Thanks Ian!! I've been wanting to learn how to write more like a native. I'd definitely be interested in a part 2!
I'm also wondering about the hardware and software used for the handwriting part, it looked super nice!

I’m so excited about this video. I now understand I received crazy intense calligraphy classes from grade 2 to 4 (I just didn’t know that was happening), and I say crazy because everybody praises my handwriting to a weird extent and that was the case after I submitted each homework in Korean level 1. I guess as a child I developed good eye-hand coordination, I can’t draw but apparently I can write. My problem? I can’t understand almost nobody’s handwriting. My brain exploded every time someone wrote something and I couldn’t read it but neither the person who wrote it. Till this day I don’t know how my husband can’t read most of his own handwriting. I do write often for quick notes because I find it faster than typing, I do type fast too (nuns in high school). I was planning to buy a book or something on korean handwriting just to understand it.

I have this same issue, I can not understand peoples handwriting. The problem is I can’t understand my own writing. I stop writing script a long time ago because I couldn’t read my notes in school and my print was confusing half the time. I’ve taken to writing in block letters so I can understand my language notes. I have the same problem with Hangul hand writing.

Thank you for taking my suggestion and making this video. I would definitely love to see more of these. It's a huge adjustment to go from reading type fonts to handwriting. It's almost like learning a whole other alphabet. There are so few resources out there for this content, so please, please, please keep the videos coming! 🫰

슬아씨는 'ㅍ'를 쓸면 신기해요. It reminds me of a cursive 'L'. I love this video, as someone with real messy written English, it's good to learn how I can be just as much of a mess in Korean haha

I think my handwriting looks like a font. Even in English, my handwirting looks... typed. So I guess it's just my thing lol but this is really insightful especially when trying to read handwritten notes.

Thanks for the video Ian! This is something I've been trying to work on for a while now.
4:24 When you write ㅊ like this is kind of looks like a Hiragana え(eh).
I'd love to see another video like this in the future. I especially have a hard time with writing the double consonants like ㅃ quickly.

Talk To Me in Korean's "Hangeul Master" book has a great chapter on Korean handwriting

Great content. Very helpful considering I couldn't understand much of the handwriting on first glance. Is there a term in Korean for this style of handwriting?
It feels very similar to the split in English between print and cursive. What's interesting is that I rarely see anyone write in cursive in English where this feels like it's pretty standard for Korean.

Yes and no. If you want to find fonts that look like this, they're usually named with some sort of 손글씨체 or "handwritten character" font. Korean speakers call writing like this 날려쓰기, which is a combination of 날리다 (roughly: to make something fly/fly away) and 쓰다, to write. It's not quite as standardized and compartmentalized as English print and cursive.
Then you've got 서예 which is a complex system of calligraphy styles used in Korean (which is suuuuuuper interesting and something I want to pursue someday if I ever have free time again.)

I didnt realize the vowels yet, but somehow i have seen it a lot and read it easily. However a few days ago I saw my 이모 write very fast at work, with words I didnt really know, and man was it a mess hahaha the ㅎ looked like a ㄹ because how fast it was written. 환 looked like 랑.. however my husband was able to help and translate it for me 😅
The older the generation the harder it is to read their handwriting for sure (just as in our own language)

I just came here looking for Jeremy's ㄱ/ㄲ/ㅋ/triple consonants video and learned of the fate of thie channel.
You need to ask him to republish that. It's a crime. Best video for Korean learning of all time and been referencing it to new learners for years.

I'm sorry you can't find the video you're looking for, I'm sure it was a banger. Like I explained in the first video I made after things changed, I didn't delete any content and didn't know any content was going to be deleted. The rebrand came specifically from the fact that there was nothing left of the previous channel, and me feeling that it would be pretty disingenuous to "revive" it (which wouldn't be possible - my experiences are different and my outlook is different in a lot of ways).
If you'd like me to touch on any topics specifically, send me an email at (ian (at) koreanpatch (dot) co) and we can chat. I'd be more than happy to make my own version of any content that you miss from the previous channel. Hope your Korean learning is going well!
