So I've been trying to figure this out by watching video after video, but none helped me until I came across yours. Also, I was able to hold it for about 8 seconds too, which I'm proud of. Thank you :) (Now I need to practice coming down)
+Piper Hutchetson Wow, so great to read that this tutorial was helpful, and congrats on holding the pose. Yes, keep practicing; this is essential. Enjoy 🙏👍✨
Hey thnx for your comment but i have done it for once but the thing is that i was trying to do hand stands but it don't become possible so i have done that after so many stretches and i have done it
I had to come back here to tell you about my progress. Since 2 weeks ago, I've been going into the pre-position of the headstand. I do 3 to 5 attempts to lift the legs every other day and that's it! This is so intimidating that I wanted to take very small increments and grow very slowly. Today I to the 2 feet on the wall and when I realized that I smiled! No panic this time. This is huge for me! I'm very happy!
Hi, Anita, i have gone through lot of vdos on youtube for headstand, but i must say that you explained the entire steps in a pretty lucid way... gud work ... keep it up... cheerssss........
I love how you express what you are teaching, & your voice is beautiful. My only (small) critique here is the background music. As I listen to you, I want this music to go away so that I can hear you without distraction. You've fabulous vocals- no need for extra sound IMO. :-)
seabird thank you so much for this comment and constructive feedback. i appreciate it. i actually stopped using music in general in my videos, (except for the beginning or the end) for various reasons. so its great to hear that i don't really need it :-)
Thank you so much, beautiful lady! I watched many tuttorials on headstands before, none of them worked, but yours! I have done my first ever headstand thanks to you! I'm so happy! Namaste :)
Hien Nguyen enjoy the journey and the practice. take your time and don't be hard on yourself. you will get there. take the opportunity to learn about yourself a long the way then when you get there it will be all the more rewarding. keep me posted :-)
Thank you so much Anita.. your video makes me try to trust myself again doing this.. and yes so sorry too late to know for watch this amazing and perfectly clear explanation video.. (:
Hi Anita. I've been wanting to do headstands but I was scared. Today I watched your video and tried it for the first time. I was so surprised about how I was able to do it! Thank you so much for this! More power to you :)
Sheila dela Cruz that's amazing that you could do it on your first try. just be aware from now on that you don't go up too fast. get used to it gradually and don't force yourself at any time. all the best. happy practice. upside down = new perspective :-)
Thank you for sharing. Great to hear it was helpful. All the best in practicing. I have several headstand flows to practice with. I’ll share one with you 🙏💕🙃

Dear Anita , I practise , practise ... practise . And now ! Do you know ? I CAN DO IT . It's amazing ! I'm very happy . Thank you so much . Give you a kiss !
You guided so gracefully , the moment u lift your legs I stopped the video and tried the handstand. I made in the fourth attempt but when i was in upright pose , I wondered : Ooo.. i forget to watch how to come back to normal position . I can tell you that my neck was abt to come up wid crack sound :D but eventually saved. Thereby i followed the whole video and then made it. Thank so much Anita
You made me smile. What a good spirit you have. Yes, good point. There is 3 stages to Asana: moving in, staying in and moving out of the pose. So, important to watch entire video :-) Please practice safely and know this is a lifetime practice. No rush :-) That said enjoy the new perspective upside down. Good on the mat and off the mat. Namaste :-)
you made me smile too Anita. There is inner satisfaction that Yes! I too can do handstand now in contrast to earlier when I go for shoulder stand pose as an alternative to this pose.
so glad it was helpful ***** i hadn't seen this tutorial in a long time but a lot of yogis have been liking it lately so i had to check it out too, ha ha ha. happy practice, and happy turned upside down :-)
Anita!!! I balanced!!! with the legs folded!! I got my toes OFF the wall!!! oh my goodness!!! I never thought I could do this!! I'm soooo happy!!!! \o/
teresa brown - i can't reply directly to you as there is no 'reply' button on your question. you can use anything just make sure it doesn't slide. practice safely. :-)
+Anita Goa Great video, thanks. I just tried this today, but the thing is I can do the tripod headstand, yet can't do this type of headstand well. I felt that I can't make my butt over my head easily, and my elbows come off the floor if I make my butt that high, is this normal? Or do I have a mobility issue here? Another thing is should I press with my shoulders through the forearms or the elbows? much appreciated!
