The Bioshock Series Retrospectives is now complete! Thank you all so much for this series support but I want to know, what is your personal favourite Bioshock experience?
I played Bioshock Infinite first and I loved the atmosphere, especially at the beginning, though I also played the dlc and spoiled the first game. Anyway, I just came here from Mr.Hammers retweet and your channel is right up my alley but of course you can't trust youtube to recommend something interesting for a change so now I have a lot of catching up to do. Also congrats!
Personally I don't like the thought of the events of BioShock being the result of Elizabeth's actions. And Jack wasn't much of a character to really make up for the bittersweet ending of Elizabeth's story. Atlas is also not acting the same way he did in BioShock but is an obvious psychopath. I have some more issues with the story but there were also many things that I did like. Like seeing a still functioning Rapture, going back to Columbia and the idea of Fink and Suchong working together.
I think this DLC has a little something for any fan of Bioshock. You may not like the entire experience like me, but there is a lot of fan service here for sure :)
The good thing about all the timey wimey stuff and all the different universes is that it makes the game more open ended. Much like you I like the suchong stuff but not really all of Elizabeth’s involvement, but you can easily say that this is an alternate universe that gives us insight to the main world of bioshock but also does not directly correlate. Idk if I got my point across or not lol
It's really cool to hear how this DLC builds on the overall universe and has a good story. That's honestly all I ever want from DLC, expanding everything and bringing something new
I highly suggest playing both Infinite and Burial at Sea Episode 1 on the 1999 mode for extra difficulty overall. With less ammo alongside the game resetting to the previous save point whenever you run out of money and then die, it helped me felt much more cautious than I ever did on the lower difficulties. I felt the difficulty also encouraged me to use more of the plasmids/vigours to overcome each encounter. I felt like I needed to look everywhere for supplies and plan things out more in order to survive and progress. As for Episode 2, I highly recommend playing it on the 1998 mode without picking up the Peeping Tom, it allows you to look around the level much more and find ways to either avoid or overcome enemies depending on the location. I will also add this allowed me to focus on the sound design that helped me throughout the expansion. The 1998 mode restricts you to just the crossbow, it adds this mindset to know when to engage or avoid them altogether. I felt like I needed to look everywhere for extra money and supplies for a series of encounters. I think this negates the issue of the game feeling too easy, I felt that prior to replaying it on the 1999 mode for my second playthrough and I never lowered it since.
You're right about the DLC playing damage control for Daisy, but I disagree about how. I saw her as perfectly written in the base game. She's a violent revolutionary who has to play nice because she doesn't have the means to rebel yet, but as soon as she gets her guns the facade dropes and the monster comes out. Her willingness to kill Finks son was very in character and the DLC retconning that as an act to soften her character makes no sense. It seemed entirely like they wanted to portray her in as heroic a light as possible because she's the poor oppressed minority fighting for justice when in reality these kinds of people are usually just as tyranical as the one's they're fighting against. They got it right first time around and should have left her complete arc be.
I genuinely dislike the twist in ep. 1. The problem as I see it is that Elizabeth is killing off all the different Comstocks (which makes no sense as there are INFINITE UNIVERSES IN WHICH HE EXISTS), and seems to hate this one in particular due to the death of that specific Anna/ Elizabeth, when this is actually Booker's fault. On top of that, she insists on him remembering why and thus needing Sally, but she could have plucked Sally through a tear, forced Comstock to remember, and then ended his life there. I realize then that the DLC couldn't happen without the series of events that actually occur, but much like everything else with Infinite, Elizabeth and the infinite universes take all the steam out of the story if you put it up to even the slightest scrutiny,
I love Burial at Sea. It fixes Infinite's problems and the gameplay is their take on making it more Bioshock-y. Great videos man! It's a great re-tell of the game (to make us remember it) and at the same time a review/essay. Good luck with the channel!
I felt most moved and invested with Burial at sea 2. And i really enjoy the gameplay, a fan of Dishonored+. It's the Bioshock i find myself most yearning for. Thanks for the reminder.
