  • Hello and welcome to The Everything is Black & White Podcast.
    Andrew Musgrove is here to discuss the latest with Marc Guehi.
    Newcastle United wanted the Crystal Palace defender but as of yet have been unable to agree a fee - is it time to walk away? If so, who are the alternatives?

    We literally had to sell 2 potentially great players on 30th of June just before the deadline as they didn't know if we were going to pass psr. Not to mention trying to flog Gordon 😂

    NUFC should have walked away after the third attempt, £40/£45 m is about right for Guehi, a Defender, he has only had marginal success during Euro’s, I particularly would not chase this player, one, his height is questionable, two, it is always a gambol, for him to fit in, work as planned following Howe’s system, Parish’s greed in order for NUFC to pay the sell on fee is obscene. For a player who is not on Super Stay earnings. I understand the window is closing soon, with Schar receiving a red card NUFC could be panicking to get someone through the door, but what message is NUFC sending out to other clubs for the future?

    I don’t like the price of Guehi, but he is a full England international and has premier league experience. We need someone to hit the ground running. He fits the bill and is a current captain. Defence was a problem last year, we need to strengthen there.

  • @levstone415
    @levstone415 26 дней назад +2

    Player prices have crashed this summer due to PSR. Toxic 6 aren't interested and those clubs have more revenue and so can afford to take a gamble and buy an expensive player. If we spend 65 million we are at risk - one injury and I don't think he's value will go up. We are risking all our budget.

  • @MichaelBurge-pj9kn
    @MichaelBurge-pj9kn 26 дней назад +2

    We’ve left everything too late, like PSR. Gueli never worth £65 million. Could have got a top class European centre back for half the price early in the transfer window, and bedded him in. We’ll be loaded next summer (2025) because Isak, Bruno, Gordon, Botman and Tonali will be gone, so will Eddie. Could have had Thiaw and Gruda for £55.

    • @CHAMUNGER

  • @AllyBeee1
    @AllyBeee1 26 дней назад +1

    the price is ridiculous, what kind of precedent does it set for the way Mitchell negotiates if we overpay on the first transfer. We need both positions, let Mitchell do what he can do go into Europe and sign a top class RCB & a RW. We have wasted far too much time on 1 player. It is embarrassing that we have been haggling and only just reached close to the price they want now, 4 bids is madness. Go for Diomande, Silva, Thiaw. If we absolutely have to then get Chalobah and we add to the squad and then we go back in the market next summer for better. We have to sign those 2 positions if we want to compete. I just don't think Guehi at club level is that good, he was injured a fair bit last season. England was a very defensive team, a defenders dream, the pace was slow, it's a lot easier to defend than the fast pace of the PL, he was left for dust when we played Spain.

  • @Marsbar2024

    With Anderson off, it's pointless trying for Guehi. We've wasted far too much time.

  • @davidbudd3563
    @davidbudd3563 26 дней назад +1

    Palace fan here. Have you ever considered the possibility that Guehi isn’t that bothered or keen to join your club? You’ve based all your views on him wanting to join Newcastle on a comment about the atmosphere at SJP. 🤷‍♂️ lots of players make nice comments about playing at other grounds. My personal view is that he is NOT ‘keen’ to join Newcastle. He knows he’s only 24. He can sit tight at Palace for another season and get a big four club move next summer. And that WON’T be Newcastle. And now we have sold Anderson I assure you there is ZERO chance of us selling Guehi. ZERO. Even if you come up with £70m.

  • @AlanBrownPhotography
    @AlanBrownPhotography 26 дней назад

    I offer a slightly different and hopeful view. First off, I fully trust Eddie and his recruitment team - they are best in class and how fans can question decisions is beyond me.
    On the Guehi deal - with silence from the Newcastle end I wonder if a fee has already been agreed but the deal awaiting a replacement confirmed. That would explain Parish's posturing to the Palace fans.
    If we do go for an alternative, I would hope we target a CB that fits what Eddie is looking for, is young, and has proven premiership experience. Bringing in players from another league is a risk we don't need at this point. You mentioned Anthony, but what about the likes of Diego Carlos who didn't cut it at Villa?
    I rather we maintain focus on a CB and wait on RW if needed. We were the 3rd highest goal scores last season, and that was with lengthy injuries to Barnes, Isak, Wilson & Murphy. Tose that remained fit were run into the ground. Yes, it would be nice if we upgrade with a new shiny RW that would guarantee goals but I feel if we have a fit squad we'll do OK in the coming season.

    Palace don't have to sell, but unless they offer Guehi a new contract (apparently with superstar wages - which I don't believe they will pay) then they will lose this big payday as he contract winds down. I think they will sign for this reason alone.

    Get it done. Whoever we chase now there will be a premium, these negotiations have been handled terribly. How can our negotiators not know the level to get the deal done after multiple bids. Fundamental error. Your comments about us being meticulous are way off the mark. We’ve had a year of planning and have done nothing that’s failure.

    At £55m and £5m add ons, we shouldn't have even entered discussions. Its too much of our very restricted spending allowance on a position we're not £60m desperate in.
    Remember when Isak and Wilson were both fit and competing with each other and felt they had to score each game to show they were the best? ...well that's what we miss when Wilson is out injured. He is injured too often for too long and we need to replace the competition with guaranteed fitness and goals. Also need right wing.
    Both of these positions would be money better spent than another CB.
    At this stage in our progress, 60/70m spent needs to bring guaranteed goals & assists to the squad.
    Also, if we cave in to Palace's price it sets a trend for future negotiations that clubs should just hold out and we'll cave in if they stay strong.
