I do actually hear that a lot from many friends I recommend the game to. It seems to be a game that if you played at launch was hit and miss with people, but now with time passing seems to be gathering more and more popularity :)
@@MayorHairBear agreed. I told a few friends who have gamepass to give the game a try and they actually ended up liking it. Both the game and the show. I think the biggest issue this game had back then was that it came out too soon for it's time. A video game with a full fledged tv show ontop of it was unheard of when it released. Microsoft and Remedy were testing the waters I guess you can say. That and I think its also because the Xbox one was still recovering from its disaster of a reveal at the time, when Microsoft marketed the console as a glorified cable box that plays games and focused mostly on tv and multimedia features rather than games. I think the tv show portion of Quantum Break may have turned people off due to that. I gave this game a skip because of that. Oh how I wish I didn't... it was fun!
This game is absolutely phenomenal. I feel that if they hadn't consumed their resources on the TV series, then this game would easily be a MASTERPIECE.
Honestly, I sympathized with Paul throughout the entire story my first time around and attributed his shortcomings in behavior to side effects of his Chronon Syndrome. I enjoy sympathetic protagonists as it just makes the emotion that much more complex. I can definitely see the differences in style choices between the Live Action and Gameplay Sections. Good work man!
I actually really empathized with Paul my second playthrough and I think that comes down to, how you want to play Paul. What sort of choices do you think he would make, instead of, what would best suit Jack. Thanks for the support mate, really appreciate it!
I appreciate the support mate and glad you enjoyed it! Quantum Break does cop a lot of grief and whilst I don't think the game is flawless, I still had a very positive experience replaying it :)
It took a bit of brain power to follow the story fully, but I like how it's a more realistic look at what time travel would be like if it existed. I feel like the writing and acting in the TV series could have been better, but still a very interesting experience.
100% It does immerse you into the world more because the idea and concept of time travel here seems... as plausible as I could imagine :) TV series is definitely a let down but still was a bold risk from Remedy and it should be commended for trying something different.
My favorite part of this game was their take on theoretical time travel. Most games use time travel to conveniently fill plot holes. Their take on time travel in quantum break blows my mind everytime
I did like it much more on my second attempt. Just this holiday season I play the game once more and it was fun. Interactive Netflix quality TV and not bad shooter. This game need to be taken slowly - it's not DOOM 2016.
Paul isn’t vaporised at the end. He has become a Shifter, so his “death” was only the death of one of his (now near infinite) Quantum Waveforms. Shifters can only exist within Stutters so once the normal flow of time is resumed, Paul can not exist within the current timeline (unlike Hatch who has learned to exist wherever and whenever he chooses across infinite timelines and multiverses.) It’s all pretty trippy stuff really. Makes your head hurt when you really go deep into the story and lore! Really hope we get a sequel!
Really well put together video and I couldn't agree more that Quantum Break is underrated. I got it through Xbox game pass because I'd never even heard of it and I'm just finishing my second play through and it's so good!
Quantum Break is the best thing Remedy has made to date. It's focus on story, character, and logistical constraints of of the speculative fiction it creates makes it one of the best time traveling stories I've ever experienced.
for me, everything that remedy makes is so good, control was a masterpiece, i platinumed the hell out of it, including the dlc, its just amazing game, mystery, sci fi, everything about it gameplay, story it's just amazing, quantum break was also so good, they are the best at sci fi mystery stories, and the same with alan wake, i loved every second of it... and all their games are under rated
What did you play the game on? From memory I experienced some frame drops later in the game but not too many bugs but agreed the story is really enjoyable!
I enjoyed the game, it wasnt confusing and I read everything and it added the pieces to the story, the one thing that made me stumped was hatch, great game, great story line but theres always room for development and expansion I hope they make another with the story continued. But been a game that costs $100million to make I doubt it. Good review.
The story and lore are a masterpiece, combat and some stuff was clunky at times, Paul boss battle 1 hit kill and not knowing where is safe and not. Alan wake is aa masterpiece as well, and control was amazing and had amazing set pieces. I know I am bias to remedy and are my favorite studio, so I can understand if others don't feel the same. I even loved American nightmare.
One of the better time travel stories for sure. Enjoyed the cast and art style. Gameplay was a bit clunky, but loved the entire vibe and world building. I remember replaying missions just to look around and admire everything. Quantum Break walked so that Control could run. Idk what Remedy was on tho when they did the mocap on Quantum Break, they're far superior in that game compared to Control
Beat this game yesterday, played it non stop for 12 hours straight on Hard, thanks to GamePass. I overlooked this game due to mixed reviews when it was released, lesson learned to never rely on reviews. Another + for having GamePass I can try the games for myself. Great game!!!
