Ultima RS: The BEST DIY Track Car?

  • Ultima Sports released their RS halo car in June of 2019, as a complement to the Ultima Evolution kit. The RS can outperform nearly every road car with its 1200 horsepower LT5 engine, manual Porsche transaxle, and lightweight custom chassis. Ultima says it's the fastest, most versatile and aerodynamic model they've ever made, and can beat out even million-dollar supercars on the track. Does this make the Ultima RS the BEST kit car, or will the mysterious price tag hold it back from being a true affordable exotic?

    I'm please to say that I am the the proud owner of that first GTR produced in 98/99 featured in this video footage from 2:31 to 2:46! And whilst my GTR does not include any of the creature comforts on the EVO or the RS models, it can still achieve 0-60mph in under 3s! This is a good overview of Ultima, though its a shame they didn't cover the McLaren F1 era and to be brutally honest, all of the Ultima models have 'had' to evolve with the times in an effort to ensure that Ultima Sports Ltd retain their position and credibility within the 'very' best of the kit car industry and of course to meet the latest ever moving automotive legislation world wide. Long may they continue.

      Do they come with the engines? I was thinking of ordering a kit but im stuck between the ultima RS or the factory five gen 3 type 65 coupe-R but i have no idea which one would be easier to source parts like the engine trans and other little parts i may need for the build.

    • @trevorwillardracing6222
      @trevorwillardracing6222 Год назад

      @@shanks0307 You can choose your own engine and transmission options either from Ultima or source them yourself. Ultima can supply the car in kit form to your own specifications (everything you need for the build including engine and transmission) or can build one for you at additional cost of course. The easiest option is to use the factory options for everything, then you won't need to source anything, other than consumables for the build. However, there is now a wait list for both kits and built cars.

    I emailed ultima, and they sent me a pricing sheet for the required parts as well as upgrades. If you get all the carbon fiber and digital displays and stuff, the LT kit ran about $120k and the LS kit ran about $100k. Also, you don’t have to source the stuff yourself. I like the offset mirror because of the functionality. It tells me this is a genuine race car, not just a show stopper. If I could afford one of these, I would probably want cameras instead of mirrors though.

  • @thechumpsbeendumped.7797
    @thechumpsbeendumped.7797 4 года назад +7

    The asymmetry of the wing mirrors shows that they value function over form, which in my opinion for a vehicle of this type is the right option.
    If however I had $100,000 to spend on one, I’d get rid of the mirrors completely and have cameras instead.

    An Evo kit will set you back $70-74k depending on exchange rate and options. Figure about 30% more for the RS if you want all new new aero bits. When completed my Evo was ~150k, and I'd expect a similarly spec'd RS to be closer to 190k. There's a bit more in the history but you did a good job covering it.

    • @DriveDriverDriven
      @DriveDriverDriven 4 года назад +6

      @Mr.BigBoss7 I love the Porsche GT3 and RS and I've run against both on the track with the Ultima. My Evo had 695hp and weighed 2350lbs with half a tank of fuel. When coming on to the front straight of a given track with a GT3 in front of me, I could pass them like they had thrown out a parachute, and they were similarly out matched in the braking zones and corners. Most cars I could pass like this, but there were a few exceptions; a Senna, GT2RS, and a tuned 720 which would all make me fight for it. I would say the GT3 was a much more comfortable tourer, mostly for cabin noise, but the GT3RS rides much harder than the Ultima did. However, I would take either Porsche any day I had to sit in traffic, the pdk is an amazing gearbox.

    • @DriveDriverDriven
      @DriveDriverDriven 3 года назад +2

      luigi costa On the same tire there is no contest between the gt3 cup and the Ultima, it’s not a very fair comparison. The Ultima is closer to a Daytona/Le Mans prototype in terms of power/weight and handling.

      @luigicosta4520 3 года назад +1

      DriveDriverDriven wow! Amazing! So i guess that in terms of lateral G-force the ultima is better than even a gt3 rsr...am i right? I ask you these things because i have understood that the ultima is much more a track car than a road legal car....even if you can use it on public roads....this is the opinion i have understood from many comments here of this video! So yes the 911 gt3 cup or rsr are 2 different classes of this car....but speaking of track cars i would know the difference in cornering....so i guess the ultima is better in long corners and not in a tight curve...
      Anyway thanks sooo much for your precious answers...too precious....not so many people have an ultima!

    Realistically, in 2022, to complete this in the USA and go from the deposit to fully driving Ultima RS, $140,000 is more realistic (including a decent crate engine for $30k), with only import taxes included. A fully optioned Ultima RS with carbon, motech, etc. can easily top.$230,000.
    It's still cheaper than the flagship european exotics, but there's no way in hell you're getting this driving at $75,000 USD.
    Also, there's no way it's 2,030 lbs finished. Finished, with all systems installed and fluids, it's much closer to 2,600 lbs, which is still very light for a car with this much power, but it's exceedingly difficult to get this car driving at less than 2,300 lbs.
    It's a great car, but underselling the price and underestimating the weight shouldn't be done.

      well thats the point of them really. you can buy a "basic " model with LT1 engine around the 450 bhp mark tht will be low 100k or go balls out with lt5 1000bhp, every option ticked, seqential gearbox, component upgrades, carbon fiber all over etc and youll find yourself clearing 160 pretty quickly. epic cars.

    I guess I can forgive you for not mentioning that an Ultima chassis was used to test the drivetrain for the McLaren F1 back in the early '90s, given that you weren't even born then. Also, for a car-related channel, you are the first person I have ever heard refer to a race meeting as a "tournament"...

    If you want to do it properly(lift system, pre fit, quality dash, alcon brakes, upgraded fuel pump, pedal box, all carbon options) and why wouldn't you, a 1000bhp engine or thereabouts more like £200,000. Worth every penny, you would have to spend a £1,000,000 to get near it!

  • @Howie262

    Can anyone compare the SLC vs the Ultima RS?
    It appears the Ultima RS is about 500 lbs lighter then the slc with the same exact drive train. Both are sick and look great but I’m a huge fan on ultra light things, weight savings is power.