6:40 To me, the suspicion came from the portrait given to Elizabeth. It has the ponytail and bow. Elizabeth cut it off and never wore it again. Correlates to the innocent and utopian Paris of the dream.
it's funny cohen is so integral to this dlc, because what I remember the most about him from bioshock one besides the insane performance art is getting his key after taking photos and then insta killing him with a pipe wrench for the 2nd reward
The only thing that I truly dislike about burial at sea is how subject Delta was supposed to be the 1st successful pairing between a little sister in a Big Daddy and they erased that
Wait so does that mean that bio shock infinite happened before the 1st bio shock? With Elizabeth knowing she would have to sacrifice herself for Jack later on to kill atlas/frank So if I’m not wrong the timeline of the bio shock games would be. 1. Infinite 2. Bio shock 3 Bio shock 2 Hopefully in the 4th bio shock game coming soon they talk more about Jack because I feel like we don’t know him as well. Just that Ryan was his farther and was the ruler of rapture. But yeah let me know if I missed anything did hard bio shock fans.
Well yes Bioshock Infinite is set sometime in the 1910s, and Bioshock 1 and 2 are set in the 60s. So technically it is set before even without the DLC. But since it's a prequel it wouldn't make a lot of sense to play Infinite first. I honestly hope they move away from Rapture altogether in the next game, since Jack's story is basically complete and he's only really something like 5 years old during the events of BS1 and we basically played through everything meaningful in his life. The 'canon' main reality ending from BS1 just concludes that he gets a peaceful life as a free man after saving a bunch of little sisters, so I hope instead of disrupting that we can see some other different but slightly connected alternate universe for the new game the way Infinite's main story does it.
i loved the DLC, but i still have to stay this, Elizabeth is the reason why rapture collapsed (or at least the reason on how Fontaine (Atlas) was able to launch his revolt into rapture) … if she hadn’t come back rapture would’ve continue to “maybe” to still be a more civil area instead of a battlefield.
Nah, the whole thing about Rapture is that it's their libertarian ideals that are going to bring it down regardless. It's doomed because it's built on a flawed ideal in the first place.
“Yeah, it totally builds on the universe”, it’s not like it trampled on the canon of the first two games(it does). Good story? Heck no, the little sister for example(Sally) has nothing distinctive about her, no personality quirks or anything. No interaction between her and “Booker” before she was taken. Eleanor as a little sister was more distinctive and had more personality in Bioshock 2.
People have their gripes with infinite and burial ar sea, but I just played the entire game and both chapters of the dlc for the first time and I absolutely fuckin loved every second of it .. they don’t make games like this anymore, no tedious bullshit just straight up fun gameplay and an intriguing as hell story , I’m probably gonna replay the base game right now and then replay burial at sea.. fantastic game right here i dont care what people say, playing it for the first time in 2023 was a glorious experience
@@pawechomka6038 yeah it should be included.. on the main menu just go to downloadable content or extra content, something like that it says, and that’ll take u to the burial at sea dlc
I'm finally getting around to beating Bioshock so I'll be working on B2 and MD. Theb Beating Infinite again which is the only one I beat on 360. Then I'll play this dlc for the first time ever.
I feel like they did Elizabeth dirty with these DLCs. She killed herself just to save one girl and one version of Rapture that isn't even the same Rapture that we played through? It's silly and makes me quite upset. Not angry, not sad, just upset, disappointed with her like I would with my own daughter for making such a silly choice.
I can definitely understand that perspective, I never even really though about it like that too be honest but it is a strange character decision for sure.
This game is one of my most disappointing games of all modern games. It's beautiful. Nice feeling. In fact I initially loved the travel system thing with the lines it was one of the funnest things to do. But for me this game just didn't quite land as well as the first 2. They need to do a doom style with bioshock and just make a gameplay focused mayhem filled experience! I'd love that. I never played the dlc though and the story is great to hear about but I'd rather watch about it or watch a well made review like this. It's interesting.
Don't worry I've heard that a lot now about Infinite xD The story is really my personally selling point for the DLC because it just adds so much to the universe of Bioshock. Really interesting game to cover I had a tonne of fun with this one!

The Elizabeth gameplay looks like my worst nightmare in gaming haha.
Overall I like BaS, but there are things I don't like about like its confusing plotholes.
I at first liked the dlc, then hated it. It shouldn't have been linked together
This DLC is a masterpiece in storytelling and writing. It was breathtaking.
I adored this DLC's story, it is worth playing to experience the story alone!

BaS is the worst thing happened to BioShock since Infinite
Bioshock Infinite was terrible and so were the DLCs.
This is what last of us 2 should have been
