I’m trying to put my 79 back together. I took everything off (springs, brackets, rear end, etc) to clean and paint the underside. I’m ordering new leaf springs and not sure what’s the best way to mount it along with the leaf springs. I see you had the rear end on jack stands. The guy that checked all my work on the differential suggested installing the front of the springs, attach the rear end to the springs, lifting the rear end until I can attach the rear shackles. You didn’t show the process. What is your suggestion for what I’m trying to do? I hope I explained it clearly

I placed a jack stand under the frame, then jacked up the axle and place another jack stand under that to get the jack out of the way. Once that was up I unbolted the leaf spring. jacking up the axle takes the load off the spring making it way easier to remove. Then the new goes on the same way. Once the new one is bolted up at the ends, lower the axle so the spring seats in the 4 bolts all the way then tighten those up. Hope I answered your question lol.

Yes you did thank you! I just need to modify the process because unlike your situation, I don’t have anything installed. Correct anything I may get wrong, I would put axle on jacks high enough to not make contact with springs until they’re bolted up. Then lower the axle on the jack until they seat on the springs?
