Good Move Greg, it is definitely time to be heading North. We will most likely not make it to our scheduled departure date of the 30th if the temps hoover around the 90s for too long we are out of here too.

Thank you guys for being so transparent, although with your budget, we couldn't afford your lifestyle. LOL We do have two acres that we keep our gas motorhome on and we live in a Mother-n-law quarter's since Covid......but we decided that instead of building the cabin we bought in with our daughter and wouldn't have to worry about our home being taken care of while we are out and about. We have our on little apartment that is just right for us.

Hi Janice & Larry, great to hear you made it to Boulder Beach already. I have a favor to ask if you are still at Boulder and Larry is out walking around the campground. We have two reservations there next month one is in site 57 for a few days and then we move to site 83. My question is do those either of those two sites get shaded out by the trees during mid afternoon? We are planning to do a portable solar panel test there and just curious if our actual RV site and roof top solar will be in the sun or shade most of the day. Not a big deal either way but just curious.
We enjoyed both of the visits with you two and we very much enjoyed finishing off that pie you sent us home with (hopefully Larry forgave us for taking his favorite blueberry pie with us :-)

Sorry you gave up the RV plans, many folks do it for much less but we just have not experienced it that way, partly my fault but you just never know exactly how things will work out in this or any lifestyle. The heat here in the summer is definitely a factor and if your wife does not like it HOT, then you certainly made the right decision. Thanks for watching the video and your comment is exactly the input we hope lots of folks have as well. We all do it differently

Hi Bob & Pearl, We love our home and the weather in Oregon but miss our kids more. We had this house built and bought the lot next to it for more space along with the house backed up to the BLM with all the wildlife, we really do love it, but last week we put it up for sale and the second person that came and looked at it made us a offer and we accepted it. We will be back full time in the motorhome in May and probably will be looking at property in the Tennessee area closer to our kids and grandkids. I’ve been looking for a while in Arizona but my wife isn’t really on board with it….lol 😆 it might be something I will do on my own as my mental retreat escape from reality timeout 😊 I love the traveling around in my motorhome and not having a home base but my wife not so much, I think it’s a security thing. Hope our roads cross again , stay safe and happy adventures.

Hey Bob and Pearl! Love your videos! We are getting ready to retire and travel to AZ this coming fall. We will keep our properties in WI until we find another place to home base further south where there is no snow. We have questions about preparing your stationary home when you leave for months. Do you turn off the water completely? Or do you just turn off the refrigerator water and hot water heater? Do you need to drain the water heater? Do you have cameras all around for security? Do you have someone go in and check things? I would be interested in a video about this topic if you are looking for a topic. Have a great summer!

    • @JustPassingThru
      @JustPassingThru  Год назад +1

Hi Colleen, that would be a good idea on the video but so you dont have to wait for the video, here are a couple of points we take care of.
      1. We do have many cameras inside and outside the house. They are so cheap and good quality with instant email alerts on noises, People walking into yard, cars driving in driveway etc and it is all saved on the cloud so that we can really stay in touch with what is going on back home which really gives us a comfort level that everything is fine.
      2. We turn off the water to the inside of the house and the shop but leave it on for the drip system to keep the cactus alive.
      3. We turn off the hot water gas line but do not drain it. We did drain it the first year but didn't last year.
      4. We put a container of water (about a quart) in each room as it gets so hot here with humidity around 5%-10% it keeps things from drying out
      5. We put saran wrap over the toilet bowls and a small rubber mat over the sink and shower drains as the water can evaporate out potentially allowing a sewer odor into the house if that happens.
      6. We leave all utilities turned on other than Trash service which we can put on hold for 6 months.
      7. We have a thermostat that is internet capable so we can monitor the inside temperatures and we set it for 93 degrees but many of our neighbors do not run any AC and their homes stay below 100 degrees. That may not be a problem most places but here in Yuma it really gets hot in the summer
      8. Obviously we stop the mail and newspaper
      9. We empty the refrigerator and open the doors
      10. We use timers and motion detectors to turn on lights outside and inside at appropriate times plus we have remote controls on our phones for many of the lights.
      11. We put bars in the window tracks so they can not be opened other than breaking the glass
      12. We have sensors on the doors and windows that send us a alert if a window or door is opened
      13. We have great neighbors (one was a police detective) who keep an eye on the place and send us a text or phone call if something seems to need attention. We left them a key last year but it wasn't needed since we can see the most everything pretty well with the cameras. We use "WYZE" cameras, as they are inexpensive and good quality video. We are also experimenting with cameras outside that simply screw into a light fixture and they are controllable via internet on which way to look, sounding an alarm, turning on a light. Technology is awesome
And maybe the biggest thing is we don't have anything to steal in the house other that our old furniture and pictures that no one but us would even want, so other than maybe squatters moving in and living in the house, we don't worry too much about it while we are gone but it sure is nice to pull up the cameras just to look it all over and see that our home is pretty much how we left it other than weeds that seem to come out of nowhere over the summer months. LOL Hope that helps some

