Mate the reason why they are identical is because they are the same filters mann makes them for audi, but audi brands them as audi on some of the audo ones is actually says mann filter in very little writing. Go for mann not oem. Dont pay nearly double for the same product.
There is no such thing as a synthetic oil filter, just marketing bullshit to justify its cost. Synthetic oil Is petroleum oil, just refined further to remove impurities. In my personal opinion, Synthetic oil is worth its cost.
You have a brand new car and you dont know nothing about oils, filters, lubrication and filtration generally. And 10 years later we here, in Poland are considering why that 10yo german car after 350,000km still have first fuel filter and why his oil was changed between 30-40,000km. Just use full synthetic oil like 0W30, 5W30, 5W40 (look at user manual and check what is good for your type of engine) and change it between every 10-15,000km or 1 year(if you driving 5,000km every year you must chenge your oil as well). DON'T TRUST LONG LIFE SERVICE! THAT CAUSE A LOT OF CONTAMINATIONS IN ENGINE! And use good quality oil like Liqui Molly, Motul, Valvoline. Avoid Castrol!!! Of course change the oil filter (Mann or Mahle/Knecht are the best). Dont forget about fuel and air filters. They can be changed every 2nd oil change. 20-30,000km is a good interval for it. Fuel filter in Petrol engine can be changed even less often but not in diesel engine. And good to change cabin air filter every year(best to change every fall and spring season).
They have the same Mann part number so they are the same part, just printed differently. That slight difference on the thread is a red herring and of no concern. If you opened 100 of the same filters, there would probably be a small variance across the range too. I have made a similar video using my Volvo filter and the Mann part is identical to OE too.
Great video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. I have always been using Mann filters on my VAG cars and now I know why. Yes, they are identical. Arizona Autohaus has the best prices on Mann filters that I have found online.
Nice video. What you should have done though is open the filter media and measure the filter medium area. Also any info if the medium actually is the same even though it looks the same. What is micron size of the medium and beta ratio.
+Krapula Genkula Hey Krapula, thanks for the feedback. That would've been a great idea. Maybe next time if i decide to make a video about filters I will do that.
good video. make more videos about audi. like what wheels are the best, suspension, how to change the grill , how to change the lights and stuff. this is dope continue it
It depends which filter manufacturer the car manufacturer has the contract with. Were you doing the the comparison today, in 2019, they would be out of the same factory because Mann are currently OE to VAG. These two filters look like they came out of the same factory.
The Audi filter is likely to be a Mann filter branded for Audi. The VW dealer sells Mann filters for my car but in a VW branded box. That is the only difference. The filter in the box even has the Mann part number and no mention of VW. That is the only difference for my filter, the packaging it comes in and so I often look for the Mann filter on sale when it is time to change the oil.
I'd have compared the Audi OE to a Hengst filter. I've had Mann and Hengst filters and the Hengst look better made despite Mann being OE for our VW TDI cars. By the way, don't be surprised if the filter you get is not made in Germany since the likes of Mann and Hengst manufacture in several countries. Mann also make filters for the Bosch label.
Which model did is that one for? My VW has a cartridge type and it does not take the spin on types like that one or like all other cars I had. In a way I like it. I can see the quality of the filter as I install it. When I used to use the spin on can types on non VW cars, I would pre-fill them with oil. Now depending on where your filter is and all, you might make a horrible mess pre-filling the filter and in reality you don't get too much wear but it is nice to have less air in the filter for the initial startup.
Very interesting ,video in many ways.especially the one I think I hope I,m understanding correctly .Reading-between the lines they are basically identical products apart from one thread length difference. The most interesting though was it appears one is a lot less expensive?.
Mann make the OEM filters for Volkswagen Audi group cars. Skoda seat. I use Mann filters on my Skoda Octavia which has the tsi engine. never had any problems.
Why do you think they are the best, what is the efficiency of these filters? I put a Fram Ultra in my A4, double the price and the inside looks a lot more solid.. we will see. The Mann filter looks like the Fram Extra Guard, a much cheaper filter.
To the those people that might not know is that a car manufacturer only builds the body and engine block everything else that bolts on is outsourced. Example when I replaced my clutch oem was ap. My window regulator magneti marelli. iBook at your old parts and most times you can see manufacturers mark
All this filter business creates a big question who make OEM filters, ive used Hengst Fram Crossland and thats in 160.000 vehicles. Just took out a Hengst from a BMW e39 diesel 2yrs and 10.000 mls the filter was in excellent condition.
Hi guys,I have a c220cdi (Diesel) should i go with Mercedes Genuine oil or Mobil 1 Esp MB approval and diesel compiatble. They both cost about the same. I was also thinking of Liqui Molly as it has such great reviews and is a German Brand
do you have diesel fuel filter for comparison as well ? i don't trust mann filter after a youtube video shows that the filter material is terribly thin.
Mann is the OEM manufacturer of VW AUDI filters. The difference you see is MANN saving money and metal resource by making the filter with less metal. They just improved it by saving on materials. HENGST and MAHLE are also suitable. Also you should not use Mobile 1 oil in your car. Mobile 1 causes yellow oil varnish on your internal parts. You should use an oil like Motul VW specific, Motul 8100 xcess or Motul x clean
enginemaxcarb. I used it in one of my cars for years, so I only know this from experience; and every car I've seen that runs Mobile 1 has the yellow varnish coating on everything.
ArcolaBridge Mann is also the OEM supplier for the Air filters, cabin filters and oil filters for Mercedes Benz. That is all I use for my Mercedes customers. I have seen that with Mobile 1, but I am not certain how true it is since so many cars are factory filled and use Mobile 1 including Mercedes Benz. I personally use Amsoil in all of my vehicles and in many of my Mercedes Benz customers vehicles.
I've been using Mann filters for several years because of their renowned quality. Sadly though, I got a fuel filter recently and it looked poorly made so got a refund. Doing a bit of research, Hengst came to my attention so I may try a few of their filters.
Mann is the OEM supplier for Audi... BMW.. Benz & VW... so it's exactly the same filter.... MANN makes the filters for all these cars... also sells it for DIY's .... that's called a OEM supplier... non of there car makers MAKE their own parts... WOW!!!
You are right , i dont understand why he didn't mention that !! They both have been manufactured by MANN and have identical specifications and performance ! Comparison was useless !
If you were in the business of repairing these cars for any length of time, you'd know MANN has been an OEM supplier to numerous European auto manufacturers. As with companies like Knecht Filter, the filter business is their business and auto manufacturers have been trusting them to produce the very best filtering products for decades. The slight difference in threaded boss length is most likely the difference required in design to prevent infringement of licensing agreements with the automaker and is of no consequence from a functional perspective. The video above is typical of novices going on line to prove effectively how little they know. No one with any industry knowledge or experience would bother cutting these filters apart - they already know who is supplying who in the auto parts industry. Another dumb Y-tube video...
+villastrangiato there is no doubt this video was of help to some ppl, like myself for a start. Just because it was useless to you, it does not mean it deserves to be trashed. If you do not have a positive thing to say to someone for making an effort to help others, and who has not led anyone into error, then why don't you refrain from negative comments. All you do is come across as an egotistical knowitall. You could have said everything you said, without trashing this guys efforts. You have no right to do that, so next time you get an egotistical urge to tell the world what a smart bunny you are, resist it and shut up instead.
The length of the threads has nothing to do with infringement. It's simply a running production change. All the companies work together, including competitors. Anyhow, silly videos like this are for those obsessed with endless "tests" and cred on autojunkie forums. Mann, Mahle, Knecht, Hengst, whatever. They all come from a couple of manufacturers anyhow.
Whats the point of cutting the filters. Wasting time Wasting money Wasting filters Wasting resources to produce this filter. Mahle Knecht Hengst and Mann are the filters to go. No need to buy genuine audi filter which is more expensive and actually the same crap as one of these brands will produce for them in anyway.
Mate the reason why they are identical is because they are the same filters mann makes them for audi, but audi brands them as audi on some of the audo ones is actually says mann filter in very little writing. Go for mann not oem. Dont pay nearly double for the same product.
Welk the Audi filter is made by Mann, so there is no difference!
Thanks for the confirmation! munnsey

