Well put. This is a very cool lens with very very unique character. Keep in mind that it is just a worldly object. There is nothing wrong with just buying it if falls within your personal budget and you can buy it without anxiety. If I buy equipment thinking that the object will make me feel better about myself, I will definitely get buyers remorse. No piece of equipment can fill us with the soulful satisfaction that we are better because of it.
A very balanced and sober perspective. I am wowed by this lens when used properly, and the focusing is nailed, but I know it would never become my go to lens if I owned one. My 50mm Summilux ASPH, which I have owned for over ten years, keeps me very happy.
I like your mentioning of “higher stake situation”. Obviously the probability of getting a picture to my satisfaction is not that high using this lens especially on a M camera, so I usually use it on my SL-2.
Hi Jeremy, If you like the Noctilux, you should also like the Voigtlander 50 mm Heliar Classic f/1.5 SC. I have tested it on M240 for color and M10-M for b&w. Good value in my opinion.
Great video Jeremy. I just got the V4 F1 and it's close to impossible to get accurate focus with the rangefinder. However, most of the time non-photographers don't zoom in to see if the focus is tack sharp on the eye and I found that it's the first lens where my non photographer friends and family have a wow reaction to how a photo looks. That being said, I think my summilux will still get way more use.
About 10 years ago I had a f1.0 Noctilux for a while, loved it but sold it for the reasons you give, plus I got more than double back what I paid for it, so it was by far my cheapest lens ever.
@@jeremy-t It could have been even better - I bought it in 2007 for £1000 then sold it for £2500. If I'd kept it a little longer it might have fetched £8k...
Cool video. Always fun to discover other RUclipsrs that make content around Leica and photography. Would be honoured if you would check out the video I did about the Noctilux 0.95. Cheers!

That’s awesome.. Yes the SL solves all those focus problems!

Yes! The F1 is a beautiful lens.. The summilux too, in a different way.

Ahh yes. Vintage glass, they just get more and more expensive!
What a refreshing review. Thank you. I subscribed and smashed the bell.
Thank you :)

Common sense and on the internet too :) ps I went for the Voitlander .
Haha! Nice! How are you liking it?
What's exactly the version of Summilux that you own? Why didn't you choose asph?
Hey! I owned both the v2 and the ASPH. They’re both really nice in different ways!
