I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this happy for a show I might have to check this out!
I absolutely love this show!! I agree with you totally! Such a well-done show, hitting on all cylinders! Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just brilliant 👏🏼
Nice to see you fired up like this! Yeah I've been LOVIN this series so far. I think this'll be Colin Farrell's career defining role, like Jack Sparrow was for Depp or Iron Man was for Downing Jr.
More like Kingpin was for vincent d'onofrio
Loving this show for sure. Almost forgot what smart television felt like.
This episode was amazing…Motti is amazing as Sofia..this is how you do it character development…I am hooked..so many avenues they can do…
Ep 2 10/10
Enjoying both "From" and "Penguin", two great shows.
I couldn't agree more I love both shows. I'm Also watching Tulsa King too.
@@jamesjackson6563 I'll check Tulsa King out. Thanks mate.
@@SuitYourselfyep 💯
Watching both right now as well.
“From” is mystery box trash.
Amazing how this show is being received so well without the batman
Idk how Oz can keep track of all his lies lol
He must've watched Breaking Bad lol
Is it really a 10 out of 10 or are we just so sick of the same old crap being made
So far it's been above solid
12/10
First few episodes are brilliant
But it does fall off a bit later In the season.
Good episode. Sofia is becoming my favorite. So unpredictable. Vic might get killed by the end of the season if he messes things up for Oz.
The Penguin...
If compared, Dismal Disney is truly a dump of dung.
It's EXACTLY what I hoped it would be. So glad there is still legit, intelligent entertainment to be found on TV
Bro IGN said a stellar performance but it didn't live up to the premier y'all gave it a 5...can't take them seriously
Episode 2 was very good but I prefer episode one so far
Cause I loved how we follow Penguin in every single moment. I don't think I've seen that before in an episode so far. I was hoping that would continue but it didn't
Episode 2 felt more like Sofia's episode.
Anyway one of my favorites moment is episode two, was the knife planting scene, ha They fooled me.
Predictably Grace Randolph didn't like The Penguin but loved Agatha all along
Well shes an idiot
You dumb? She clearly did. Did you not LISTEN to her review video?
Okay i must've missed it. When did they call him penguin in that episode?? Also Cristin Melloti my god. She's underrated and quite terrifying.
Right near the start before he gets in the van
@@dinobarletta9670 ah okay. I gotta rewatch that episode then.
Wasn't a Farrell fan, but now that has changed my view of him! His makeup, Is floorless! Loving this so far! This Is as good as Breaking Bad, and Trailer Park Boys! ;D
Check out “In Bruges”.
So, so good.
I loved his role in the lobster
Disney Productions are smelly "swill" for the mentally limited in comparison to the exquisite taste of the Penguin 🐧.
Unlike you I am able to enjoy this show without thinking about Disney.
More twists and turns than a twisty turny thing....with brilliant acting to boot, great dialogue that keeps you engrossed 🐧☔️.....roll on episode 3.
the episode is an hour long,,and when it finishes your like,,wait ,,its over,,?,is seems like 30 min,,very well written, acting is great, pacing is spot on,,so far ,very good work!
I was bit interested how Maronis family works. I thought they were Italian mafiosos but Shohreh Aghdashloo is his wife but shes Iranian and she has her own gang. Im making something out of nothing I guess, but I hope we get more.
Yeah I thought the same thing! A lot of people probably didn't notice but I like organized crime stuff!
It's a good show. Very good. But I'm tired of HBO turning everyting into hard drama. Have you noticed that regardless of the source material, everything on HBO is "hard drama"..
I understand but It’s what they do and know best and they are sticking with it. You forget HBO’s hard hitting and first one hour drama for the network, OZ. The show was an instant hit and went on to have several seasons. I also think without OZ we wouldn’t have no The Wire or Sopranos and even today shows like Euphoria and The Penguin.
@@calebmartin1215 It is not what they do, it is ONLY thing they know. And 30yrs ago it was great. As mentioned shows like OZ or Sopranos felt "refreshing" with great writing and some "outrageous" elements added. Now it is just repeat without "outrageous". DULL and with lower level acting, writing, then it used to be. Just take a look at HoTD, TLOU, The Penguin. Three COPLETELY DIFFERENT source materials, while three SAME F-ING shows. Oh my God. It is getting tired, reason why HBO can now only beat Disney which is TOTAL DISASTER, while such "victory" is very DECEITFUL, and truth is: HBO is NOT doing well AT ALL..
