Great video! And great channel! I went down to London today and bought an M6 today (partly) because of your videos, bought a 28mm lens from Red Dot Cameras because of your videos and shot my first roll at the Barbican Estate because of your videos! So well done, you’re both an influencer and a cause of my new bank balance! Keep up the good work! 😊
Ahhhh! What a legend. So good to read this comment. Jealous of your day! I remember how it made me feel. Happy for you matey. Send me the snaps once you have processed them! Would love to see! @jamie.dop
Nice video. I have the two other Noctilux-M 50 lenses (f/1.0 v.4 and f/1.2 re-issue; they render differently enough to justify keeping both of them), and a Summilux-M 50 mm f//1.4 II (a terrific lens), but hope to pickup a pre-owned Noctilux-M 50 mm f/0.95 next year (after I get a 21 mm f/3.4, Summicron 50, and APO-Summicron 50). I also picked up a pre-owned Noctilux-M 75 mm f/1.25 (absolutely stunning lens) and am comparing it to the much lighter and more compact Voigtländer Nokton 75 mm f/1.5 (so far, the latter lens is very good and both will be keepers). With Noctilux lenses wide open, the sharpness falls off from the center pretty severely. With portraits at f/0.95, do you tend to focus on an eye and keep the face pretty much centered, focus an eye on center and recompose with the subject’s face off center (and accept the focus fall off), or.focus on an eye with the face off center?
Mate that shot at the end with the M6 and Noctilux on the turntable….👌😭. I think it’s a very specific case that needs the Nocti…….night portraits. If you get the chance to try it again..please please do some portraits with lights in the background, get those boke balls going!!
That’s like saying your first car was a Ferrari! What a purchase! Do you still shoot it often? Have you found it has a place in photography or all round use? Also do you ever shoot it stopped down?
Yes, it is almost like that. I got with a new leica m10p. A great combo. This is a lens that I some times take out and shoot with at special occasions but a lot of the time it feels too heavy for a walk-around-lens. Then I use the summilux instead. I almost never shoot lenses stopped down. Except for when I shoot with film.
@@MKWHD summilux as a backup! Haha mental. Two of the most beautiful lenses. I want to mount the noctilux onto our RED Helium camera and see how it holds up too! Leica glass just has something about it!
Really? I’m thinking of dropping to the Summilux instead. Closer focus, way lighter and far more compact. It’s a shame as I love that lens and it bring me so much joy but I find it’s too niche and impractical for my work. What do you predominantly shoot with it?
The small detail when you dropped the music to emphasize the clicking sounds are what I enjoy about your videos so much. Love the channel, keep creating!
Cool video! Loved seeing some results of this lens on film. I got the opportunity to test it out on a digital M(11) and really loved the results. The lens is sharp, but it has a glow to it as well and like you said, a really unique rendering. How do you like the focusing? I used the EVF a lot, just to be sure at 0.95. M11! The one Leica I would still love to try!! I shot it on the Sl2 and SL3 and it was so much easier to focus than a rangefinder. I love shooting film but when wanting to see a lenses full performance you must throw it on a digital body. And as you said, EVF is twice as accurate when shooting so shallow! J
@@jamie.dop_ indeed, the punch-to-zoom with the joystick on the SL and its EVF makes Noctilux focusing effortless. On my M6, I like the 35 Cron. At F2 I manage to get things in focus (most of the time). When it gets shallower than that, hit or miss.
@@GunstonGun I had so much fun with that lens. It is truly one of a kind and I’ll miss it. But for use on my M6 it just wasn’t ideal. The Summilux is a better fit and also a beautiful lens! J

So glad you made it to the Burtynsky exhibition...... immense on so many levels!!!!
I know! Blown away. To have prints that big and be able to walk right up to it. So beautiful. Had to buy the book! Also thanks for commenting :) J
Every time you put the lens down on a railing I got supremely anxious.
I was waiting for that first comment! Haha, I know it puts people on edge… including myself! High risk! J

Perfect… needing a video ideas. M6 and Noctilux at night could be a gooden! Maybe try that blue hour vibe! It’s on the cards now. Thanks, J
It is fantastic. That lens was the first one I bought when going into the Leica brand.

Your photos came out looking great.
Thank you! I would have liked to have shot it nearer the 0.95 but light was an issue. Appreciate the comment. J
