In today's video, my friend Ed (@fed0exautos on Instagram) and I work on reviving a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta that's been sitting since 1998! This was one of those unexpected purchases that was just too good of a deal to pass up. I'm not sure if this will end up with its own youtube series or not, just depends on whether there's enough interest in the project. Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see more on the car! Thanks for watching!

Mechanical restoration.
I totally agree!
I would really love to see it restored to showroom quality with a power increase. You just don’t see mint Berlinettas out there and that model and trim was one of my first favorite cars when I started noticing cars back in the day.

Please let this be a series I’m some interested!
Thank you for the feedback!
My dad had a 79 berlinetta but had to sell it in 1996 when money in the house got tight. He loved it. Always been a dream of mine to track it down and buy it back for him one day
It’s been a while since the algorithm actually popped your channel on my feed, and I’m glad it did. I can’t wait for this series!
Thanks dude, I appreciate it!
I absolutely love these late run of the 2nd gen camaro's. Back in High School I had a 76 Camaro and one of my best friends had a 79 Camaro that I now have. Right after High School we both went in the Army and both ended up at Fort Campbell and then after we got off active duty he went in the National Guard and I went into the reserves and we both went to work at Saturn on the other side of Nashville from Fort Campbell, then 2 years later he transfered to Buick and moved to Detroit because his wife was originally from Michigan while I stayed there in Spring Hill, Once I hit my 20 year mark I retired but he was going to stay until he hit 25 but was killed in Afghanistan in 2014, 8 months shy of his 25 year mark, he was going to come home in 3 months and put his retirement packet in because it takes about 6 months to get done. Back in June his mom called me and asked me if I wanted the car because his dad had passed away in March and she knew they both would want me to have the car, so the next day I attached my trailer to my truck and my son and I drove from Northwest Arizona where I live now to Central Missouri to get the car along with a 350 engine that he had thinking he wanted to put it in the car, after getting home with it we were cleaning out the car and I found a yellow notebook that lined out what he wanted to do with the car so that's EXACTLY what i'm going to do with it, even down to the GOD AWFUL UGLY Mint Green Paint job, Turns out he wasn't going to put the 350 in the car, he was going to clean it up and sell it to help fund the car build, so I have a buddy that needed a 350 so I sold it to him for $500 along with another 305 that ran but will need a rebuild that I just gave to my son to put in his 73 Nova 4 door project that he's working on.
I'm sorry about you buddy. May he Rest in Peace
@@jesusdavid885 Thanks, the 10 year anniversary was just last week and I was HOPING to have it running and driving to make the trip back but no dice, it just needed too much work to bash it back together. But I did promise his mom I would have it completely done by next year.
Damn, Kyle! That was intense! Great car and what a restoration it will be! Can’t wait!
Thanks buddy!
Would love to see this thing restored with the same engine. Just as a reminder that hey, not all these cars were actually that fast lol
Yeah I know, I was being sarcastic LOL.
All the important stuff looks great. Restore it! '79 Camaro was my first new car, so I have a soft spot.
Right on! That's awesome!
Cool! My first car was a 74 z28.....
My mom had a 78 z28 when I was a kid. I helped her pick it out at the chevy house. I remember wanting her to get one with t tops. It was an orange redish color with orange and red z28 striping. I loved that car.
That's awesome, thanks for sharing!
You got me wishing I had a 79 Camaro again now. One of my dream cars, besides a 91. But hell, those 78 - 79's are beautiful
Nothing says 70s like a dark brown car. I had two of these: an 81 and then an 80. They are great cars, easy to work on and ENDLESS potential with what you can do with them. Great video and you got a new subscriber.
305 weren't the best hp motors but there basically a 350 with less compression and cubic inches.....you can swap any sbc In there
The old videos were great but these new ones are even greater, keep up the great work and the content!!
It’s actually really cool to hear an old muscle car idle relatively quietly and smoothly like a normal car today instead of having a loud rumbley idle
People forget
These cars were just normal cars. They had to meet sound regs and everything.
Especially being that this is a Berlinetta, the "luxury" camaro.
