrument. Doobie Brother's had a violin in their band. So did the band Kansas.
They are identical in their physical appearance. What distinguishes a from a is the style of music that is played on the instrument; it's all in how you play it. ... , in contrast, is associated with a wide variety of music styles including Cajun, bluegrass, folk, and country.
I had the damnedest time trying to watch both of your faces at the same time because I knew what he was about to say.I had to watch one, rewind and watch the other
Sadly Charlie Daniels, the fiddle player, passed away this summer. He was in his eighties, and he and his band started in the late 60's, I believe. I met him and saw him perform live many times. He loved music and he would go through two or three fiddles every concert because the strings would snap! When he was a young boy his violin teacher told him he would never amount to anything as a musician. WRONG!!! He is considered the best of all time. I bet he is playing his fiddle in Heaven!!

So fun that y'all have so many comments on this post just because he had such a large following...it is exciting for us OLD Folks seeing you Young Bucks payin' attention to our people...i am hoping that y'all are doing MAD research before posting anything from anyone over the age of 4 months going forward....lol...honestly looking forward to your new content...keep up the awesome work!!!
Ive commented before on you both and I absolutely adore your reactions..keep the faith and bridging the gap..So nice to see you enjoy this.
He was in Saratoga. You said you would never bet a fiddle against your soul but there is a legend about the blues guitarist Robert Johnson who went to a crossroad in Mississippi looking for the devil to come by because he said he's sell his soul to the devil to become the best blues man ever. When the stakes are that important you'd be surprised. Ever hear someone say I'd give my right arm to win that $900,000,000.00 megamillion prize? Same thing. You should check out Charlie Daniels' song Still in Saigon. Finally say a prayer that man you enjoyed watching passed away this year and I bet you he's got a fiddle of gold 😉
Alright y'all I've watched several of your reactions and this one made me wanna be a sub! I love how y'all are open minded and react to all genres of music! Keep it going I look forward to more from you both👍👏👏👏👏
My guitar teacher once told me, it's a violin until you spill beer on it - then it's a fiddle.
Saratoga Georgia is where they played. You think it might resemble the first early rap? Some commenters thought that it did. Glad you guys enjoyed it.
Charlie Daniels was the best Fiddle player ever!! RIP Charlie
The G.O.A.T.
Charlie Daniels was such a wonderful entertainer and performer you couldn't help but sing along with enjoyment. Mark O'Connor has a sequel called - The Devil Comes Back To Georgia. It's a collaboration between himself - Charlie Daniels a few other country artists ; you should highly consider doing a reaction video for it
It's not just any fiddle. It's a fiddle made of GOLD!
I lost my shit laughing at "Charlie or Daniels" so fucking funny. Good reaction.
Filmed at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs NY. August, 1980.
Love you two! You're so much fun to watch! ✌️💙🎼🎸
I love charlie n his band rip my.man, but it took.me a.long time to enjoy this song again, after doing a dance routine to it once yr in dance class.
His first name is Charlie and his last name was Daniel until he had it changed to Daniel. He grew up in a small community near Wilmington, NC. On a side note, he has a cousin named Francis Daniel who's a preacher.
It’s a violin in the north and a fiddle in the south .... and Charlie knew how to rock seen him a few times live
I saw him ply in Long Island, NY, in a field on a beautiful summer day. I don't remember the year but it was a great show.
The Grand Ole Oprey in Nashville, Tennessee. The country artists holy grail of success.
The main difference between a fiddle and a violin is the shape of the bridge. Since the violin is usually used to play single notes at a time, the bridge is highly arched. The fiddle is flatter to allow to play chords playing 2 to even 3 strings at a time.
You can fiddle on a griddle and a violin can make you grin! -Terry, Canoga Park
Lmao love that!!!
When your at symphony watching someone dressed up in fancy clothes play. It is called a violin.
When you see a dude in old Jean's, cowboy hat, and flannel. Sitting around on the front porch, drinking and cussing at their dog. That's a "FIDDLE".
There's a parody of this called The Devil Went Down To Jamaica, which was about which person had the better weed.
I love that one 😍
It's by David Allen Coe!
The fiddle player's name is Charlie Daniels, lead singer of The Charlie Daniels Band!
......the fiddle WAS made of gold.
Lol. I love you guys!...lol. you know the saying "where we going ?..to the top,to the where .to the top!!" Was a beatles thang. Yup. This is well known. They always said this andddddd....even when they broke up. John said it ,and they all did. One last time....their last performance together was ,.....john said. Where we going. To the top...lol. they took all the equipment and shit up to the roof top. To do a last concert..."dont let me down" is the most famouse of this last roof "top" show...lol. the beatles pep phrase was "where are we going...to the top" i like that yall use that
Oh my Dears, You guys are precious.
What? Ya'll are in Milton? Panama City is my hometown, not too far away! Peace and love.
For anyone that's confused on what a fiddle is from what I know it's literally just a violin but used in country music
Paula Abdul - Rush Rush... great violin
this was super entertaining, thank you.
When they play the violin in country music, they call it a "fiddle".
One love to my peoples. Appreciate what you represent. Too many misrepresenting with hate these days. One love. 🕊
Kids like y'all give me hope for the future.
Not just a fiddle, but a fiddle of gold!
I only saw one😢.
you guys are great! really fun reaction with full honest opinion :) keep up the great work! big love to all people :)
I had the damnedest time trying to watch both of your faces at the same time because I knew what he was about to say.I had to watch one, rewind and watch the other
Same lmao
You two are adorable! Love the energy! Keep it up!
I enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing.
Charlie Daniels is from Wilmington NC local boy makes good RIP😊😊
It is a violin, but since he “fiddles” (how he plays), it’s a fiddle. They’re the same thing, just depends on how they play it
We sure miss Charlie. It still seems unreal that he's gone. 😢
