There are too many options in the gaming monitor world... How do you know which specs are right for you? I'm going to make a few videos talking about the various gaming monitors, the specs, and what is best for whom. 1440p all day. Most impressive upgrade I've made in the last couple of years.
Hopefully one day we'll get that CRT smoothness back.
Been years since I have watched your channel. You have become way more humble and laid back now. Appreciate the new show.
Checking out this channel after a while and had the same exact thoughts!
Coming from a 43" 1080p @60hz tv, I switched to a 40" 1440p @165hz monitor, and gaming feels like a new world to me. The increase in resolution, pixel density, and speed, causes every game, even old games like Warframe, to bring a new level of excitement and immersion. The change was in February, and the new feeling remains.
Oh boy, wait until you try 4k! The move from 1440p to 4k is big, providing you can drive the frame rates ofc.
@@HOkayson yeah it is, but not big enough to convince me to switch. I won't look in that direction for a while. My rig and high fps 1440p love one another, so I'll probably skip 4k altogether and jump to 8k with the 50 series in about five years.
@@CaptainSlapaDome that's fair enough, you've got the high refresh now which is imho the biggest thing. After that increasing resolution does look way better, but it's not a step change like high refresh is.
Once you go a 4k OLED with 120Hz, there's no going back to LCD, it's garbage. What I do personally is keep an LCD for work purposes, and use the OLED for strictly gaming, this way you don't put strain in the OLED to prevent burn in.
Don't OLED displays degrade with time though like the old CRTs did?
@@RedEverything All screens degrade over time, but yes OLEDs do get burn in/degrade more quickly than LCD, however there are a lot of measures these days to prevent that. But yea that's why I keep an LCD for work and OLED for gaming so my OLED will last years and years.
@@RedEverything they suffer from burn in, not degration. Just take the precautions and don't leave still images or units on for hours. (think taskbar!) And you're fine. To be specific it's colors from pixels getting "stuck" or burnt in to the screen. But the rest of the non burnt parts will still be 100%. It's not degration where with CRTs where the whole unit starts failing.
Ultrawide or nothing, no idea how people can play at 16:9
oof mirrors edge though
I wouldn't mind seeing the return of 16:10 aspect monitors. Those were a bit better for productivity-related tasks with the extra vertical height.
I used to run a 1920x1200 monitor back in the day a samsung syncmaster T240 or something it was like the rose black or something colour was really nice colour for a monitor and the aspect ratio just seemed mad because back then youtube would come up with Original quality as an option. Its weird i love ultrawide for the fov on the sides these days but i constantly feel like im missing out on height and on 16:9 it feels sort of like a middle point between the two. for me. I'm thinking VR is my next go to maybe I could replace my ultrawide use with that idk
have you used a G9 yet?
I'd say they're better period
Just use the 32:10 monitors. They're ultrawide but you don't lose the verticle height by going ultrawide. Really nice. (course its not OLED nor hdr really useful, but for everything else it's good)
If it's not 21:9 or 32:9 I wouldn't even buy it.
I like this setup. I run 3 1440p ips panels at 144hz, which I have found to be the sweetspot between refresh rate and quality. I have them all mounted on monitor arms, and the middle one sits about 32 inches from my face
Been rocking a refurb 32'' 1440p 165hz Acer Predator for a few years now. It's perfect and I can't find anything else that has specs better for the price since.
Basically anything ultrawide....16:9 is horrible.
Its 2022 and I'm still rocking my Sony GDM-FW900 I bought over 10 years ago 1440p crt.
I have been looking for one for a long time... That's less than $3000
1440p is all I need!
How did you know I'm looking at monitors?!
We all are...
I’m running an Alienware 3420DW 3440x1440p 120hz monitor with exceptional colour quality and accuracy. I mainly game but also a little photo editing and soon want to get into basic video editing of home movies for fun 🥰👍. For me the colour quality and wide aspect made me replay some old games again and with the curved screen it feels more exciting and immersive 🥰🤯😇. In addition using an external Sound Blaster X7 audio card with my Senheisser X58 Jubilees added more immersion to my gaming experience.
Upgraded from a 60hz 1080p monitor to a 1440p display a couple years ago. Worth every penny!
lol I've been at 1440p for over 8 years now...

Back in 2020 I picked up a Monoprice 27” Zero-G Curved Monitor during a Black Friday sale for $190. I'm pretty sure it's a rebranded VIOTEK GNV27DB. It’s 1440p, 144hz and has FreeSync support. It's a VA panel and the inclusion of HDR 400 seems more like a marketing gimmick than a usable feature but overall, I have been very pleased with it. I didn't set out in an attempt to buy the best monitor available. I just wanted the best monitor I could afford, and it has met all of my expectations.