Hello Liwei - great question. as per your profile photo looks like you have plenty of strength :-) take a look at your mobility in your upper body (shoulders, lats, pecs) and spine, plus hamstrings. if it"s tight there it will be challenging to get hips up. (in tripod you have more space). as for second question. you have to press down into the forearms and up into the shoulders so opposite directions to create more lightness and not so heavy on the head. here are some great upper body/shoulder stretches that can do to help you (particularly cow's face arms - the upper arm with the triceps stretch, see if that is tight). ruclips.net/video/mdDc6Z7WhpA/видео.html i hope make sense? let me know what you discover. cheers :-)
Hi Anita, I saw your video I tried it and able to headstand with wall support. not able to do without support wall. But still enjoying. give us more tips on balancing without wall. Thanks a lot for your video. Keep going........
thank you savio p keep practicing and find your ground upside down and as you feel more comfortable move yourself more and more away from the wall. or practice away from the wall and only go to the egg position and gradually extend one leg at a time. you have to let your nervous system and spine get used to it. you can check out my headstand flow: ruclips.net/video/p9tEgMHNcsM/видео.html enjoy. don't rush. let me know how it goes. happy flow :-)

The video is very good and you are very instructive teacher I wanted to start with my body with the wall but now I will try to do it without the wall. what are the benefits of doing without the wall? Thanks in advance. :)
good to hear it was helpful. make sure you practice safe for yourself, be mindful and patient. stay with your breath and work on the control whether you have the wall there or not. happy practice :-)
Very clear in explaining and the way you performed it. Amazing. I'm trying to do that but the top of my head is extremely sensitive that I'm unable to be down on my head 😕.
Trisha Sanchez glad to hear you found it helpful. take your time and let your head get used to it. there is no hurry. over time it comes together. so enjoy the journey of noticing changes. happy practice. keep me posted on how it goes :-)
Thanks so much for helping those who cannot afford yoga lessons or do not have the time to take them. Is it safe to practice this without help or someone taking care? Thanks!!!
+Julieta Gesualdo you are so very welcome. i am glad to be able to contribute. always practice safely. stay with your breath, and never force anything. if you practice with safety at home there is no reason you should get injured, but any time you can consult with a teacher, or ask questions, do it. you are smart, and your body is intelligent, so just listen/tune in. all the best. namaste :-)
I loved all of your variations. I would definitely start practicing the beginner one. I wanted to ask that do we have to perform this pose or any other yoga pose with an empty stomach?
This tutorial was very helpful for me first I was only able to do it with the wall support but thanks now I can do without wall support and also we call headstand as sirshasan in sanskrit it is an yoga pose please reply me I will feel very good if you did
when I just began with my headstand practice, I practiced with both my legs stretching straight before I could curve both of my legs in the air. So it's like a reversed sequence of curve your legs first and then stretch straight in the air as shown in the video.
Hi Anita. your description for headstand is very detailed. I have been practicing headstand for about a month and it doesn't go anywhere, since I feel my legs are heavy. They dont go up as you do :( Do you have any more tips for it? thx !
hi Kim Kim keep practicing. one month is not a long time. use the tips i give in the video and be patient. don't force it. it will happen. happy practice :-)
This is great!!! I love the headstand pose. How long should I hold it to get the full benefits? I hold it for about 2 minutes, but I think that's my maximum. I also like the tripod headstand.
+Douglas Lewit you have to gradually work up your time. do not force, let it happen gradually. 30 full inhale/exhale breaths is good. 3-5 minutes. very beneficial. glad it was helpful. xo
Dear Anita, Very beautiful, and explanatory, lovely. I have integrate it the tutorial already since a while, and practice in various flows where you do it. These days, though I am struggling learning Scorpio Pose, which is quite challenge... Did you create or think about making a tutorial for Scorpio Pose?
Gabriel Stoica great! i don't have a plan for that tutorial right now. make sure you can hold forearm stand for atlas 10-20 breaths before you attempt scorpion pose. i am sure there are many great tutorials on this pose. try kino mcgregor :-)
Dear You - I would not recommend you starting off with headstand. Please start a beginners program to condition your muscles first. You can get seriously injured. I have a beginner program that take you step by step through the various parts of a yoga practice and the positions. You’ll find it in a playlist on the front page. Ok? All the best 🙏
Cool video. I have been able to do a headstand since I was about 6 years old with no practice so this seems so hard for me to follow haha. It is cool seeing how people who are born without the "so called gift" are able to learn. Very nice tips!
