I watched it with a highschool friend in the theater in 1999 as soon as it was released in my country. It totally blew my mind, especially because AI and a virtual world were not common things back then.
ikr, I went in blind watching this back in 99, only choosing it from the poster at the cinema, to this day it is easily in my top 5 movies of all time.
When it came out in theaters in March of 1999 it left an impression that is still felt to this day and beyond.
IN LIFE, The Answers to the most difficult questions we ask, we already know before we've even been asked. it's not about which path we're going to take (That's already been decided), it's justifying that decision to ourselves that gives us pause.

Right?! To me it sounds like the oracle says Neo is the one "you have the gift"!!! You have the gift to me means he is the one... I don't get it. 🧐
@@dailynewsgrind6116You're forgetting about the other potentials in the Oracle's apartment. They had the gift also but none of them were the One. Having the gift doesn't automatically make you the One. She told him what she told him and gave him a choice so he would make up his own mind. Morpheus said, "I can only show you the door, you have to walk through it". Which is exactly what the Oracle did.

Nice. This film literally changed everything. Nobody had ever seen anything like this before when it came out. Conceptually it freaked people out, even scared many. I had already finished my Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy so I was well versed in the concepts they play with here, but was quite surprised with how well they handled it. (Of course, they trashed it all by making pointless silly sequels but hey...)
"The Matrix" is a remake of R.W.Fassbinders "Welt am Draht" (world on a wire) 204mins, from 1973. You might not have heard of it because it was aired only once in German TV on a weekend in Oct.1973 and got lost until 2010. Matrix is a remake on steroids. Far more action, less philosophical talk. No doubts that the Wachowskis knew of it.
One of the best movies to make you think about everything or question everything. Definitely one of the best what if movies of all times
Just your first time? I was 25 back in those good ols days.. Moonwalked back in the theater 5 times .. changed my perception of things, then as I slowly started relaxing again ..9/11 .. crazy times.

Fantastic reaction to this classic masterpiece of a sci fi film. That takes me back to my childhood
You don't make decisions the way Neo had to in this on a whim. He'd been dissatisfied his whole life. An opportunity came along that intrigued him enough to know instinctively that this was what he had been looking for. Or at least get some of his questions answered. I would imagine anyone in that position even if they know they made the right decisions would have some misgivings along the way.
I love The Matrix reactions. Something about watching people watch it for the first time is entertaining. I guess I like to watch others enjoy it almost as much as I did when I saw it in the theaters back in 1999...Yeah, I'm old(er) ;)
One of the most important movies ever made and one hell of a blockbuster film too.
You should see the extras on the DVD. They said they basically ran out of money after shooting the intro scene up to the garbage truck. But when they showed it to the film company they "we've got something here." and drastically increased the budget.

The oracle didnt tell him he wasnt the one.. she was just aware that neo didnt "believe" he was the one...
Agent Smith knew to go to Room 303 because that was the same room where we first meet Trinity at the beginning of the movie. In Tank's haste, he makes the mistake of sending Neo to the same room they used before, and Smith recognized it.
Tank wasn't being hasty. That just happened to be the closest exit to Neo.
2 things about the Trinity kiss. 1) You can't fall in love with a dead person, so Trinity was in disbelief he was dead and that is why she said what she said. 2) Yes it is a sleeping beauty kiss, but technically her voice reminded him that he was still in the 'dream' world and that's when he had the epiphany that the bullets weren't real too.
Trinity was already in love with Neo before he was even unplugged. You can see this in the little things she does like at the beginning she went to releave Cypher cause she wanted to watch Neo and bringing him food. She wasn't in disbelief because she knew he wasn't dead because of what the Oracle said.
It wasn't Trinity that revived Neo, it was his death and the cookie the Oracle gave him. In the movies, food is used to inject code into whatever is consuming it. Cookies, from an Internet view, deliver identifying information to the host. So when he dies, that information let's Neo know he's not dead.

