I have a love/hate relationship with cooking. I have dozens of cookbooks I love and love to cook when I have energy. This happens on the weekends when I make the menu and go shopping. I often dread grocery shopping too. And during the week I am burned out and think, who was this person that thought I'd have enough energy to cook this meal after work?

I was for sure at the bottom of the exhaustion funnel and I had all 8 signs on your list until recently, all I did was work and sleep. All of the things I used to enjoy became a chore and I was not interested in leaving the house unless I absolutely had to. I recently started delivering food and groceries to make extra money and I've found I actually enjoy getting out and interacting with people again, I feel like it's helping my depression and making me feel better.

Ana this was such an affirming video for me. I’m just shy of 6 months pregnant with a toddler, a husband who has been sick in bed with covid for over 2 weeks and a busy (albeit part time) job. Despite the days feeling long and being stretched in lots of directions, finding the time to journal, read, paint or watch a movie (in 15 min segments) and daydream have really helped to keep my sense of identity. It’s so crucial that we build these habits in so that at our most challenging times, we feel anchored to ourselves. Stay well friend x

I'm a person with low physical energy, so my body would like to be laying on bed all day, my mind on the other side always have the itch to do things. Let me tell you that I made the mistake several times to indulge my mind forgetting my body. I learned my lesson after two burnouts. Now I try to spend half of my free time engaged in physical activities like yoga and walking, that help me calm my mind and generate a bit more of energy.

This was the perfect video for me to see this week! I've definitely been sinking down that exhaustion spiral. I'm going to try and refocus this week on doing less...but cutting out some of the draining activities (work) that I think I have treated as too much of a priority so that I can make time for more life giving things. I hope my creativity will return!

I can relate to all the 8 signs that you listed here, but I've recently started focusing more on my personal priorities (and not other people's and what they want from me). It was partly thanks to one of your recent videos ("No.1 habit to boost mental clarity & scroll less") that I've finally decided to stop procrastinating and doom-scrolling. I even signed up to Skillshare (using your link 😄) and am really enjoying learning new things that I've wanted to learn for the longest time ever, but kept postponing for various reasons (most of which are just excuses and fear-based). So thank you for the motivation! 💖

This is such an insightful video, as always, thank you. I was completely at the bottom of the funnel last year- there were dark points where I was barely eating, only exercising while either listening to my lectures or literally reading while on the treadmill, etc etc. In the end, I got top marks for the classes I was doing- but to my surprise, even though I had wanted those so badly, I couldn’t bring myself to be happy about that. That was really when my perspective shifted- I realised that no academic outcome was worth all that I had sacrificed to achieve it. I’m doing much better this year and keeping a sense of proportion and continuing to prioritise my health, mental and physical :)

Oh my! This really hit home. Caretaking has really taken its toll on me.
I recently made a list of 5 rudimentary chores for maintaining a sense of order that I need to accomplish. I made sure they were things I could accomplish within a maximum of 20 minutes. I can get so easily distracted by trying to meet the needs of my loved ones, that basic chores pile up and then I’m overwhelmed and feel as if I’m failing. I need to set myself up for a certain level of feeling successful or I’ll be impatient and irritable.
I also made a list of 5 opportunities for improvement that help to restore my sense of self. I’m going to dedicate daily a minimum of 20 minutes.
Americans might remember a kids show my daughter used to watch, The Big Comfy Couch. Lunette, the clown would do her 10 second tidy. Well, I’m doing my twenty minute tending to a sense of sanity and self.

Sometimes I feel like I can slide down the exhaustion funnel 🛝 just thinking about what I need to do. A friend of mine suggested going for a walk instead of resting. Even if it’s just around the block, it can revive you. Retirement is wonderful, but it is easy to lose the sense of urgency I had when I worked. This is a great video! 😊

oh, this video came out right as I began to think that maybe dedicating all my time to this one big thing that i don't want to do results in me just... wasting all that time. so in the end I haven't done the thing and haven't even partaken in any of my beloved hobbies. not quite what you've talked about here, but certainly when I have more to do I am more likely to do most of those things and feel more fulfilled, the day doesn't end up being so monotone. the stuff I'm not 'supposed' to be doing becomes the highlight of my day and lets me keep going!

Your video was a one for me because in church this morning the sermon was on setting your priorities. Priority number one to love God with all your heart mind and might. Then the priorities for the day come next. Do the priority that's number one first in the day and don't go on to the next until you finish that one. Your video went along with the sermon! Which cemented the message even further in my mind! Cool beans. Thanks Ana.

Very interesting. I've never heard of the exhaustion funnel. It's difficult I think because there are so many conditions now which include or develope exhaustion. For instance I have PDD part of which is lack of energy. Recently this has become much worse for me and I would now describe if as CFS chronic fatigue syndrome. Ultimately I think we have to let go of our attachments to all these labels. It strikes me the more attached we become the more obsessed we become and this does not help us escape from the rabbit hole or the funnel of our minds. We are not sick from the conditions society and doctors tells us we have. We are sick because of our mental attachment to them.
