Not necessary for everyone, but as a solo hunter I carry an old sheet. I pack it in a vacuum bag and use it as a ground cloth while I butcher, especially for elk. It keeps the meat out of the dirt as I bone it, until I can get it into a game bag.
A patch of tyvek I have seen them use
Lighter than an old sheet is a cheap emergency blanket. Small abd has a double use if needed
Picnic table cloth is easy. Light disposable and doesn’t reflect heat and get sticky like a emergency blanket 👍🏼
I use a 10x10 ultralite tarp
Trent is looking lean and mean. Good job on thinning down.
Mamma always said start every critique with a compliment.
Love watching you guys, and I watch every one of y’all’s videos.
Every one of us flat landers back east that soak up your content, and dream of one day being on one of these hunts would have came up with that same pack. Steve normally has a pack on his back that looks like he could crawl in it twice. We watch all y’all’s videos to find the things we would have never thought of. It felt like y’all was rushing to push content out and left a bunch of things out. With that being said I’ll continue to watch every video y’all put out and absorb every bit of knowledge I can.
@@jonathanmoughton8622 Yep. Specifically in Colorado, leg gaiters for all the brush sub 10,000 feet, bug repellent (September), and baby wipes which might be the most important. The last few years archery season has been climbing into the 80’s around 9000/10,000 feet. It gets hot! Stay cool and get meat cooled asap.
I started committing to staying out all day long on my public land deer hunts were I hike in around a mile in the dark and stay until dark. Nothing really hard core but I almost never see any other hunters and I normally plan on packing out a quartered up deer instead of dragging it out. A good day pack that can haul meat has changed the game for me
I'm a gear geek so I love seeing what's in people's packs.
There are 5 survival essentials that I believe everyone should always have in their backcountry pack. Knife, compass (phone w/ OnX also works), signal (whistle or InReach), lite, and fire starter (water proof matches or lighter). Anything else is icing on the cake IMO.
I’m still a big fan of a physical compass just in case. Down in the bottom of a valley with dense trees signal may not work, the compass may or may not either.
One thing Scouts and later as an adult helping with Trail Life was 3 different forms of fire starting, ideally located in different areas of your body/pack.
Always enjoy your stuff! And your videos have been my base to setup for backcountry elk hunt
This video was awesome for a first time backcountry hunter thanks for making it
Excellent and thorough breakdown of a bag/gear dump. Thanks guys
I can’t wait for archery season
Enjoyed video review of the basics to get out there and get it done.
It's interesting to see the differences between hunters and their packs
Nice thanks guy I appreciate this video because sometime went getting ready most of the time I forget what to pack thanks
Would to see what the camera guys are packing. Would be a great video. I’m curious on the gear your guy are packing.
All this plus another 10 pounds in lenses, cleaning kits, and batteries 😂
I feel that 😅😅, you bring any solar to charge gear ?
Great pack dump! I was just going through my stuff and getting weight in items to see what I want to take and what I want to leave behind!!
Appreciate these videos!! Very helpful to see what is essential versus comfort!
Ty for the great information. My son in west Virginia is hooked on you guys too. Thats alot of gear. Im wanting to hopefully meet you one of the times i drive to the coast. Take care and be safe. Mike
Great video guys always like watching these packed dumps. You learn a lot from them, first Elcott I climbed Buffalo Ridge in Colorado with 70 pound pack and rifle. Yes it was brutal. I don’t take long to learn what you need and what you don’t need lol
7:178.... WHOA!!!! Perfection!
That's a heavy set up. You could easily shave 5+ lbs. It will still work excellent though. I learn more from the through hikers for the ultralight. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for the pack dump guys.
Thanks for the break down of your pack Steve.. good info to have, and it's the way I am.. I use the same stuff that I like for years, not much change up... Quick question saw the traps on the back wall!! Who's the trapper in the family.. just interested because I do it also in the winter after big game is over..
Usually by the end of the season I have three or four rolls of tp, hate walking out without a sock!
I've gotten my pack down to 40lbs with food for a 3 day hunt. With almost the same basic stuff.
Also I love your guys elk bags. Put mine to use 2 years In a row now. Same bags. Great product. Thank you guys.
Awesome! I was just getting my stuff together this evening!! Come on September
Nice video. Curious what you take for clothes and rain gear if you ever want to do that video. Pry changes so much with temps though.
Definitely a good pack dump! Nice to see that I’m not over packing either! 😂
Good to add elk calls
I'd have a second pair of socks, rain gear and extra jacket. A good jacket at night would be nice to have when the temps drop. I like to have a poncho with me for rain gear. An excellent knife is the Mora knives on Amazon. I've used one on several elk, along with a Havalon.
Great work, great info!
Good video. I always seem to pack too much!
Thanks for the information .
What rain fly are you using on the K4? i have the Exo dry bag, but it would be alot easier to just throw on a cover.
I suspect the sloshing sound in that hard water bladder will drive you crazy.
informative for future.
NO BUGLE TUBE😮, elk calls, solar panel (to charge battery banks), clothes, bow repair kit, leukotape, & contractor tarp to keep meat off ground when processing your elk 😉🤣 jk around but i am shocked you did add your bugle tube
Audio kinda sucks on this one bothers
Your pack dump videos are solid. What does the pros take?
So happy elk week is on...😂 Unfortunately, I haven't had the pleasure to do a pack in/hike in, I mostly hunt deer in Wisconsin and Missouri on my property. One of these days though, I will go elk hunting, and I do appreciate the information and knowledge ya'll help me with. 😊
Don't be like me and wait too long, you'll be toooooo old to go Just make time and go I'm still going just a lot harder now
@@dancassidy9047 I'm 64 years young, I'm going to try
Great content thank you
Inreach is a life saver in the back woods
I'm ready for elk season
Ty 💥
awesome pack dump!!!!
this is great, thanks
I’m going to get an Exo for my pack 💪🏻
Bring on elk week!
Love your videos
Ah hunting season is near, about time
Good call on the knife sharpener. I’ve never carried one in my pack, but after killing 2 elk in 3 days with my buddy last year I’m definitely gonna carry a sharpener for now on. Half way thru the second elk my knife was toast. Luckily my buddy had 2 knives and let me use 1. I felt like a real Trent without my own sharp knife. Jk, love you guys.
Great info
I can’t sharpen a knife. I suck at it. Replacement blades for me.
I always end up bleeding with those, usually don’t feel it
Love the video but the sound quality hurts :(
Benadryl for yellow jackets and bald faced encounters😬
“Cause he thinks he’s a doctor but he’s not” Dentist hate! 🤣 looking forward to this whole week!
I cried when Steve said this 🤣🤣🤣
You ain’t no doctor 👊
😂
Where is Cody been and what happened to waterfowl channel?
Would love to get these guys out here to Africa with us. Does anyone know how we could get a hold of them???
Come to Africa, guys, please!!!
Reply to me for info
I only pack what will fit in my truck ,,,,,
Good grief what’s up with all these scammers?
Weigh all the stuff that “doesn’t weigh anything… lol. Kidding!
no extra clothes, socks, etc?
A spoon would be handy too along with a lighter, toothbrush and a bunch of actual hunting gear. Seems like the title isn't so accurate.
RUclips, some ultralight backpackers or thru hikers. you will never see them bringing extra sets of clothes or anything. Weight gain is unnecessary and adds up very quickly.
“Everything that doesn’t weight anything idk about that”
Couple seconds. 😂
Sorry guys the audio is horrible.
WHAT NO WET WIPES!!!!!! Thats just WRONG man! 😝
❤🤗!
JO JO IN VT 💞
Another pack dump video…