A lot of people frown upon this generation of Camaro/Trans Am/Berlinetta as heavy regulations were set during the oil crisis. These days, a muscle car must be defined as something obnoxiously loud and powerful, but this had some quality to it.
Look what the cat dragged in!!! HAHAHA
I love the Berlinetta model, especially the stand alone tape deck on the center console! Great find.
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed watching SK04 in very long time. Please make such rescue videos in future also.
Thanks bud, I appreciate it
I had a 1977 with the same 305 in high school and college. Nice car but gutless because of all the smog gear. It brings back good memories. Love that you got it running after sitting for decades. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate the support!
Sheesh. Can’t wait to see her all cleaned up. Amazing looking car 👌🏽
You and me both! I love detailing so hopefully I'll get to cleaning it in the next couple of weeks.
Yes! This is exactly the kinds of videos we like!!!
KYLE!!!!!! Dude this right here just made my day. The second gens, especially the 78 to 81 are my favorite. All my life we've had at least one 80/81 Z28. The Z in my profile picture I've had since 94, when I was 3 and a half. It's an 80 Z28 all original minus a jegs true dual exhaust system from long tube headers back to mufflers, no cats. Car sounds like it has a cam. I love the RS and the Berlinetta. This is so badass man. Been following you for many many years...love that you love old GMs and give them so much love. Rock on brother
Thank you so much pal, I really appreciate that! Thank you for sharing that as well! This was an unexpected purchase and I'm glad I pulled the trigger on it. Looking forward to filming more content with it!
These are so cool. Brings me back to my early youth. So wanted one of these. Smokey and the bandit.
Good job Kyle, restoring this car will help its long way to immortality, a real beast. Cheers mate :)
Smooth as silk! No pings or knocks. 🤩
Really enjoyed watching this. I got a 79 camaro in 2018. Its come a long way since then but this reminded me of when i first got it. Would love to see more on this Camaro in the video. Subscribed😎👍🏁🏁🏁🏁
Im also deep into 2nd gen Camaros and I can say the 305 v8 you have there is a winner for a daily driver, these motors get hated on since they are not a 350, but once you run all the essentials (ign tune up, plugs and plug wires, oil change and clean out all those smog hoses to stop air leaks) that 305 will give you years of great mileage and trouble free operation, for years I had a 350 in my 74 camaro, and once I tried a 305 with a good torque camshaft, you really dont need anything else for your ride. Smooth bottom end response, good mileage (I get over 25 mpg with my 305) good enough power for passing and reliable as a SBC always is, your current set up will be everything you would want out of a daily driver!
Lucky! I can’t even finish my first project car. Lol but always great content.
I know the feeling, I'm juggling several at the moment LOL
Absolutely awesome. This is my favorite generation of Camaro. 👍👍
Yeah dude, they're sweet!
Awesome video Kyle this is a nice change to the channel a revivel video something new what a awesome video ran great once you got it going 👍took aoittle bit but not bad thumbs up and shared
Man plz keep this series going for us brothers... really enjoyed till the end 🤌🤌
OMG this is my dads dream car that he really wanted to drive one when he was in high school that this car was really sick in a clean condition when it came out I love these as well mostly corvettes best cars that Chevy ever made
Awesome dude!
Awesome video Kyle!
Keep it Kyle! Also, haven’t seen any Chevelle content lately. Hope that project’s coming along smoothly.
Lots of little delays, mainly with ordering parts, but I'm working on the next episode. Hopefully I'll have it up next weekend. Thanks!
Nice video Kyle!! Keep up the hard work
Thanks!
The Best Choice that would be The Wise Decision, Kyle. I can't wait to see the full restoration, bring "this guy" back to "his" golden age Buddy, you're great in a making!
Please make more of these! They are so entertaining
Its good to get your hands dirty once in a while! Loved this video!
That’s pretty cool! My grandparents told me they had one back then. Said they loved it and they never drove it in our harsh Canadian winters 😂
Very cool!
I see and smell a perfect restomod opportunity... 😌
Congrats, Kyle!
Thanks buddy!