I got an HP X27Q for $240. It has 1440p, IPS, 165hz, freesync and gsync, hdmi, DisplayPort, and petty good color accuracy.
Just to be clear. You're saying if the game I'm playing runs at a lower fps than the the monitors' maximum refresh rate, I should keep the free sync features off?
Very yes. Basically, keep it off unless you are experiencing screen tearing
@@wardhale ok, hear that, it does confuse me to hear it. I have a m28u, it's 144hz monitor. I use it on the series x to take advantage of a possible 120 fps. From what I understand, I have the AMD Freesync Premium Pro enabled to compensate for "low frame rates". I thought, well idk what I thought, from everything else I've heard, i get the impression having it on helps and if the frames are already up the snuff, if shouldn't hurt right?
Honestly after playing, currently I'm on my 4K OLED tv with my PC, but after playing on that, playing a 4K DSC 144 hz gsync IPS panel from asus, and playing at 2K 120 on a benq, and then going for a 1080p, curved 240hz VA monitor from samsung.....
I'll say this.
YOU CANNOT BEAT SUPER FAST PC GAMING. SIMPLY. YOU CANNOT. 200+FPS GAMING IS UNREAL. But...... Many modern games can't hit that, like even on a RTX 4080, you'll be just shy of 180 fps at 1080p in Resident Evil 4 remake...... Dead Space remake was another one that struggled to go super fast. Even on big time hardware.
I'll I have is a 2080super. So... The 2k or even 1080 super high framerate monitors I think are the way to go.
There's exceptions of course. I mean.... When I plug my PC into my glorious OLED 4K tv..... GOOOOOODDDDDDDD DAMN! The image quality of OLEDs compared to IPS and VA monitors. Huge, immersive open world beautiful games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Cyberpunk, It's strikingly better. But...... You know. Like I said. 200+ in the games I really like to play (shooters and action games)..... It's hard to beat.
I appreciate the use of Mirror's Edge here. Love that game, too bad the settings are kinda clunky.
I hope you find it CRT pc monitor, 🙂. It is very good.
I love my ultrawide not only for games, but because 21:9 is the native aspect of most movies. I've got the Nixeus EDG 34 with 3400 x 1440 at 144hz. You can get one right now for only $550 which is a steal.
Agreed, 3440x1440 or 5120x1440 is the best experience, I can't imagine even playing at 16:9 ever again.
So are you telling me I should turn off G-SYNC in the NVIDIA control panel?
Turn it off
If you have a high Hz monitor, yes... Turn it off.
There is literally no reason to turn it off......
What I'd like to see eventually for a new monitor would be QD-OLED 4K 240Hz 32" flat monitor. Samsung already has QD-OLED and their LCD 4K 240Hz now to see the top tier premium one would be amazing!. With DP 2.0 definitely, can even do dual-spec display so it works 1080p 1000Hz as well. Strobing too. Really that would be the so called 'holy grail' monitor.
Agreed on all aspects, except I'd take something in the 35" range if possible. Still 16:9, or 16:10 if I'm really allowed to choose! 32" is just a tad too small for 4k imho, after having one for a while now.
@@HOkayson No idea why you people buy 16:9 monitors when 21:9 and 32:9 ones exist.....makes no sense.
@@drunkhusband6257 I tried a 21:9 curved monitor & returned it after a few days, it felt like the top half of my screen was missing rather than the screen feeling wider. Since then I've avoided all curved & super wide screens. It's a shame because the new QD-OLEDs look amazing, they're just the wrong shape 😕
@@HOkayson That literally makes no sense, its the same height as a 27" 16:9 monitor, you aren't missing any screen.
@@drunkhusband6257 it felt like having a larger size screen, but with the top part missing. I'm much happier with a 32" 16:9 4k screen, much more screen real estate than the fake 21:9 "4k"
Great video really entertaining to watch. Question what game are you playing at 9:52? I think it’s quake but not sure thanks.
Yeah not bad at all. I have an AOC 32" 1440p and 55" 4K. Defintely prefer 32" 1440p for gaming. The TV has alot more detail if doing stuff like watching 4K youtube.
Is this LowFi Nintendo-music? I like it.
It's the stuff I make:

LG CX 55 is the sweet spot
I wish there where 30 inch 1440p monitors for gaming
i still really like 1600x1200 4:3 for work stuff, things just fit better :)
Also, i'm wondering what to get to replace my old faded 1920x1080 triple monitor setup, what is a good cheap option and faster than 60Hz?
