If Elanga is a statement signing, it's a statement that we aren't being ambitious enough. I looked at his player ratings (Nottingham Post) for last season and he had about 8 games where he shone (8.0 -8.5) but his median score was a modest 6.5. He's a good player but there were frequent comments about his poor decision making and spurning of goal scoring opportunities. We need someone who is going to be effective at Champions league level (which we are aiming at). I don't think he is the answer. I'm happy for Mitchell to show his judgment on this one. In addition, I'm not as negative as some about DCL. He is a quality player. Perhaps Bunce can help him maintain his fitness. In our attacking style he would see much more of the ball. He could be a very shrewd buy.
Wise words from John, solid knowledge and good judgement. Let’s. Hope that the board at Newcastles have the same nous. His mention of Joe Harvey brought back some memories of my childhood, Joe had a paper shop on the West Road where we go and buy sweets before school. He would always say hello and smile. He also assisted in the opening of our boxing club when we relocated. Genuine bloke.

Eddie's recruitment has been excellent since he arrived so will be difficult for Mitchell especially with the clock ticking. Villa have already spent £140million and done their recruitment. I'm still gutted we sold Anderson - Eales really messed up.
For the money, Mbuemo would be a solid dependable signing. That also gives some £ room to go for a back up striker such as Jonathan David.
Have you noticed PSR is bringing player valuations down and also lowered salaries. Last thing we want to do is buy players who are already on a high salary.
Vitor Roque is available from Barcelona for £40m apparently. Perfect Wilson successor?
Yes he has injuey record. But Smith Rowe from Arsenal would be a quality signing can also play in a number of positions
Bloody hell dan James of Leeds (and the championship). Some of our fans are mad. Would struggle to get in Sunderland’s team.
Can't say much for Nico Gonzalez IRL but he has come up trumps repeatedly for me in my Newcastle FM24 save, pace, passsing, dribbling, aerial ability, finishing, this guy is the whole package. Star right winger and excellent centre forward all in one package.

I hate this expression, ‘marquee signing’. I don’t want a stand out signing, I want the team strengthened appropriately in the correct areas. One ‘big’ signing doesn’t cut it. We need a more effective, strategic approach than that.
I think Paul Mitchell will make a statement of intent in the next few weeks, we always seem to go through turbulence don't we, well there isn't always turbulence, good news coming 😉

You don't appoint a DOF then within a few days the trouble starts already!
There maybe a vaunted truce being bandied about but that does not mean the war is over.
Since the inception of the DOF into football how many of these partnerships work where the former is appointed over the latter's head, very few.
This arrangement only works when the DOF appoints his own Head Coach upon his inception into the job.
Newcastle have done the entirely wrong thing here by appointing a DOF over the head of a manager who has worked for himself for 15 years.
Howe is never going to respond to what Mitchell says over an extended period of time and will walk out if he isn't already half wat out the door!
All your wishing and hoping along with the Morecambe & Wise comparisons is not going to make this work because of the way it has been forged.
Talking about stability, we will never get that at Newcastle because journalists like yourselves have stirred the pot for years on end adding to all of the dramas.
Add to the fact the illusion that this club was now being run sensibly being blown out of the water this summer then you cannot blame the fans for thinking here we go again!