I think you are saying they can't write drama anymore. And you're right if they keep censoring everything and let the pc police neuter them
This is like complaining that Disney is all about childish cartoons
@@sino8r499 Yes. That is a problem for everyone in "modern entertainment", while HBO is stubbornly turning everything into "hard drama" in addition. Video Game? Fantasy Novel? Gotham Comic? Yeah, I got an idea: why don't we make it "hard drama". How about NO? How about capturing a video game feel? How about capturing Fantasy Novel feel? How about Comic book Gotham feel? No? HBO has turned Dull-Half-Woke Playing Safe for Play-Safe Heads. BORING!
MAX delivering the goods just before Halloween/Xmas
Its very believable how penguin maneuvers his way around and is manipulating the game. None of it feels contrived. His split second decision making never felt forced. Also I’m glad they took parts of Sofias origin from the comics as the Hangman and incorporate it into this show. Also I just love the part where Sofia sees everyone staring at her and just stuffs her face with food.😂
Two things that stand out to me with this show are 1. it's so good I need to remind myself that it's a The Batman spinoff, and 2. while it can definitely stand on its own two feet, some events beg the question where are Batman and Gordon? Not that the show needs them, but still. As for this episode, Sofia Falcone's turnaround was masterfully executed, and Victor's arc also promises great intrigue.
Now this is how you write a script and act it out! Just fucking exceptionally well done!
Amazing show!
This is what happens when you hire actual writers.
This was amazing!
I could NOT agree with you more Mister H! The Penguin is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise horrid entertainment landscape! 🤙🏻💜☂️🐧
The crazy thing is that I heard that the 3rd episode is when it gets really good. I'm looking forward to it. I love this show.
So, is this "The Penguin" or "Da Sofia" show? Just asking given the times we're living in, catch my drift? ;)
Phenomenal Episode and phenomenal performances from Colin Farrell & Cristin Milioti. I’m so invested for what’s next and I’m seriously rooting for both the Penguin & Sofia Falcone
Yes it’s good really good but there was a time when this was just a normal show
" Let's dance " so good
I wasn't feeling it from episode 2 tbh, the first episode was far better. I wonder how long it can keep going the way it is, until we get more of Gotham's lowlifes, maybe even Bats turning up. Its good, very good in places, but i feel the overall series, won't entertain me like The Batman did, even though i know this story will told over multiple hours, not just three. As good as the characters are, only Oz and Sofia are that great characters, the rest are take them or leave for me, plus it can feel a little daft in places, compared to the dark, brooding and grounded feel of the movie. Lastly his kid sidekick never feels like it needed, he disappears half the time, unless he will become a bigger character down the line(maybe he will become Robin, but i doubt it).
I really like how quick Oz is on thinking on his feet. It’s not the dirt if thing where a bunch of improbable events turns out to be part of his plan. It makes sense when his plan goes side ways and he improvises his way out.
I absolutely love Cristin Milioti as Sophia Falcone. I agree with your assessment of her. I never really noticed her before, and damn, she is good as this crazy serial killer. One part of this episode is the bit with his mother. I liked it in the first episode, but not really digging it in this one.
Oz in this one episode reminded me of Tony Soprano and his problem with his mom which was a running theme in the Soprano' s and there was a good nod to the end of the Godfather with Sofia Falcone standing at the door as it's closed to her just like Kay with Michael at tend of The Godfather. When done right these shows can be so powerful and best thing on television. Mr H one interview you should check out with Colin Farrell is on the Graham Norton show on BBC1 this past weekend he explains the whole makeup and how he scared a random person as Oz just by his look.
I love this show. Honestly it's just enjoyable watching how Penguin gets himself out of a situation.
The Penguin is a wonderful show. Even though the episodes are an hour long, it doesn't feel that way. There are so many plots within plots that will keep audiences guessing as to what happens next. My bet is that Sofia Falcone will harm Penguin's mother. The actors all have great chemistry onscreen and play their parts very well.
Last time I saw you this happy was for Alien Romulus
When vic was asked about California, does anyone know what the heck she meant by its barren?
Loving this series, can’t wait for Batman 2!
This series is so f… cool! This series realy put in perspective how bad some of the new Star wars is
this episode was meh, no offense but it was so cliche and so generic
So far, so good, then. 👌🏼
Thank you, sir.
Great show look what happens when dc done right
This was Plot twist galore in best way ever 💯👏😎
About time we got something better it’s been awhile
Great 👍 I'm glad people like this.
I Love this show ! No 1 show of the year
This is a fantastic show, love it so far!