If Trinity was told she would fall in love with Neo, how different would that be if Neo was told he would be the one? I know Trinity did things like bring him food, etc but maybe she was becoming obsessed or starting to fall in love. If she was told she would fall in love, they have to walk the path
Hello Reema! This is my second best trilogy after the Lord of the Rings. Here comes some random info: Agents are antivirus programs in the Matrix.
Their suits are greenish just like the enviroment inside the Matrix. When Neo gets out his suit is actually black. Everytime he enters the Matrix his outfit upgrading if you realise it.
At 10:38 when someone holds his hands like that it doesnt look like this. You can see that they are in the Matrix.
Also the Oracle saw that Neo is not ready to take it that he is the one. So she gave her a cookie which specially written program. Kinda substance. So after Trinity kisses him, cookie activated his second level.
Agent Smith knew Neo was headed to room 303 because that's where Trinity was at the beginning of the movie. My problem is that, during that incident, Trinity said they had cut the hard line so they had to send her to the phone booth. But, if the hard line was cut, Neo couldn't get out that way, either.
I guess we're meant to assume that they fixed the line.
If you paid attention to the dialogue, Tank says to Neo; Neo: 'Mr. Wizard, get me the hell outta here'. Tank: 'I have a patch on an old exit', meaning the line was patched and useable.
That song that you hear in Neo's headphones is Disolved Girl by Massive Attack...that entire album is awesome.
most people missed this, in the 2nd movie we learn or see that food is a way to deliver and write computer code in someone, so in the first movie the oracle give neo a cookie and in the second movie she give him a hard candy ... so certain code or something is written into Neo twice of what was written or deleted of Neo the movie never says.
Smith knew where Neo was going bc thats the very same room that Trinity first appeared in. So, Neo was being predictable and therefore susceptible to an abush ir counterattack.
The lesson of predictability was pointed out by Morpheus when he planted that solid sidekick to end the first half of their sparring match, where asked, "How did I beat you?"
Neo hinted to Trinity that he understood when she said "No one has ever done anything like this." To which Neo responded "That's why its going to work."
In Reloaded, Neo figures out the real problem after he meets a certain entity where he says, "______, the problem is _______."
This is my all-time favorite film bc it has soo many dimensions, which all work together. Theres religion/spirituality, eastern philosophy and much more.
When this movie came out, many people had existential meltdowns!
Did you catch the religious angles? Morpheus is John the Baptist. John knows the Obe is coming. The Oracle tells/tasks Morpheus with identifying and amd baptising. Jesus thereafter goes up into a mountain to find his purpose. On the mountain, he was tested by Lucifer. That's roughly what Morpheus does when his team disconnects him and rebuilds his body.
As far as the temptation, that was obvious. The two main weapons of the Adversary are fear and doubt. Who tried to discourage Neo from realizing hus purpose? It was Cipher.
Cipher is a decent name bc it refers to a code. Thats cool, but there's a different meaning to his name. That refers to the part of his name that you dont see, a code of sorts.
Going back to the story, Jesus is tempted by the Devil. What other names does the Devil have? What's his angelic name? Isn't it Lucifer Morningstar? Look at the first name more closely, Lucifer... or luCIPHER!!! Yeah, that blew my mind too!
Among the disciples, it was Judas who betrays Jesus. He bettays him for monetary gain (30 pieces of silver). In the movie, Cipher bargains to be made into someone important (and rich).
In the last act of the movie, Trinity demonstrates her love and faith after Neo is "killed" in the Matrix. She delivers "true loves kiss," a play on Snow White.
Neo is revived by the kiss and realizes his power to become The One. The Savior must die in order to be reborn into his higher purpose. We see it here, and we've seen it in the first MCU Thor movie.
I also dont think its an accident that Morpheus' ship is named the Nebuchadnezzar. Another ship is named the Logos, which means "the word" in Greek, one of the two languages the siurce language of the New Testament portion of the Christian bible. Still another ship is named 'the Hammer,' which I think is a Thor reference (the Norse Jesus) to his hammer, Mjilonir. The name of the last human city being Zion should also stand out to you.
Theres much more, but that should be enough to prove my theory.
What can you find that I haven't pieced together? Idk everything....
Neo wasn't being predictable, Tank led him to that room cause it was the only close exit. Smith knew he was going there because it was the only exit in the vicinity. Tank didn't know Smith would get there before Neo.
The Greek god Morpheus shaped the lives of all; from the ordinary person to the highest royal in Greek myth. He brought dreams to the sleeping, which upon waking, would motivate them toward action. Which is what Morpheus did for all the minds he freed.
Jesus and Judas were friends. Neo never considered Cypher to be his friend. And it was Morpheus he betrayed, not Neo. Cypher was going to kill Neo, not hand him over. No parallel here.
It wasn't Trinity's kiss that brought Neo back, it was his death. And also the Oracle's cookie. The cookie was something used to inject a code into him so when he died the cookie rebooted him. Cookies, in terms of the internet, send identifying information to the host.
Neo didn't know anything about Trinity before they met. And I doubt Trinity told him off-screen that she was in 303 of some hotel when she was ambushed.
Also, Neo didn't choose that room. He just went where he was told to go. I'm not entirely sure why there seem to be so few "hardlines" in that world (like if that hotel had one in 303, why not in 304 as well? And why is there just the lone phonebooth in the subway, and then they had to run god-knows-where for the next hardline? Why didn't the building that the Oracle is in have one?)
Either way, they needed a "hardline", and Smith knew that. So he merely had to wait in a room that had one...

"but then you'll realize you don't believe in all this fate crap. you're in control of your own life."

303 is the room trinity was in at the beginning of the movie
The Matrix was in 1999 and John Wick was 2014. If anything, John Wick put that "guns" quote in as just a fun homage to Keanu's most well-known role inThe Matrix. Several of Arnold Schwarzennegger's movies use to include "I'll be back" in them just because it was Arnold and they knew throwing it in would give the audience a laugh.
The Matrix is waaaayyyyy more complex than John Wick,much more deeper.
To be jacked into the Matrix, someone else has to insert the plug into your head and then load you into the Matrix from the computer, so I've always wondered:
Who did this for Cypher to facilitate his meeting with the agents to double-cross Morpheus?
Who was Cypher's accomplice?