@Teksyndicate FAstest video to sell me a product. less than 2 hours after watching I got one. Mahalo
1080p 144hz Asus the OG one lol
5900x and a gtx 1080
I'm perfectly fine on 1080
I don't need anymore
I miss my 1024x768 100hz CRT
The best aspect ratio is 16x10 ... But those are only really available in productivity monitors and they are fewer and farther between...
The masses fell for the marketing hype of "full hd" and we all pay more for less pixels now... There really was a conspiracy with this intent... The companies won
I don't understand the appeal of ultrawides, personally. I used one for a couple of hours once and came away feeling just as ambivalent about them. I'm waiting and hoping for the return of 16:10 monitors. I'd love to have one that was ~35" 4k 120Hz.
Because ultrawide either 3440x1440 or 5120x1440 is the best gaming experience available.
Glorious sexy hair lol, and nice video, yep.. 1440p 27'' flat 144hz its the greatest spot in the last 3 years.
why the fuck am i not seein your videos on my feed?
im subbd and hav teh damn bell
Been using monitors since the early 80's. Currently using an LG OLED C1 48"
By far the best screen I ever owned.
Been using it almost 24/7 for the past 18 months working from home and gaming.
NEVER going back to anything inferior to OLED.
When gaming (mostly FPS games) I use a custom resolution of 3840x1440.
Yes, at first I also thought 48" was too large to have on a desk, but I have a very deep desk and I quickly got used to it. Now I can't even think of ever getting anything smaller than a 40" monitor.
My previous 1440p 144Hz gaming monitor is mostly gathering dust.
I also don't want 4K on a monitor smaller than 40"
My answer to the question: OLED or a similar technology with which every pixel gets its own light-source. I even would be willing to downgrade the resolution for it. I am 100% done with backlight-bleeding and poor blacks and poor color accuracy. Other than that, there is no ideal resolution because 1440p is the ideal for gaming, 5k is the ideal for productivity so ideally you want both. I have a 144 Hz monitor and I can tell with confidence that for me a higher RR would be useful, however I do think it is rather wasteful that in practice that 144 Hz is even used when you watch a video so smarter software would help, especially if you go to for example 240 Hz? I can't choose between IPS and VA, with VA I get annoyed by the lesser color-accuracy, with IPS I get annoyed by the absence of 'black' and there seems to be more glowing-issues (backlight bleeding at the edge, most visible at the top) with IPS which becomes visible on a 'black' background.
One last nitpicking point: I strongly dislike OSD's sticking around for way too long and OSD's displaying useless messages like which port is being used. I connected it, I can just look in the terminal to find out which port it is, please don't bother me after turning on my monitor (if I take a 5-15 minutes break but don't suspend my PC). There really is a problem with many useless and bloated OSD's these days, also for example for many video-interfaces, audio-volume interfaces etc
4:22 ghosting !!! 144hz make no sence 👀
not a fan of curved monitors still
Me neither but I think he made a strong case for them, almost made me curious.
ritch color this monitor, but i bought the LG C2
6:00 game name ?
quick answer : LG OLED B or C line
The idea of using a curved screen for any game that isn't first-person makes me sick. I'd never buy one. As someone who loves to emulate 2D retro games with the most advanced CRT shader available, I'd definitely go for a 4K adaptive-sync display. 1440p is perfect for those who don't care much about the simulated CRT look. Btw, 16:9 ftw.
I knew liked 'em long and curved! Lol ;)
Carl Sagan 🤘🏼
Next you will be detailing your hair routine
As little product or junk as possible
First game name?
The 2d cyberpunk game is awesome.
Anno: mutationem
Step one buy a Samsung CRG9 step 2 have your mind blown!!!
Curved monitor 🤮
What is this game that he was playing that is a shooter game
The old one? It's a quake mod called arcane dimensions... And it's probably the best fps ever
Moving again wow.
Kinda done with America... Just need a way out
@@teksyndicate Don't you live in Portland? Is it really constant protests bordering on riots?
FALD; FALD is the perfect specs, edge leds suck. 99% of monitors are poop

1440p on the less inches monitor possible! So you achieve more pixels per inch! Therefore better image quality! And it must be at 60hz otherwise you will need stronger graphic cards to be able to run more than 60hz! (i haven't seen the video yet but that's my veredict, i wonder if you wil get to the same conclusion. So ideally 1440p 60hz (curved if possible but only curved is samsung and thats for 27inch and i don't like the image of that, so i just went Dell myself 1440p 60hz 24inch (and if i could find 22inch i d prefer... and if i could find 20inch i would prefer, but everyone is selling large screens now and is hard to find even a 24inch)
