      Let me know when we do not need a chinese adapter to use each (basically identical spec) battery pack with our tools. Chemistry is chemistry, nerdy corp beancounters purposely attack working people and small business by making their (identical cell and voltage despite 18/20v marketing to idiots shenanigan's) batts incompatible.

      I completely agree with you. However I don’t think you understood my point😃 Because Ryobi batteries have the tower with the connectors where it fits in the tools, having a thick adapter of the same height as the tower plus some other thickness of the said adapter in order to slide in and out of the tools, it looks really alien and tools will get a bit awkward to work with.
      If you look online, you will see hundreds of adapters to use batteries from different manufactures on Ryobi tools but not many adapters to use a Ryobi batteries on other tools due to the awkwardness of the adapter itself.
      Imagine the looks you will get at a job site when you pull out a Ryobi adapter from a toolbox as thick as a drill body. 😃

    Clint, great video as always. Entertaining and informative. What more could you ask for? Got two questions. I'm not a Trades Guy, I'm a DIY Guy so my batteries and tools might sit awhile before I get off my fat butt and jump into another project. Dewalt 20v batteries hang on to their charge for a good long time in storage, months with no losses. Does Dewalt know much about the storage loss of charge on these new batteries, and is it as good as the current batteries? Second, everything I got is on the Dewalt platform which means I've got quite the investment in batteries. Any chance the Dewalt guys might offer a trade in/trade up program? The 20v batteries can go for years before needing to be replaced/recycled and I don't want to wait that long to experience some of that schweet, schweet Power Stack power. I have no problem spending for some new tech, but I know these will likely be more expensive than current batteries and a little trade in discount on the price would certainly free up the change in my pockets faster! Keep up the great work!

I would just expect them to easily drill a 1" spade hole without a problem no matter the battery. Anyways as a drone builder and operator who has used several lipo batteries I would like to see a drop and durability test. Battery explosions are still common in the drone industry because the rapid charge and discharging as well as impacts... I dont know if you want the technicals on this but I work in industrial electronics. The switch is inevitable and it is safe for continuous use (*asterisk on this). The current batteries (li-on) have a 1-3C rating so it severely limits the output wattage on power tools. I am assuming this was the reason for flex volt, higher voltage = higher wattage if you have the same 1-3C rating. With the new Li-po batteries, Dewalt can have anywhere from 20-100C rating for the batteries, basically x20-100 for power output. Side note: will they get rid of the flex volt line because they do not need to increase the voltage to 60v?
    Now the asterisk from before, the nice quality about the current batteries is that they can operate at higher temperatures for longer. The additional heat you experienced was completely normal and perfectly fine. Some can operate at temperatures above 100 Celcius. The new Li-po cannot hand heat well, I do not mean heat stress they run cool. I worry about a scenario such as using the batteries on a roof in the middle of summer. The batteries could overheat even with protection.

      @@ToolReviewZone Makita has the same amount of power and runtime as the top Milwaukee and DeWalt with their 2x18V tools. The reason they haven't pushed 21700 batteries on their 18V platform is because it would break compatibility with their 2x18V tools. 21700 cells would make the batteries wider and they wouldn't fit. The newest 2x18V tools have space in between the batteries to accommodate larger ones in the future.
      I see the benefit of the DeWalt power stack battery. It can supply as much power as a 10 cell power tool battery (typically 3/4 Ah and upwards) while only having five cells. But! LiPo batteries are not as durable as cylindrical cells (fewer charge cycles) and not as high capacity. The power stack is only 1.7Ah. The power stack is simply a cheap battery they can package with their high performance tools.

    They look awesome, sound good. But the new cells are easier to mass produce and sound. The 18650 Li- ion cells are sound and awesome and easily changed to repair an old or bad cell so your batteries last. This is a good video but I'm gonna stick with what I have. Good for dewalt trying to come up with new ideas.

      Also a reason they haven’t used LiPo cells in power tools apparently is they’re more fragile.

    The 700 series drill is a nice little drill I think mine is the 796??? Anyway it would be nice to see the bigger drill tested 996 or 999, to see if that little battery could push those drills. If by chance it worked out it would REALLY show how awesome these thing will be when we get 5/6 amp hr. Then of course Flex volt it really could be a game changer.Ohhh and if it all works out I'm sure milwaukee will do it and start bragging about how wonderful there new technologie is!!!!!! Kind of like the new toyota F150 I mean tundra!!!!

    How does the power stack compare against the xr batteries

  • @liers99
    @liers99 2 года назад

    My question will be will be how long before these batteries start blowing up the older tools because they can’t handle the power? Also curious to see what happens to the flexvolt line. I love my flex volt saw but the same power in a smaller lighter package would be nice.

    • @Fekillix
      @Fekillix 2 года назад +1

      "how long before these batteries start blowing up the older tools because they can’t handle the power" that's not how electricity works, so you don't have to worry. These also aren't more powerful than existing DeWalt batteries, in fact they are weaker than their 10 and 15 cell batteries. They are just stronger than their current small 5 cell (2Ah) batteries.

    • @liers99
      @liers99 2 года назад

      @@Fekillix so then why is there a big performance difference between say a 3ah and a 6ah battery? My XR oscillating tool has a very noticeable power increase with a 4ah or bigger. The grip also gets so hot I can’t hold onto it with the bigger battery. 3ah or smaller no excess heat. That’s what I’m using as a frame of reference.

    I just wish they had larger than 1.7ah batteries. I don't have much faith in the run time of those smaller batteries. They might be alright when they're fresh out of the package but after a few months I hope they can hold a charge for more than 10 screws.
