    To be honest, what is the REAL benefit of doing a headstand?
    Many times i read from yoga books they called it the king of asanas. To me it is plain bullshit.
    Having blood rushing to your head and risking a neck bone injury is *more real*
    Also, *How LONG do people maintain* this headstand pose? 1 min? 5 min?
    I doubt more than 5 minutes
    Looks as if balancing too long (more than 5 minutes) may give anyone brain concussion and neck and skull injury

      The real benefit of headstand would vary from person to person, and only when done properly.
      No one should attempt doing headstand without first conditioning their bodies and learning from experienced teachers. It is obvious that headstand should be avoided for people with a history of neck injuries as well as other contraindications.
      I have not come across anyone who had experienced neck bone injury, brain concussion, or skull injury, when the above-mentioned safe practice conditions have been met.
      No doubt you have read yoga books extolling the virtues of practising headstand and you are not in agreement. Yoga, like all other things in life, is a personal practice. If you have grave fears and concerns about headstand, listen to your body and follow your instincts.
      This video provides some conditioning techniques and variations of the pose for practitioners who wish to improve on their existing practices. For those whose bodies have been conditioned and can execute the pose safely and competently (holding time being a function of this), headstand practice would be an entirely different experience for them.

    The best video on youtube about Headstand/Shirsasan.
    This has far more information, movements and practical tips compared to any other videos I have seen.
    I can see that you have included years of your teaching experience in this one video.
    10/10 video.

    Hello, please make a video on handstand for beginners, also how to strengthen arms before doing handstand as many people find it difficult to do handstand because of less arm strength. Thank you in advance.

    • @yogatrends564
      @yogatrends564  4 года назад

      Hi Isha, For arm strength, you can watch my video on Indian push-ups. ruclips.net/video/X6bGnSsyPH4/видео.html
      Regular practise of these push-ups would give you enough arm strength to do most arm related postures.

    Thank you very much for the detailed instruction. I wonder why your video wasn't shown on the result of my searching (headstand) in RUclips. I found your link by accidentally watching the comment of another headstand instruction (Bombay Yoga) given in Hindi (?) completely which I don't understand the talking and the script at all. Luckily I viewed all the comments for that video. 🙏🏻
    Very useful and practical tips. Hopefully I can achieve my goal to make the headstand via your video. Thanks again.

      Thank you very much Chifu Su, I am sure you will be able to do headstand comfortably after some practice of various movements and process mentioned in the video.
      Bombay Yoga is very nice too, especially the concept that the teacher mentions.
      I am not sure why my video didn't appear on RUclips, may be because my videos are relatively newer on RUclips.
      Please let me know if you find any difficulty while practising Headstand and I will be happy to give any feedback on your progress. Thank you once again 😊🙏🏻

      @@yogatrends564 Thank you very much for your positive energy. I do feel more comfortable after I watched your video. I'm following your instruction. I'll let my neck rest for few days then I'll try your method. I was able to do headstand along the wall but still trying to move forward without leaning on the wall. Thanks again!
      I've another puzzle related to the forearms position. Some video showed that one should keep the forearms vertically stand to get strong support from the arms and keep the head free from the ground. How one can achieve the headfree headstand? While your instruction seems to make the forearms flat on the floor. I like your sharing of the information of the report from Stanford university about the strongest part of the skull. It's good to understand the related human structure.

    • @yogatrends564

      @@chifusu6461 When you use the wall, try not to rely on the wall, take as little support as possible, if you can make do just by touching your one big toe (or toes), don't use your feet. it would help you get closer to doing headstand without the wall sooner.
      Regarding headfree Headstand, using just forearms, would not be a Headstand, as the word Head-Stand (standing on the head) describes the purpose of the pose. headfree headstand would be more of another version of the forearm stand.
      Also, the method I have mentioned in this video, focuses on doing standing on the head headstand, but still using your upper back, arms, shoulders and core to stabalise the pose. As you practice more, you would realise when you find a center of mass and bring your body to a proper alignment, you would hardly feel any weight on your arms, shoulders or upper back.
      People in INDIA follow the ancient method for placement and strengthning of Kapal (Frontal bone of the skull) for doing Headstand, and we NEVER put the center of the head (Anterior Fontanelle) on the floor/mat to do headstand because it is the softest part of the head (to allow seasoned Yogis to leave their soul through this gate when they reach highest level of yogic practices, and when they want to leave their body at will). but it may be too hard for foreigners to understand since there is no scientific proofs available yet.

      @@yogatrends564 Thanks for the recommondation and the reason for not using the ceter of head to touch ground. It's great to know the spiritual reason behind this pose. It's a bonus to understand from the aspect of ancient spiritual practice. I'm no longer confused of this part. My gratitude to all ancient Masters .

    • @yogatrends564
      @yogatrends564  3 года назад

      Hi Carolyn, did you try the exercise of arching back, Cat Cow Plank?
      That's one of the things that can help you arch your back when your back is rounded.
      All you need to do is make sure your head doesn't move at all while doing headstand from the moment you put your head on the mat till you come back. And try arching your lower back by moving your hips, that solves the problem in most cases. If you still have difficulty, you can take a short video of your headstand and email me link at enquiry@yogatrends.hk and I will give you suggestion on how you can improve your pose.
