@clinteastwood6875 this is the correct answer. They had stayed at his place originally, and he was the one who had come in to wake everyone up at their Jamaica Queens place, that morning

5:55 Legend. Cliff Burton will always be my inspiration for bass guitar. I wanna be as wild as he was but no better. He was truly a legend on bass I don’t give a fuck what anyone says otherwise. 3:09 It’s crazy to think that these two dorks would form the biggest heavy metal band ever, write some of the most groundbreaking and innovative metal songs ever made, and completely change rock music forever.
Hardly groundbreaking. Thrash bands were ten a penny in the 80s, and were more complex songwriters than Metallica. They did have a sense of scope and an ability to fuse melody to the aggression that was unmatched though.
James is the fucking man. Most bands would cancel the whole tour if the frontman nearly burns to death, but James gets a temporary replacement and fucking continues the tour.
The one thing I can't dispute about Metallica is their dedication to their fans, dedpite what people might say. Can't say I care for their concert prices though
Something is missing... What about the fights, the rehab, the therapy? And Jason leaving then getting Robert Trujillo as new bass player? Some of the film is showing twice.
I saw the Metallica/Guns tour in Las Cruces NM in 92. It was a trip to hear James sing without playing guitar. His vocals were flawless. John Marshall was loving it up on stage. That was the best show I have ever seen Metallica do and I've been going to Metallica shows since Ride the Lightning. A couple months later I went to El Paso TX to see Ozzy, Alice in Chains and Sepultura. 1992 seemed to be the year for lead singers getting injuries on tour. When Alice in Chains hit the stage, Layne Staley was pushed out in a wheelchair with a broken leg. They put on a badass show too. 1992 was a great year for metal shows.
“They were never a drug band” hahaha umm are you forgetting Lars’s huge coke addiction? Kirk also had a thing for coke in the damage inc tour(if I’m not mistaken), and Lars did a shit ton more other drugs, I remember Sebastian Bach told a crazy quaalude story about Lars. Pretty much james was the only one about alcohol.
I was fortunate to see them in their glory days… it was the early 90s. My memory is foggy… but Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Faith No More played the citrus bowl in Orlando, and I had the second to the worst seats in the house at the other end of the stadium, and Pat Travers was sitting right next to me.. the concert was freaking awesome It may have been the best one I’ve ever seen and I’ve been to over 100 concerts I’m 60 years old But that concert was special it really was
I’ve always loved that scene with Spinal Tap complaining about the band aping Smell the Glove - best part is that James & Kirk are more jazzed about meeting Tap.
"Ride The Lightning quickly went gold." If by quickly you mean after 3 years. and it might not have even gotten there without the momentum of Master Of Puppets and the Ozzy tour. We were lucky on the 1992 tour: our show in the Buffalo NY area went off pretty much without a hangup. A food fight broke out and lasted at least a half hour but both bands ripped. Still have my stub from that show: $29.50 with all service charges & taxes incl for decent seats. When I saw them in 2017 in NJ, I paid $100 for nosebleeders. Still a great show tho, their stage setup was gigantic.
Every one of us that watched James toss that copy of KEA into the pit wished we could’ve caught it ourselves before it got demolished when we first watched Cliff ‘Em All.
