  • Firstly - I would like to use this description section to apologise for the long drawn out amateur footage of me rambling on and on. I know i do it and I JUST CANT HELP IT. So to all my loyal subscribers - thank you for being patient.
In this video I show from start to finish how to clean uk coins from start to finish to make them spendable again.
THIS IS NOT FOR NUMISMATICS PURPOSES
THIS IS NOT FOR VALUABLE COINS
THIS IS NOT FOR COLLECTABLE COINS
THIS IS NOT FOR HISTORICAL FINDS
THIS IS SIMPLY JUST FOR SPENDIES.
go ahead and experiment using this method, but only on coins you want to use again and put back into circulation.
THE ABOVE MENTIONED IS VERY IMPORTANT!! And I can't stress it enough.
Anything not spendable DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN IT. NOT EVEN A LITTLE RUB. JUST LEAVE THEM TO THE EXPERTS AND GET ANYTHING 300+ years checked out and recorded by the PAS (portable antiquities scheme).
    This video is method #1
I will try and upload a different method every week and then a final video experimenting all the gone over methods to see which one reigns supreme.
Until then please like and subscribe if you haven't already and good luck and happy hunting to all.
    180 Felixstowe Hunter

Enjoyed the vid. I reckon when you mix the metals you are creating a battery and the current flow is transferring metal from one coin onto another. Self powered electrolysis in fact, is happening and this would explain the pink coloured pound coins you can get. My tip is to use funny coloured coins in a parking meter or as you say keep coins of the say type together only when cleaning. Thanks I learned a lot watching this and will subscribe.

Coinstar dude! I dont know if there are Coinstar machines available in the UK but in the States, I "coinstar" all of my clad. You have the option of taking an Amazon gift card and that prevents the commission. I enjoyed the video though and I will apply these tips to some of my keeper finds.

The Gt.Yarmouth pleasure beach tokens cost £1 each, & are usually a brass colour. As they are just for the rides, it should not matter what colour they really are, as I have seen some really dirty ones. (I used to live in Yarmouth)

Hey Felixstowe love the content and amazing info you share which helps a damn lot for newbies like myself :) I have found loads of old one pound coins which are rough in texture and orange/brown looking with one of them from 2003 with the writing on the side upside down is this an error and valuable? How would I clean these without damaging them?
    Thanks 👍

I have pennies from 1779, how do I clean them? Only way I’ve found is electrolysis with baking sodA. Purely cause at first we couldn’t see anything on them so thought we’d try the above, but now they look very shiny, almost fake! Where have we gone wrong? 🤔🤨

    • @180FelixstoweHunter
      @180FelixstoweHunter  4 года назад +1

Unfortunately you can over do it sometimes and ruin coins. That's why I suggest only seconds some times. I would recommend soaking in olive oil in a sealed container for a month. Just leave them and give it a little shake every now and then. If a coin isnt spendable I do not clean them with anything as a rule! Just a little rub with something fine and some water. Remember _ cleaning artifacts devalues them. So only clean anything you don't have interest in getting rid of.
      Cheers 👍