Namasté, and Thank you for your kindness in sharing your knowledge. May I ask, how long should one stay in the headstand pose? Should we begin holding for a specific time and then work toward a longer time?
Initially hold it for as long as you can comfortably. No straining. As you get used to it and feel comfortable increase the time up to 3-5 minutes. Glad it was helpful 🙏🕉
It's very helpful...I am beginner in yoga and usually try headstand and handstand after my gym. But I am not able to perform it without any support and I always need assistance. I can't hold it for even a minute. How should I start as a beginner while keeping all the concerns in my mind?
It takes time Prerna. You have to build strength and also allow your nervous system to get used to being turned upside down. Do not rush. Let it happen over time and takes notes of what you learn along the way 🙏💝🙃
hard to know Stephanie Mariano it depends on how much you yoga you've done so far, how much you practice, your spinal structure. take it step by step like i say in the video. don't rush. you don't want to get injured. i'm glad it was helpful. happy practice and let me know how it goes. namaste :-)
Hi Joseph - you will feel it on your head but the key is to work from your arms as that is your main foundation. Not all the weight on your head although it might feel like that in the beginning. Listen to my instructions carefully and practice and you'll understand what to do. If not just ask me. Happy practice.
So I've been trying to figure this out by watching video after video, but none helped me until I came across yours. Also, I was able to hold it for about 8 seconds too, which I'm proud of. Thank you :)

oh wow, that is fantastic. so glad it was helpful. happy turning upside down :-) thumbs up!!
(in tripod you have more space). as for second question. you have to press down into the forearms and up into the shoulders so opposite directions to create more lightness and not so heavy on the head. here are some great upper body/shoulder stretches that can do to help you (particularly cow's face arms - the upper arm with the triceps stretch, see if that is tight). ruclips.net/video/mdDc6Z7WhpA/видео.html
i hope make sense? let me know what you discover. cheers :-)
+Anita Goa Thanks, the stretch videos seems promising, I'll try it out.

I'm so scared of hurting my neck, I've never ever done yoga or nothing but so curious to learn!
So helpful 💪
Krsaputri happy practice 🙃
¡Saludos desde Argentina! ¡Me encanta el yoga!
Saludos desde Londres. Maravilloso escuchar que amas el yoga. Disfruta tu práctica y practica con seguridad 🙏✨🙃
Cool video. I have been able to do a headstand since I was about 6 years old with no practice so this seems so hard for me to follow haha. It is cool seeing how people who are born without the "so called gift" are able to learn. Very nice tips!
yoga covers it all :-) xo
awesome
Namasté, and Thank you for your kindness in sharing your knowledge. May I ask, how long should one stay in the headstand pose? Should we begin holding for a specific time and then work toward a longer time?
Initially hold it for as long as you can comfortably. No straining. As you get used to it and feel comfortable increase the time up to 3-5 minutes. Glad it was helpful 🙏🕉
Really nice cueing. I especially like the idea of wrapping the shoulders around into the armpits
Wonderful to hear, Alyson! Happy practice and turning upside down. When you’re ready for forearm stand I have a series waiting for you 🙏💝
thank you.. very helpful
i'm glad to hear it was helpful honney vanez happy practice upside down. enjoy the journey :-)
you are welcome. happy diwali to you too. enjoy the light(s) upside down :-)
It's very helpful...I am beginner in yoga and usually try headstand and handstand after my gym. But I am not able to perform it without any support and I always need assistance. I can't hold it for even a minute. How should I start as a beginner while keeping all the concerns in my mind?
It takes time Prerna. You have to build strength and also allow your nervous system to get used to being turned upside down. Do not rush. Let it happen over time and takes notes of what you learn along the way 🙏💝🙃
Lo voy hacer🙌🙆😘
Loved this video! Do you think it's possible to do it without the wall (and feel secure and stuff) in 2 months? (:
hard to know Stephanie Mariano it depends on how much you yoga you've done so far, how much you practice, your spinal structure. take it step by step like i say in the video. don't rush. you don't want to get injured. i'm glad it was helpful. happy practice and let me know how it goes. namaste :-)
Hi Anita, just wondering which part taking the weight of body? Hands or head?
Hi Joseph - you will feel it on your head but the key is to work from your arms as that is your main foundation. Not all the weight on your head although it might feel like that in the beginning. Listen to my instructions carefully and practice and you'll understand what to do. If not just ask me. Happy practice.