Yeah it's very good so far

This show looks insanely unneeded. Oh wait... it IS insanely unneeded.
Watch it before making a fool of yourself.
@@anthonykarnes6804 how about no? Seriously ZERO interest. Can't be that hard to understand.

Love it
I don't know its cool but looks like something i already saw .....
I'm not buying the hype on this one. I know people are saying it's 'better than what Matt Reeves has done', but in my view, that's setting a very low bar. The Batman sucked. Who's really asking for these 'crime procedurals' with these comic book characters seemingly used for the name only? I couldn't believe how boring The Batman was ... You want a good crime drama watch True Detective season one. The Batman is just kiddie fair , ripping off David Fincher style visuals with flat boring characters. I'm waiting to watch Penguin once the whole thing has fully dropped on HBO. People were hyping The Batman, calling it a 'masterpiece'. 😂
This is better than batman
@@anthonykarnes6804 Good to know.. guess I'll find out. Probably will have to avoid reviews for a bit longer because I'm not waiting around for episodes.
@@Fiveash-Artep 1 was a perfect pilot episode and colin as oz carries the show but im worried the feminist angle will eventually rear its ugly head and the show will falter halfway through the season i hope im wrong
@@eskanda3434 The Batman had so much propaganda messaging inserted I can't believe how many people seemed to ignore it. It's one reason I don't trust any of the 'critics' who're pushed heavily by the algorithms. Most of them are so agenda orientated even if they do speak mostly truth on some subjects. It seems they're very selective about which production studios are targeted and what kinds of obvious propaganda they're willing to ignore for a buck.
@@Fiveash-Art"So much propaganda"? First off that's not true. And secondly, a single line by Catwoman is more than enough for you to start crying?😂 Good lord, grow some balls already.
The first ep was great, HBO knows how to make TV, at the same time, based on your description of what they are doing with Sofia - since I haven't seen the second episode yet - this attempt to get rid of "these old men" because they took her kill; does that nor remind you of the constant intersectional feminist massages that HBO and other studios have been pushing with female characters in recent years on their shows? That the men "took the agency away" from the female characters? Don't you find it an obvious and not so subtle "woke" element within the show? It's certainly not as overt as in other badly made shows but it's still there. It's the anti patriarchy massage that has been pushed into everything that Hollywood has put out in the last what 10 years at least? In the case of the Mafia, it was always and still is a very male dominated type of criminal organization and the goal here by the showrunners - based on your description of this ep - seems to be to have the "crazy" shunned female member of the family, show the men, and take over the entire organization. Now, I could accept this creative direction as long as it's well acted, well written and as long as the end goal would be to put the Penguin as the winner of this war by the end of the show. The Penguin should become the new crime-lord of the city once it's all over. If they are not going to do that, then the show's quality and overall reception will turn negative.
The actress is very impressive, but that's not unusual for HBO shows, they've always produced great shows for the most part. As a good recent example, the same underlying feminist massaging has been a part of HOTD, to the point that by season 2 it derailed the overall quality of the show and was responsible for one of the worst illogical scenes in the series in that last ep of the latest season. I do hope we won't get that same pattern here.
Well said, and you're not wrong. The 'inside the episode' bit after episode two describes pretty much exactly what you just said. However the one thing the show runner said that caught me off guard was "everything we do will be in service of this character, in service of Oz". Which seems to be true so far.
I am stunned, honestly, the mental gymnastics by both sides of the spectrum. SHE IS A SERIAL KILLER, there's nothing aspiring about her, she is not a role-model. Also, not everything that deals with women being at the mercy of men is "woke", that is true to life, I don't know if you have been out much or talking to real people but that kind of stuff happens still on a daily basis that it's almost scary. Writing characters like these who feel that way is not unnatural, I remember how people got so butt-hurt about one throw-away line from Catwoman in The Batman, eventhough that's just what her character is feeling. Not every show with a stong woman is woke, give me a break, just like not everyone depicting strong white leads is "racist" or "toxic masculine". Mindsets like these are two sides of the same freaking coin and yet people either don't see it or are just too delusional to accept it. I hate modern hollywood just as much as the next guy, but I equally hate the conspiratorial online fanbases that see a scheme in everything. How about we just watch art and judge it on it's own merits?
Bruh, touch grass.
My woke sniffer is very highly attuned and nothing about The Penguin show thus far is even in the same universe.
No one is talking about how catwomen is falcones daughter too and that sofia and catwomen could come across eachother in this series
Good point