@@TheKrisu091 Why to avoid Castrol? I have 22 years old VW Jetta and all i have ever used was Castrol, never had problems with that oil.
@@KRAUSER0130 Castrol makes some excellent products, don't listen to him. Not saying all their products are amazing, but no one's are.
Mann filters are also sold under the Purolator name for European applications, Since Purolator is joint owned by Bosch and Mann Hummel.
They have the same Mann part number so they are the same part, just printed differently.

Good test. I tested on my channel oils filter: Denso Toyota OEM and Japan parts.
Enriching - tests and opinions
What's the prince difference? Well I assume that MANN would be somewhat cheaper than the Audi/VW one, just because it doesn't say Audi/VW
The Audi filter is likely to be a Mann filter branded for Audi. The VW dealer sells Mann filters for my car but in a VW branded box. That is the only difference. mann is a good quality brand you should have compared the oem filter with some no name brand from eBay that would have been interesting
Probably both filters are made in the same factory.
Probably............? Absolutely. One and the same. This happens with numerous other brands.
Glad to see the comparison. I am trying to determine if the spin-on filter that Hyundai uses is made by Mann, like the V-6 filter is.
William Iwaniuk Thanks! Yea MANN makes pretty good filters.
MANN is the Factory Supplier for VAG Group ;-)
Great video. Because of you I'm going to use the Mann filter on my volkswagen. Thanks

Seems pretty obvious that Mann produces the OEM filter. Get the cheapest deal!

How about the Mann compared to the Bosch filter
Mann and Mahle\Knecht are the best. BOSCH or FILTRON are not bad but Mann and Mahle\Knecht are better.
I've been using Mann filters for several years because of their renowned quality. Sadly though, I got a fuel filter recently and it looked poorly made so got a refund.
Doing a bit of research, Hengst came to my attention so I may try a few of their filters.
Hi did you make a weight comparison between the two filters?
Hi Shariq, I didn't weigh them.
It appears to me audi outsources their filters from Mann, since Audi dosen't actually manufactures them!
how about Mann made both filters!!
Maybe mesuring the can thickness would have been a good idea just to confirm that it's the same filter.
They are the same filter, out of the same factory. Mann is also OE for VW.
Mann filter is a filter manufacturery. Audi and bmw an many car manufacturers buys and develop there filters ad the Mann filter manufactory.
Great video
Great video 👍🏻
такое ачучение будто ауди для торговли ОЕМ фильтрами (этого артикула точно) используют внутренности МАИИ, только пихают их в свою оболочку)

All German proper brand filters are fine, the endless debate is just useless and boring.

I learned nothing watching this..
