Great break down! Gotta say, it really shows how much y'all care to share your experiences and nicks and knacks of how y'all hunt. Always a pleasure for my husband and I to watch.
Had a question about scent control, I normally use pine and fir, branches. But I bring spray as well.. I'm assuming your bringing just the clothes on your back. So how do you guys control your scent? Thanks..
Wow ! under 30 LBS. that's amazing. Things have really improved and gotten lighter over time. My first 5 day backpack hunt into the Three Sisters Wilderness in 1982 , my pack weight was 65 LBS. You guys Rock ! Keep the info coming.
Man I can't believe how light stuff is now days! I've been away from backpacking for years. We horse pack now so weight isn't really an issue but mobility isn't as easy as walking. I can't wait for 2.0! You guys rock!
Great Video I like the dry bags smart thinking on how it is mold-able and fits in the bag better. Can you put your list down in the comments so people can see them in list form as well please.
Great video. My pack averages about 48 lbs. it’s amazing how heavy water is. I use a Katadyn vario filter. It has carbon charcoal in it and make water smell and taste amazing!! I also have my daily meals packed in individual gallon sized bags.
Hi Kody, Great vid. Curious as to what model of Sawyer water filter you are using and other accessories needed to mate up with the Platypus water system. Thnx, Jason
What about packed clothing like a puffy and rain jacket? And your bow+quiver+arrows? You’ve gotta count either your bow or your trekking poles as carried weight. Do you pack an extra pair of socks? What about small essentials like a phone, car keys, and toothbrush? All that stuff adds up...
What about first aid, toilet paper, bow repair, side arm, etc. Seems a little light. I can’t even get below 40 lbs at this point with all that plus everything you said. Am I just over packing?
Great video! You guys are awesome explaining the details on these hunts. I'm doing a 4 day hunt this year that I am planning on documenting on my channel. You guys are a big inspiration!
Appalachia: On The Hunt , cant wait to see your hunt, I'll be looking for it , just remember. It's not about filling a tag it's about the experiences you have. Wish you nothing but the best, and also hope you do fill your tag, but regardless, looking forward to what you share . Happy hunting and God bless.
Nice Vid! I bought the EXO 3500 this yea(rBased on the Land of the Free series success you had with the pack) I will take some items out of stuff sacks your method looks better Thanks!
Which quick connect kit did you purchase? I tried the sawyer adapter kit and the male connection was too small for a camelbak hose? Thanks and let me know!
any reason why you use the Sawyer filter with your Gravity Works instead of the Gravity Works filter? Im assuming its about versatility or is it an issue with Gravity Works filters.
Just a recap because he talks pretty fast. Exo 3500 pack with lid and drybag First light corrugate, or obsidian pants. September, compagre puffy pants from first light REI flash pad Enlightened equipment quilt Jimmy tarp granit mountain bivy sack Sea to summit collapsable pillow Jet boil small fuel sea to summit long titanium spoon tags and licence spare chapstick wrapped in Leukotape Princeton tech flashlight headlamp, petzle skinning knife baby butt cream. pocket knife sharpener. contractor trash bag delorme - in reach radio - baofeng sawyer filter, platypus bladder. 7 L of water carrying capacity game bags, 3 1/4 bags, vacumme packed two front shoulders camp meat, burger meat bags. sirrus puffy top merino beany merino pants wick 150 hoodie fuse 210 top trecking poles duck tape on the handle
Missing your weapon on there too. :) I wrap some good qulity electrical tape around the limb of my bow. Good idea with the lueko tape around chapstick. 2nd what others said no tp or baby wipes, pjne needles arent to user friendly.
excellent video to know what you have to take, thanks for sharing, you have to make another video, showing the hunt utilities and what it takes to prepare the output. thanks for sharing, diego from montevideo uruguay, I speak spanish but use the translator.
Can you talk some more on your quilt? I had never heard of the brand till this, started some research, looks pretty cool. Is the quilt warm enough to use even later in season? Do you recommend it over sleeping bag? ...
kingpinkcleetheworm I run an alps commander. It works pretty good. A few things i would change on it but I didn't have a bunch of cash for a mystery ranch. But they now make one called the scapegoat. Its a nice pack. A little more expensive but worth the money
Troy Westerbur , I'm with you just bought the alps, x pack it's not awesome but for not a bunch of cash it will work and doubles as a meat pack. Witch is why I got it . More for that then for the pack in but I've been messing with how I'm gonna run it this year , I'm thinking I can camp between 3 and 4 days off my back .
oldman withAbow yes its great as a meat pack. And convertable. The only drawback is it doesn't stay as a pack. And meat pack. But I am making multiple trips it is good. You can easly put 150 lbs on it or in my world a deboned front or hind end. Not quarter a half. And go six miles with it.
10 Acres yes I would but I am not starting out. When starting not too many people can throw down min of 800 on a pack. I sure couldn't. Especially if you are not going to stick with it. Good boots alone are 200. A bow can be anywhere from a grand and up. Thats without arrows. Then camo. Easy to get 50,000 and not even been anywhere. My advice is start inexpensive and replace with the best. You will learn what you like and dont. And then not just throw money at a name. Because none of it will guarantee success. And lots are just useless gadgets.
Waiting on Land of the Free ll ...and the 22nd of August... Colorado here we come ... never hunted early season always the 2nd week of September, but super stoked... Great videos ... Onward, Onward is the watchword...

What about first aid? What shelter do you use for later in the season?

Did exo discontinue the cipher pattern or is it only available for the cool guys? I just purchased a 3500 recently but didn't see it as an option.
It was a limited one time run last year.
Great vid Kody! My backpacking setup is super similar to yours. Love it!

Anyone know the song at the starts of the video?
Is there a less expensive frame for starters that’s also good quality
kingpinkcleetheworm I run an alps commander. It works pretty good. A few things i would change on it but I didn't have a bunch of cash for a mystery ranch. But they now make one called the scapegoat. Its a nice pack. A little more expensive but worth the money
I just bought a Horn Hunter Full curl frame with the 3000 cubic inch bag. I haven't used it yet on a hunt but I'd look into it

Do you use your quilt during late season, cold-time? I need a new bag but my jury is still out on the quilts.

Thats great stuff, but way out of reach price wise for the average everyday hunter... $200 for a pair of pants? $500 for a pack?
No first aid?