Hi Kyle! I am a huge fan of your channel!!!!! I watch your RUclips videos every single day and I love your channel!!!! I know cars way more than 6 year old Andrew Keys! I know everyone about different makes, models, and how to pronounce their make and models. I showed this to my friends and my cousins and they love it! I love you so much Kyle!!!! I wanna spend time with you!!!!! 😊❤
Thank you buddy, that means a lot!!!
This reminds me so much of the brown 1977 Z28 I bought 20 years ago and restored in my mates garage and up my driveway. It had a 350 small block with a 4 speed manual transmission I had the original paperwork, Build sheet, pink slip for the first owner and original invoice. Only had it for six years but loved driving it around, always got looks as not very common here in the UK.
Wow, that sounds awesome man, thanks for sharing!
My favorite of the 2nd gens, cant wait to see where this is gonna go🤘🏻
We shall see! Thanks for watching!
Better than a 70 Z huh? That’s one for the books 🤣
That's awesome!
This Camaro's a beauty, but needs an awful lot of work! Please make it a project!!! 💪💪
I appreciate the feedback!
Classic cars very cool))) Thanks for video!!!=)
Awesome Kyle
Nice!!!! that is the exact car I learned to drive in when I was 16 back in 2007 except mine was a nice shade of chalky sun faded White. Funny enough that car is still on the road to this day a mechanic shop owner in my town uses it as the local daily.
Thanks for sharing! That is too cool being that you're still able to see it in use!
I thoroughly enjoyed this haha
Very Cool this 79 Camero started up my Dad used to own a 1978 Chevy Camero Z28 candy Apple blue 4 speed manual 👍 very rare to see one of these anymore 😎
Very cool! Sounds awesome!
That is really super cool!!!!!
Nice!! No blue smoke or nothing great save man its worth fixing it i hve a 79 z28 im fixing the best feeling is when it starts! Lol i know that feeling i bought it when i was younger i have a family now n hope to finish it one day
Yessir! That's awesome, thanks so much for watching!
I suggest you keep it, I have a 1980 Z28 I've had for 24 years, it's a labor of love! Them old Chevys always work! Never owe you anything!
Very cool dude!
When it wouldn't start I kept saying, I bet they disabled ignition 🤣
Rookie mistake LOLOLOL
You definitely need to get your views back up man I love your channel and I’m subscribed since I don’t remember anymore 😄 love the car 😍
I wish I could, I've tried everything. It's a RUclips issue at this point and I can't get any help on their end either 😔 I appreciate it very much buddy!
@@saabkyle04 maybe do a collaboration with some other channels like junkjarddigs or vicegripgarage, do you have a frequent upload schedule?
@@saabkyle04 why don't you try to create a new channel?
This reminds me of Chris Fix but a Saabkyle04 with a Camaro trying to get it on.
Great expirience. That old car have a soul and wanted to be driven again. Greetings from Serbia...
Thanks for watching!
Definitely want to see more!
Thanks for the feedback!
Awesome Looking camaro
I’m actually looking to do the same thing some point soon, so i’m really entertained by this

Good job Guys keep up the good work old-school cars are the best😀👍🏽
Thanks Byron!

Awesome you got a camaro
This is my dream car man, I wanna be driving on the highway listening to the cars 🥵
The Cragar SS mags are a nice touch on your mullet mobile! 😃
Cool car. Please keep it.
Gosh id love to have this just as is. I've always wanted this but not way hot rodded out with a crazy engine and fancy paint and such. Just a simple man's plain car.
GM haters (Scotty fanbois): "that gm won't last you off the lot"
Kyle with a 40 year old Chevy that hasn't been started in 23 years: hold my wrench
@Paul S why not people seem to think Toyota or Honda of 70s-80s= today
LOLOLOL
Looks HOT there Kyle
The humidity is awful!
I'm about to get me a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Has the 4.0 L Inline 6 motor and only has a 110K original miles or so. Looking forward to driving it and showing all the new car lovers how cool classics are too. :)
Awesome!
I literally started doing the same thing a few months ago. 1979 Z/28 that's been sitting for 22 years!
That is awesome dude!
@@saabkyle04 All I can say is liberally use WD-40. You'll still grow to hate u-clip nuts (if you don't already from your other projects) but it'll help. You can also buy copies of the GM and Fisher factory assembly manuals. Very handy.
dayummmmmm, I have not seen a vid of Sabb in a while, I have to say that you look run down brother.
