      Varda was always the most sacred of the Valar to the elves, for it was she who gave them the light they saw whem they first awoke in Cuivienen. They never forgot her, whether Caliquendi or Moriquendi, they would always remember her... until they too passed into the uttermost West.
      Thank you so much... this really touched my heart and was exactly what I needed today.

    For those who aren't familiar, A Elbereth Gilthoniel is a Sindarin Hymn to Varda Elentari, the Queen of the Stars in Tolkien's legendarium. It's so beautiful because the Elves awoke in Middle Earth under the dominion of the Dark Lord Melkor (Morgoth) thousands of years before the sun and moon were created, and the only light visible to them was the stars. For this reason, they held Varda in even greater awe than the other Valar.

    • @gianni.sacciloto
      @gianni.sacciloto Месяц назад +8

      Their name for themselves also references that: Eldar, which can be translated to something close to "people of the stars". They loved Varda, and her stars, above all else.

    I love how your tone varies throughout the song. At times it sounds like a lone elf singing contemplative as they wander through the forests of Middle Earth, yet at its crescendo it's enough to put the fear of the Valar into the orcs at the coming of the hosts of the West in the War of Wrath

      I dont know where you get this idea from. Nothing Tolkien wrote "represents" or "is" anything in the real world. He wrote a story, and a myth. It is not history, it is not an allegory. You can apply some of the ideals and morals of the story to your life, but it is inherently wrong to claim that Elbereth IS someone from real life. Or that Harad IS the Middle East. They are not. They are inspired by certain common ideas from history, and that's where the similarities end.

      @@Glorfindel_117 It is, as Tolkien wrote in one of his letters, "a fundamentally religious and Catholic work, unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision." I don't think it is at all far-fetched to assume that he may have had some Catholic imagery in mind when writing parts of the story, especially when considering how compatible the worldbuilding is with the real world. It does not take much suspension of imagination to argue that these events actually happened.

      @@Glorfindel_117Tolkien wove catholic teachings in his books. So to say that Elbereth is (at least!) inspired by our lady isn´t wrong.

    It sort of approaches a bardcore style, but it's the best adaptation of the musical poem that I've seen. Given that Tolken was a linguist and not an expert of medieval and earlier musical styles, I think it would have also been more in line with his own understanding as well.

    This was absolutely lovely, but I was expecting the tune from the films. It's still very beautiful. I'm just hoping you do the other version one day!