I think an important lesson I learnt a while back is... listen to reviews but you're right, don't rely on them. Give games a go for yourself and gamepass is a great way to do that! Glad you finally played this game and enjoyed yourself so much, Quantum Breaks a great time!
I really loved Quantum Break & played in numerous times. When Control was announced I was immediately hyped for the game, but upon completing Control, I really didn’t like it as much as Quantum Break. Just my opinion.
I love this game. I've probably beaten this game 3 or 4 times and always come back it it. I actually loved the live action segments of the game and how your choices could change the story. Also wanted to point out that Dominic Monaghan played Charlie Pace in Lost.
I'm glad to hear it mate! We all enjoy different things and whilst personally the tv aspect didn't do it for me I can see why others would enjoy the blend 😊
Nice work here! The story makes more sense now and my thoughts on the tv series, albeit entertaining, lacking towards pushing the main story forward greatly, were said here (awesome!). I’m conflicted to play it again after just finishing it - If the collectibles didn’t effect the live action episodes I wouldn’t want to replay ! Lol
Discovered your channel through the YT algorithm! Really good work mate. Your approach to covering underrated gems is really quite awesome. Have you ever thought after covering a game called "Lord of the Rings: War in the North"?
Thank you mate I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I have a list with years and years worth of cideo ideas my friends and War in the North is on that list along with other LOTR games!
I just finished the game and I thought when he said I will come back for you. It meant there was another chapter of Joyce saving Beth. Then the game ended, and I thought maybe I have to play through it again and make different decisions with Paul to save Beth. Or even break the timeline somehow. The gameplay was alright. Not enough guns for my taste, finding the things to power up your powers felt a bit hard to find. Or your powers didn't last that long. The story was great in the game, the story from the TV show was alright. I agreed with your points.
Storming monarch and witnessing the temporal "thing" killing all the soldiers and it turns out to be hatch blew my mind the first time i played this lol
I loved this game! But I played it on xbox one, it's even better on xbox one x and for some reason the best looking version. It's hard to imagine a game to look better on console than it does on pc but this is one of those very rare cases (the smoothing, aliasing is so much better you'll always get a more clear image on console) and the bugs that just aren't there on the xbox version... only the "lights" bug I encountered at the very end, which was annoying, but ONE BUG? Just like Alan Wake it hardly needed fixing. I don't own a pc that can actually play a game like this but I saw the experience for others and I can see how some find it a mess, it's really not hard to understand. But on console, gameplay and storywise? Pure awesomeness! Without Alan Wake and Quantum Break, there wouldn't have been Control.... And because of control, chances are that we'll actually see another Alan Wake or een combined universes of all three games in episodes or series! This game just needed to exist!
Definitely going to buy this game on Steam during the summer sale but before buying I've to ask one question, if my internet is not working, would I still be able to play the game? because there are episodes that only works online.
@@MayorHairBear we can download them on xbox but not on steam unfortunately. I am still going to buy the game though, the combat looks pretty good. :) Edit: great vid BTW.
The game and the dlc work together and it's amazing I am so loving remedy I didn't know they made max payne until I did my research on alan wake I didn't like max payne 1 or 2 but I like alan wake, quantum break and control omg all 3 are so awesome can't wait to see all 3 games in the same game alan wake makes a cameo in control in the dlc which is why alan wake has all of a sudden gone str8 to xbox gamepass is this a sign that remedy is about or working on a cross over with Jack joyce, jesse and alan the signs all point to a crossover fans now want it on demand
My biggest with this game was the stupidity behind the powers being used for solving “puzzles”. Like, you could easily remove the boxes with your barehands or go through another door to enter the facility, but no….I somehow need to go back to 1984 to open a door from the inside or a trash can to show up. That broke the immersion for me. Other than that, this game was great!
Awesome game started playing it yesterday chose hardline I'm going to play it on pr when I complete it so I can see how the game is if I choose that option I'm on the start of act 4 already played it for quite a few hours
I actually downloaded this a couple days ago just off the fact that I enjoyed control so much and was looking for any games I've missed wild coincidence that I found this video... The game was okayish minus the boring gameplay untill I got to the tv show portion and I physically cringed .. I think the fact that they could've redirected the production money into making the gameplay more fun but didn't and just wanted use a different medium is a crutch to tell it's story just rubbed me the wrong way. I might give it a chance after all I payed for it but idk it's a 6 outta 10 at most currently
I feel like the problems with the game stemmed from a lack of confidence in thier idea to have a tv show attached. Its almost as if they didn't think many people would like the show so they made it detacthed and relatively unimportant to the main game. I feel they shoulda just gone balls out.