Driving In one of these is fun it’s a cool experience driving in a old car it is nice experience I got a 1979 Camaro it’s awesome mine has a 350 engine I kinda want to LS swap mine one day
Bet those Crager S/S wheels will clean up pretty good! Vintage "80's" mod with the BF T/A's too! Even has the "big 'n little" stance to it.. Probably not worth a full resto, but get it road worthy and if the engine is still good, maybe a 4bbl and some new exhaust, clean up the interior and flip it...
It does look period correct haha. When I bought it, it had a set of old school Keystone SXM wheels. I had the Cragars lying around and figured I'd throw them on for fun. I like it more than I should probably haha. Definitely good ideas, I'm thinking the same thing.
Please keep it in and fix it up I would like to see a series on this car
Thank you for the feedback!
Wow definitely something that wants to survive
Agreed!
My favorite muscle car of all time
Kyle awesome Camaro. You will definitely get a lot of views with this Camaro project. Probably need to rebuild carb, yes major tuneup. I would replace fuel pump might not be supplying adequate volume or pressure. There is a bunch of parts still available for this Camaro project. Yes I would keep it because I myself have a 1978 Camaro. Looking forward to see your build up of your Camaro. 👍😎🛠🧰
I appreciate that bud, thank you!
Where can I find the parts? My son had a 1979 Camaro he was going to restore with his son. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could make it happen. My grandson is now 23 and wants to restore this in memory of his Dad, since they had planned this as a project for both of them. Please share
your contact or contacts for Camaro parts if you will. I know this would make my grandson's day! Thank you in advance!!
I love Camaros they are great cars and have a lot of potential
That they do!
We need to see that thing move …👍👍👍🔥😍
Yessir! I'm going to start working on it this weekend!
This reminds me of when I bought my 1980 z28 fully optioned sitting in a garage for 8 years and all original with only 80k kms on it.(Canadian car) mine was brown, but had all of the decals and extra bits from it being a z28. Interior is mint and paint is a nice patina. Bought it as my first car when I was 15. Engine blew last year, and I built a spicy 383 for it. I have videos of it on my Chanel.
Oh this transformation I want to see - that 1979 model is absolutely beautiful, even though it's a clunker right now.
Thank you Peter!
Damn I wish I had O’Reilly in my town..
"bumblebee head to the meteor landing sight no other autobot should be on earth right now which means the decepticons might've picked up your trail" only legends will remember this😉
Cool man very cool
*BUMBLEBEE!!!*
Looks like some of Junkyard Digs and/or Vice Grip Garage's work there!
I’m your biggest fan Saab kyle
Thanks buddy!
Would love to have one of those, same year that i was borned.
It's alive!!!!!!! That's Frankenstein's son! Lol
LOLOLOL
Good job with the video. Also are you still doing car reviews.
I'm stepping back from car reviews for the time being. I will still film car tours and what not, but in addition to keeping youtube up, i'm also starting a restoration business with a friend of mine. It's called K & J Design and Autoworx, LLC.
I would love to have a car like that. A friend of mine had one and I always wanted one too.
They're definitely cool!
I don’t know if you heard that clicking noise when you crank the engine over, but my guess would be that the fly wheel might be a little gummed up. You might want to clean that before it becomes a problem. Other than that, you’ve got one hell of a car there. I can’t believe it runs as good as it does after having sat for 25 years. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me.
I was super surprised myself! I'm actually in the midst of doing all of the basic service stuff and will take a look at the flywheel while it's on the lift. I'm not sure of the sound you're referring to, but I'll definitely give it a look. Thanks bud!
If I was doing a motor swap on this one, I’d build an old-school solid lifter small block 400.
Appreciate the feedback bud!
The engine sounds smooth
I was sooooo surprised. It literally looked like it was just parked. However, I don't know about the transmission yet lol.
My friend had a 79 Camaro Z28 during university she is looking for a black 79 Z28 and my bud has a 81 Camaro Z28 Red him and his son are doing a motor swap both love the second gen. Camaros