Neo is an INTP, Morpheus is an ENFP, Cipher is an ESTP, Trinity is an ISTP, agent Smith is an ISTJ, tank is an ESFJ, Dozer is an ISFJ. These are just seven of the 16 personalities. Go down a deep 🐇 hole with the 16 MBTI personalities.
Personality profiles are designed to keep us separate instead of keeping us united or _One_ . They put people in little groups so they will feel better being isolated with people _like_ themselves rather than with everyone. The defining of something is what makes it a piece and not a whole.
@Cloud_Strife0811 you are very sadly mistaken on what those personalities can do for society. First off, nothing has worked in the last 10 thousand years under how this world is being run by the hierarchy structure. The whole point of those personalities is one, getting people to understand who they are, where they fit in society, and what they can contribute to society. Two, if everyone knew who the others' personalities are , they would know how to engage and understand each other much better. Co-workers, neighbors, family members basically entire society. Parents would know how to raise their children without all the problems most have if they knew their personality. For example, my situation. My dad is an ISTJ-A, same as the ESTJ's top war machines.They are very closed-minded and just think in black and white. Extremely traditional. They pretty much just do as they are told without questioning the reasoning. Example, the high ups say go kill these people from a different country. They will just do it, but really, they need to ask themselves why they are killing someone they never met, have no real beef with, and are they lying to me just for their own gain? What bad motivation do they really have in mind that they want me to end an innocent life. And that is a big problem when the majority of the world's population are (Sentinel war machine mongols ). So, back to the other point, I'm an INTP-T, a very open-minded person. Let's just say we didn't get along pretty much like Neo INTP, agent Smith ISTJ. Basically, my dad tried to raise me like his personality, and things didn't go well at all. Cause and effect/ he tried to raise me to be something I'm not, and in return, he created a TURBULENT child. If everyone was an A / ASSERTIVE, then things would be much different. So if you want to erase and get rid of the TURBULENT folks, a change will be needed. But that will be extremely hard considering over 60% of the world's population are Sentinels and they are extreme traditionalist and don't like change. So let me know when you do some homework on this subject and prove me wrong. Please try and prove me wrong. So if you really want to see people as ONE, you know what to do. The biggest problem are the damn closed-minded TJ'S. The INTJ ENTJ, ISTJ, and the ESTJ'S. Especially those last two from the Sentinel group. They make up the majority of any racism we can see because history does not LIE. The four TJ'S are extremely power and control freaks. But to answer your question, yeah, it kinda calls out who's who, and we now know who the real problem is, again history and numbers DO NOT LIE. The war machine Sentinel group is very strict. But the strictness comes from the J. There is no INTUITION or PERCEIVERS in that group. They are very JUDGING.

This is something you learned from someone who invented these personality profiles and not something you came to of your own accord. The English language is such a good tool to brainwash you with that you don't even realize it. If nobody made this stuff up, how would you interact/react with other people? Everything you know was taught to you by someone. Learning something that someone else made up isn't intelligence, it's memorization. You can't think for yourself because everything you know was thought up by someone else so your thinking like them, you're not using your own mind to interpret life. So you might want to marinate on that before you go telling someone they are wrong and need to do research on something. Because in truth, you have no idea😶🤯

You must not watch a lot of reactions for this movie, cause the reactions I've seen the people get it. They say it right there in the movie. Neo: "If you're killed in the Matrix, you die here"? Morpheus: "The body cannot live without the mind".
The Matrix was released 25 years ago ! 1999 was a great year for cinema : fight club ,magnolia, American beauty, been john malkovich, and others

I agree with the meh if the third but the second is not great. It has one of the greatest chase sequences in movie history. The rest is mediocre to poor. The first movie is an A. The second B- The third is a D+.

The progression of the destruction of humanity by artificial intelligence (IMHO):
Humans create the conditions in I, Robot. Those conditions lead to The Animatrix.
One specific story in The Animatrix (you can easily guess which one) results in The Terminator.
The fallout from The Terminator culminates in the creation of the Matrix. What's your opinion? 🤔

This movie (1999) doesn't have a reference to John Wick 3 (2019), it's the other way around, but yes, Keanu says "Guns, lots of guns" in both movies. The 2nd and 3rd movies are not as good as this one, but the trilogy is satisfactory, specially the "real world" action scenes in the 3rd movie. Many people wanted a 4th movie for as long as I can remember, unfortunately it was a HUGE disappointment, I wouldn't recommend watching it.
About time ! one of the best flicks of all time so many amazing references and things to consider and seriously think about,thinks that are more and more a possible future reality ! This is soo cool,coupled with amazing action and effects especially for the time it came out this was jaw dropping.

U can skip 4, same for John wick. But don't miss, Constantine!!! I still say, this and most movies about humans, computers technology, the basic story line, comes from the original movie, Tron! Tho the matrix trilogy is heavy on Bible themes, names, etc. Jesus vs Satan, good vs evil, miracles, the individual vs big government, etc.

Fun, deep film. This movie is about free will and breaking free of the machine. Unfortunately, the second and third movies (while watchable) are philosophically inconsistent with this movie. The fourth movie is absolute garbage and completely unwatchable. I can't stop you from watching them, just be prepared to be disappointed in them.
