The moment from 15:20 to 17:00 is just History.
In his head it's really like : "Okay guys, I gave my best, I gave you everything. Those are the tears of my career, all the tears I kept from the very beginning. There is the crowd, the world, legends, my parents, my wife and my children watching me right now. All this hard work for that moment. I know I did something big. Now, I can enjoy what I accomplished. Thank you."

You say "tough moments", but even at his lowest point, Federer never dropped below #9 in that period, 2012-2015
Only in late 2016, early 2017, going into the AO, did Fed drop our of the top 10 and people really started to write him off.

9 years ago, Federer cried after losing a tough AO final against his greatest nemesis, Rafael Nadal.
5 years ago, Federer cried after losing in the second round of Wimbledon to Sergiy Stakhovsky.
Everyone thought that he was done for, and would never win a Grand Slam again.
Last year, he avenged both losses by winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
Today, just like 9 years ago, Federer was seen crying at the Rod Laver Arena. Only this time, they were tears of joy.

Only the SALT in his tears know the pain he felt between 2012 to 2016. It's for that he let it loose especially when he referred to his FANS and onlookers. Those who feel he is self centered, you people should acknowledge the amount of pressure and expectations he carries and honours. DON'T ASSUME and JUDGE him.

It's funny how that during Federer's GS drought (after having won his 17th GS title, in 2012), some people were saying he couldn't win any more grand slams. And they said the same in regards to Nadal, as well. But, here we are in the beginning of the 2018 tennis season and Fed have added 3 more GS titles to his tally. Nadal have added 2 more. And it certainly feels like that is probably one of the reasons why Fed was so emotional. I also think that the naysayers need to remember Rudy Tomjanovich's words: "never underestimate the heart of a champion."

Roger changed inside after the injury, he's more calm on court and plays with no fear. I think Roger can play at the top level until he's 40, I can't see why not, he rarely picks up an injury, he rests properly to give his body a chance to recover, he's a very intelligent guy, he beats you with skill and intelligence on court, very smart player.
I'm a Rafa fan but Roger is the best, I love his one handed backhand and no nonsence play, no time wasting, loud grunting or mind games, he just plays. I tell you this, he is a big threat to Rafa winning Roland Garros in 2018, if he rests properly after this tournament and prepares well for the French Open, he is a serious threat.
By the way, Marin you are a class act too, another great player, he's a credit to the sport, all the best for the future Marin.

im sorry, whatever you are a fan of, you should know, neither is Roger going to go for the RG title diminishing his chances at wimbledon, nor does this AO change anything about Rafa being by far the greatest player who has ever played on CLAY.
I mean nothing would cement Federers GOAT status more than a run at the Season Grand Slam beating Nadal on the way on clay at age 36. I would love, love, love to see that. but lets stay realistic here. there is a reason 10 of nadals 16 grand slams are won at RG. his game is and will always be perfection for that surface. no way Federer risks his season for a slight chance at maybe having a shot in france.

But Roger skipped many ATPs of the normal tennis year circuit. Focusing more on big challenges (Maters and Grand Slams). I mean he's still good, a master of Tennis, but the age is affecting him somehow.

guillerme, that is just smart. He doesn't need those small titles, those mean little to him at this point. I would have done the same thing.

    • @DEXTER941
      @DEXTER941 6 лет назад

Rafa has been beaten at Roland Garros by Soderling and Novak so please don't say that Roger doesn't have a chance of winning or beating Rafa. Remember John Isner nearly had Rafa out of the tournament, it went to five sets and Isner is not a specialist on clay, anything but.
Roger may choose to do what he did last year and focus on Wimbledon, I don't know, what I'm saying is if he is targeting the French Open as one he wants to win, then absolutely he is a serious threat. Rafa is always shaky in the first couple of matches in a Grand Slam until he gets the feel of the courts, after that he gets in the groove.
I'm not sure Roger is satisfied with winning Roland Garros only once, he may decide to focus on it, I don't know what he has planned and neither do you. As a Rafa fan, I only care that he wins Roland Garros , that doesn't mean he will, he's got some stiff competition and you can now put Chung in the mix as he's game is perfectly made for clay. We may see a tennis player from Korea win Roland Garros.

I was lucky to witness this.I remember back in 2005, i cared little about tennis. Then one night this Federer guy was playing an early round match in the Australian Open and i just happened to watch Fed hit about 5 shots that made me go "what the $*&^ was that?!!" Still only watch the majors mostly, but i'm glad I didn't turn to another channel and have watched Roger all these years. And to see that he sill wants to win, his pure love for the game of tennis has not wavered, thanks Roger for just being you.

Fed haters like to laugh at fed's tears, as if it is not manly. Crying when you lose is often not the manly thing to do. No player takes his losses as honorably as Roger, heaping praise on his opponent and not using injury as an excuse for his loss even when it clearly played a role. Crying when you win is testimony to his incredible character. Having the humility and sense of gratitude and appreciation to indicate amazement at your own accomplishment, as if saying, "Thank God, I can't believe I was lucky enough to have such great success." 95% of today's players have the polar opposite reaction and can't wait to tell the whole world how unbelievably great they are even after far smaller accomplishments.

This here , is exactly why Federer is loved so much, both as a sports man and an individual. The way he shares his disappointments and his victories with the rest of us. I remember how he shed tears after losing Wimbledon 2014, 2015 to Novak. He was so devastated. One can’t help but feel for Roger, and honestly his wins have become my wins too. I find myself crying at his losses and his wins. The fact that he let’s us see them is what I love about him. He will surely be missed at retirement and I hope this dream run of his continues till he decides to hang his racquet. What a champion!
On another note, Roger has raised the bar for the rest of the Big-boy gang. There is no way Novak or Andy or are not going to be inspired to win more GSlams and just re-invent themselves after Roger’s performance. What a great start to the year.

The cruelty some trolls show to Federer for one reason or the other is truly astonishing. Roger, an honest, hardworking sporting legend and a father of 4 beautiful children. He is a gentleman to everyone. And also the most talented tennis player ever. This reminds me of Batman when Michael Caine said "Some people just want to see the world burn" The wrist slashers and their likes.