Yeah I do feel the same way. I feel at one point the tv aspect was more important to the main game but as time went on confidence or ideas may have wavered and the end result was what we ended up getting. I agree though, I would have loved to have seen the idea fully realised!
While Quantum Breaks time travel plot is great and has some level of consistency, it did not dethrone Legacy of Kain when it comes to the best time travel plot in video games.
29:56 - that is not nitpicking at all (for me) and you're no unjustified to highlight them as negatives. Because THAT is exactly why I cannot enjoy the Uncharted games. This heavy handed scripting of chase sequences in that game is so insulting to the player that it does not just take me away from enjoying it, it makes me hate the darn game. For Quantum Break, I was very surprised to see your footage show the EXACT same setpiece moments where I thought the game was just stupid (that pier scene was just horrendously designed) FORTUNATELY, there were just two instances in the entire game. Overall, I was disappointed with the game considering Remedy's pedigree up to that point (Max Payne 2 is still the best 3rd-person shooter I've ever played). However, Quantum Break being a "bad" game doesn't mean it's not worth your time. It's quite opposite actually. Yes, it may have failed in execution but the ambition and premise behind this work is truly unique. There's just nothing else like it. Yes, the TV series has so many cringe moments and the story in general is quite arbitrary especially in its logical rulesets - which prevented me from completing the game back in 2016 due to the large burden of suspending my disbelief. But when you just enjoy the ride for what it is, it is indeed worth your time. I would especially applaud the pacing of this game because this is one of those rare titles where no level is placed as filler to pad the game. Every episode, every act, offers a piece to the larger story puzzle and that is something to be commended. But in comparison to their other games, the writing is just way off and it shows how detached Sam Lake was from a writing standpoint. Also, the emails narrative thingy is so misplaced in this game that it sucks the momentum from the narrative too frequently.
The actual game play of the game sucks and is extremely generic and underdeveloped... The performance issues as well. But the story is magnificent. To me it seems like Remedy understood this as well since their next game Control has far superior combat/game play mechanics. If Remedy could take the refined game play of Control and implement into a Quantum Break v2, I think it'd be one of the best story focused games of all time.
I wouldn't say the gameplay sucks personally but it's not as strong as the story. I agree though, they learnt and applied the lessons from Quantum Break and Control is a blast to play. I'd love to see this game get a sequel with the lessons Remedy learnt because I think it could be one of if not their best game yet
MayorHairBear wow thank you for responding so fast! It’s been a long time since I’ve played this game, and I’ve forgotten its music. This game’s sound design is spectacular, and as such, the atmosphere is very immersive. Good video btw!
@@whisperedflame6952 No stress at all mate, I'm up and I like to chat with people who take the time out of there day to watch my videos :) 100% agree the sound design and soundtrack for the game is amazing. I would have touched on it in the video but I like to focus on the stories and gameplay :) Thank you, means a lot mate
The mistake they made with this game is making it xbox exclusive and the tv sections. Games have okay stories for the most part there are a few with outstanding stories but for the most part they are mediocre and if they were tv shows they wouldn't be watched. That's okay due to you playing as the characters so its more engrossing then a regular tv show and as a result you are entrenched in the story as the lead. The reason most game plots and writing wouldn't hold up is because most brilliant writers go for other avenues of media like movies or TV or even books. So that being said i don't think a tied in tv show with a video game will ever work. The same reason 99 percent of tie in licensed games are no good. Video game writing is just a huge step down to the crazy competition of writers for tv and movies so only the best usually rise above the rest. It's just my opinion but i think it makes a lot of sense.
this is not an underrated game.. this is a really bullshit game with terrible final boss fight and stupid ending which does not mean a shit.. waste of time really.
This is the ONLY video on RUclips who actually explains the story correctly. Good job sir!

Interesting story. Trivial gameplay
YES JUST YES
Quantum Break is by far remedies best game
Hmm, should I spoil myself on a game I may never play?
Why not right? 😂
Wish it was on playstation but that's Microsoft problem denying themselves my money
Love you jimmy 😆
It was average at best like most Microsoft first party games, Alan Wake was the much better game and is my favourite Remedy game.
Was that the soundtrack of the game in the background?
It has been a minute since I made this video but I'm almost 100% certain that it is the games soundtrack yes :)
I bought Xbox one cuz of this game
story was good but rly dont like third person shooters
Hmm i thought the game was decidedly average, easily the worst remedy game. The gunplay is terrible, the tv episodes underwhelming.
Sounds waaaaaayyyyy too long and complicated. Pass.
this is not an underrated game.. this is a really bullshit game with terrible final boss fight and stupid ending which does not mean a shit.. waste of time really.
This game sucked
Which game you consider as a good game?
