Frollo & Esmeralda; A Love Story...Part One.

Things to know:
-Frollo is the Archdeacon of Notre Dame, NOT the judge as in the Disney movie.
-Begins as onesided Esmeralda loving Frollo, as opposed to the book and the movie being the opposite.
PLOT

The video begins with Esmeralda confessing her love to Frollo inside of Notre Dame.
Frollo admits that he knew of her feelings all along, and Esmeralda is surprised, fear of rejection showing on her face.
Frollo then tells her with a coy smile that "He would if could".
The story then flashes back to the first time they saw one another.
Frollo, from atop Notre Dame, first sees Esmeralda dancing down below him in the square. He observes the attractive gypsy with a long stare, yet is initially repulsed by her vagrant and heathen ways.
Meanwhile, while dancing in the street, Esmeralda suddenly hears a male voice singing from above her; looking up, she sees that the beautiful voice is coming from a solemn and austere man singing atop Notre Dame. She gazes up at him, entranced, and falls for the Archdeacon at that moment.
Frollo suddenly feels a heated gaze upon him and, while singing, looks down and he and Esmeralda's eyes meet for the first time. She smiles, biting her lip and retreating in a flush. She becomes enamored.
The story flashes back forward to Esmeralda remembering what transpired after her confession of love to the priest. She cannot believe that he could so easily and coldly disregard her feelings for him; He storms away from her quickly, slamming the door to the cloisters loudly.
Esmeralda sinks in front of the door in defeat, pained and humiliated by the priest's hurtful remarks and attitude towards her.
However, she remembers a time when the priest had once smiled at her, and spoken to her gently and kindly, attraction over-flowing between them. With new resolve, Esmeralda slams open the door to the cloisters and chases down the priest, calling after him as he flees from her up the staircase.
Finally reaching him, out of breath, she comes out from behind a statue and sits beside him, and kisses him.
Frollo merely smirks, commenting that she is persistent. He admits that he finds her to be charming, 'for a gypsy', but rejects her again, telling her that all she is to him is a 'test of strength from his lord', and that she is nothing but a vile heathen woman.
He leaves with a smirk, leaving Esmeralda alone in despair, believing her love is now a hopeless cause.
A few days later the Feast of Fools arrives; Frollo attends and is immediately accosted by Clopin, Esmeralda's fellow gypsy friend; Clopin is well aware of Esmeralda's crush on the Archdeacan and wants them together. Esmeralda's dance arrives and she leaves Frollo breathless; he is stunned by her beauty, but out of pride he attempts to hide it from her and only gives her cold, indifferent stares through out her performance.
After Esmeralda's dance, Clopin (he's so devious) devises a plan to get them together and procedes to shove Frollo into Esmeralda's tent. As he falls he grabs a curtain and sees Esmeralda changing on accident. Needless to say he is mortified, being a priest and seeing a half-nude woman, specifically the one he rejected only days before. Expecting her to use it against him, or to berate him, to humiliate him, he is met with only kind words from her.
Something inside Frollo is touched; Esmeralda spared him at his most vulnerable, while he, on the other hand, had stomped on her feelings when she had made herself vulnerable by baring herself to him. He realizes that she is not just a gypsy-temptress, but beautiful and kind. She guides him out of the tent, and he tells her that he enjoyed her performance. They smile at one another; all is forgiven.

I never thought a pairing like this where Esmerelda was going after Claude would ever work but you definitely made it believable.

Honestly, I was disgusting with this couple, but when I watched the film and I heard the song "Hell Fire" again, I fell in love with this couple because of Frollo´s way of love to Esmeralda.
I really like the concept of this story; it's quite refreshing to see Esmeralda pursuing Frollo instead of the other way around. :D Love it~
Who is not a Placebo fan? They are amazing, regardless of all the stupidity of haters. I have only listened to several songs of theirs but I am a fan alright. Anyway, back to Frollo, the Hugo's archdeacon is hopeless beyond remedy, while the Disney's judge is helpless beyond remedy. I only wish there would be more respect paid to him, rather than making him blind and scornful all the time. You made him more than that, and I can tell your version of Frollo is indeed what he should be.

And fancy choosing Placebo for the music. Too bad not quite a few have watched this video. I can only say that your work is among the finest of the finest videos about Frollo and, someone else. April is almost over, and this means the next part is almost released.
More personally, Frollo in your story is, somewhat, just the way I would imagine him. I never thought I'd live to see the day another person could have the same idea. But now that you have got it, I can die in peace.

I think this is a really different reimagining of Frollo and Esmeralda. As someone who loves this movie and has read the book and seen many adaptations of the story, I like that gave it more depth and complexity. I love it!
Ooh! THat was SO well put together! *smiles* I'm reading the book right now, and I got to the point where Frollo was comfessing his love/obession to her. While I was reading that, what Frollo was describing her as "a goddess...more beatiful than the sight of Lord..." and other stuff I thought it was cute and sweet. But at the same time kinda disturbing. But I LOVE your video! It's so cool! I love what you did by mashing other sences with it and such. ^^ 5/5 *fave

That was AMAHZING. The masking, the timing, the song - everything was great!! Geeze louise, you is a masking goddess!! I love the sepia tone/partial black and white effect, too. It makes the video very surreal. Tragic ending please! I can't wait for the next part. =D

First of all, I love Placebo something awful, so props for using this song.
Second, I need to get my hands on Sony Vegas 7!!
Thirdly, the cinematography is just gorgeous. The manips blend almost seamlessly together!!
Fourthly, I second Yami -- it was actually a very original piece, and I always respect that.
And number five, I vote for a tragic ending. I'm a huge fan of tragic love stories :)

Gah, another Placebo fan! Love the band, and it went so well with this video. And I was surprised that the subtitles didn't look as corny as I expected they would- when some people use them, they look terrible, but they're used rather well here. Off to the next part!

Everyone wishes that it happened in the movie. Frollo, your Frollo, has better senses than the other two that I mentioned. And it is nice to see Esmeralda gets those emotional woes for once. She always seems to be lucky and blessed in the official versions (even though she still suffers). You made her more real and more to my loving.

Dude, have you even read the book? He isn't scornful it talks for like half the book on how passionate the frollo in the book is. I'm sorry I'm not a fan of people who do fan fictions :( I enjoy Disney's version and I particularily enjoy the original story because if the bad guy loses everyone loses but hugo didn't even see his Frollo as a villian. He saw all his characters just stuck in between difficult decisions.

A part of the first impression was lost, because of absenting english subtitles for the song. Not everyone must know damned disfigured French.
First it is not ''dude'', I am a female. Then I know you may favour the book version, it is your freedom, but you should remember when Hugo got to the part when Frollo ran away for not having the courage to watch Esmeralda's execution, he did mention that Frollo was a coward. To me anyone who fails to overcome the power of flesh is unworthy. A man of better virtues could have done something else. The original Frollo is a misguided man with brain but succumbing to that fleur du mal is pathetic.