    • @Colleen1978
      @Colleen1978 Год назад

@@JustPassingThru Huge Thank you Bob and Pearl for all the great advice! You answered my question with much detail. Our home base for the time being is in Wisconsin so we need to leave on the gas for heat in the winter. We will probably leave thermostats set at 50 or so to keep pipes from freezing. It can be humid here in the summer so we run a dehumidifier during the summer months but we plan to be in and out of here during those months (May-September). We have he Blink Cameras and they work pretty good. I was interested in those light bulb cameras too! I hope you do a review on them after you try them out. Cameras mean leaving the internet on so for services we can only turn off the cable tv and forward the mail. Our garbage is part the property tax and not a separate charge. You must have your mail forwarded too. Do you just have regular snail mail forwarded or do you use an escapees membership or something like that? So much to think about and time is winding down. We will head out of here in October. I had Marley (our Yorkie dog) at the vet yesterday and told him our plans so we can get al the vaccines done and paperwork to have with us so hopefully we don't need to look for a vet on the road. Hopefully once we get a season under our belt, I won't be so nervous about having everything done! Thanks again for all the great ideas...it's very much appreciated!

Hi Bob and Pearl, I would not had sold my house if it was the house I wanted to be in during the winter months. I am sure I will buy a house in about two years someplace. Hi Don, I bet it is less than a thousand bucks a year maybe $500 but I count every penny associated with the RV upkeep (solar, lights, caulking, special tools, appliance replacement, tow equipment, etc) and I doubt most folks do it that way. Don’t jinx it for sure. I’m surprised your whole rig fits in Cracker Barrel, we have stayed there only once or twice and like their food pretty well.

We are looking for a homebase in Florida - our current homebase and where our kids are.
We need a basket for our new pup.
We don’t plan on being in Florida for the summer - that’s for sure.
We are waiting for the market to go down before we buy.
But we plan on still traveling half the year. Maybe a bit still in winter in Florida
So great you can go visit your kids at a good time of the year.
We are looking for land to put our RV on. Maybe then build a place. But we want acres. Maybe 5.
Modular home is what we want if there isn’t a house on it.
I’m surprised you still traveled so much after buying the house?
Diesel has been a problem. Luckily, it’s come down a bit.
Sounds like our desired schedule except just Florida instead of Arizona.
We plan on getting a smaller rig once we aren’t full time.
I’m surprised you didn’t get a smaller rig?
Have you thought about renting out your house while you are not in it?
Weather is a big factor. You can’t rely on it.
The benefit of a homebase is definitely working on the RV at your own place.
Thanks for this point of view. 🤗

    • @JustPassingThru

It looks like you have a pretty good plan forming up for your Home Base. We wanted land as well and would have enjoyed building something with a little off grid stuff (thinking solar mostly) but at our age and energy levels I think that has pretty much passed us by. We may relocate in a few years as we are not sure we want to summer in Yuma once we park the RV for the last time and time will tell just how that plays out.
Like you mentioned, we did talk about downsizing the RV but we are way off in our different perceptions ow what Down Sizing our RV means so leaving that decision for a later day (choosing my battles carefully). LOL. Good Luck on your trip to Utah, it sounds like you two have a lot of plans for the summer, hopefully you can fit it all in and have a fun and safe travel season. GOOD LUCK in finding that home base location when you get ready.
