- Operation Newfound was to be a swift and comprehensive victory in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade! But the doom of civilization! Chaos itself! Is not so easily thwarted. The Imperial Navy committed themselves to Warmaster Slaydo's plans only to be stopped by Chaos fleet forces in the void and Heretical Cultists on the ground where Heritor Asphodel and his woe machines ground the Imperial Guard to a bloody mess! Until the titan god machines could be prodded into action.

That art of the Emperor class Titan at 15:34 is awesome, it's half way between the early 2000's Lucius pattern Mech type and the OTT Baroque style GW has leaned into since about 2010ish, I love it, this truly looks like a hi-tech machine that's been adornded by superstitious primitives...I wish GW's design looked like this instead of just puttung skull's and church arches on everything

This Heritor Asphodel guy sounds like he missed his calling. Would have made a great Iron Warrior. Just needs to be a bit saltier.
The description of him sounds pretty spot on for an Iron Warrior actually.
You can tell this campaign was written by the British. The operation code names are not such delights as Sabbat Raging Justice 1-12.
Raging Justice, Desert Storm, Overlord, Unthinkable, Earnest Will, Urgent Fury, Ranchhand, Trail Dust, Eagle Claw, Eager Glacier. Some times you really can just tell which nation used that name.
I do like the idea of a chaos faction that doesnt necessarily view the imperium as an enemy

Can you do a deep dive on the mechanics of a Space marine founding? How exactly do they do it? How do they allocate the gene seat for the new chapters? How do they select the chapters that will create successors? And how did they assign the new fleets and planets to the newly minted chapters? I've got theories based off of what I've inferred from the lore, But nothing concrete has been stated yet, so I'm not sure.
Unfortunately that's not really a process we get a deep glimpse into at any point. Unless Black Library wants to cater to Perun fans, a novel centered on defense logistics in 40k like would be required to show how a chapter is founded would be very difficult to write and likely not super popular.

@@SittingOnEdgeman 40k defense logistics sounds like the kind of autistic deep dive the setting could only benefit from.
From what I have read the Imperium will spend decades or centuries building the necessary equipment and using clone bodies to produce a stockpile of gene-seed. Many new chapters don’t start with homeworlds, although the lucky ones will have their first generation officers be veterans from their parent chapter.
So glad you are doing these Arch, Gaunt's Ghosts is my favorite 40k books and setting in them

I love the Sabbat World's Crusade. I love how it portrays the forces of Chaos as build around and driven by mortal(ish) charismatic leaders. Mad scientists, demagogues, and cult leaders instead of Chaos space marines. I love the legions too, but the depiction fo Chaos forces here has so much character that it makes me wish we got more fo it in 40k generally.
I don't get excited when new movies are announced. I get excited when Arch drops new episodes his War of... series
I think I read somewhere on one of the 40k wiki sites that Asphodel isn’t really affiliated with the Mechanicus at all - not even the Chaos-flavored ones - and that he managed to come up with and build all of his fancy toys without any of their training. That being the case, I think the Mechanicus themselves instigated the rumors that he had past connections to them in an attempt to cover up the truth, as the idea of people starting to think ‘Hey, that guy built some cool stuff without the Cog Boys’ help, why don’t we give it a try?’ must be truly terrifying to them, so it would probably be safer to have them think the two were connected than otherwise. In such a situation, I could imagine Slaydo using that information as blackmail against the Mechanicus to get them to send in the Titans, since threatening to reveal that Asphodel wasn’t a rogue Tech-Priest and was in fact just as smart if not smarter than them would be far more embarrassing, especially when people learned they had tried to cover up the truth

It was reclassified as a dwarf planet again.
The entire thing that declassified it as a planet was a vote and a lot of scientists, even dudes who support it not being a planet, dislike the notion of classification becoming a sort of quasi-politics.
Also apparently depending on what field you study it can greatly affect your opinion on the matter. Me personally I've always said it was a planet anyways.

Another amazing video and these series are phenomenal and detail oriented.
I find it odd that in outer space, having "" pivotal "" battles over singular planets actually matters very much. In real life it would take decades to restore social order and resume the production of resources the military would require.
The fact "close proximity" is measured in terameters, should be a good idea of just how vast "space" is, and ( in real life ) how easily an enemy could sail past a picket fleat undetected.
In real life, the same kind of tactics were used in WW1 and WW2 for naval fleets. Using the vast size of the oceans to simply bypass enemy naval vessels.
Edit: the entire war strategy is based on the assumption everything is two dimensional space and enemy fleets are unable to move in a three dimensional space.

This series so far hasn't been hitting as well for me as Armageddon, Vraks, or Badab and I think I know why: so far it's been nothing but Imperium, Imperium, Imperium 90+% of the time, with only scant mentioning of the Chaos forces and what they're doing. We need more seen from their perspective to balance it out, I think.
