I bought a 1948 Model 78 Oldsmobile from the original owner , this was in 2007 . The car had been setting in a garage for a year . Great shape , new interior , straight 8 and Hydramatic . Recent paint job and looked decent . Rebuilt the carb , brakes , tune up and got it running again with out any problems . I bought new either Kumho or Hancook tires and buffed the narrow whitewall to show the wide whitewall . Heck of a lot cheaper than what Coker gets for their wide whitewalls . I drove the old Oldsmobile for a few months and decided I had better sell it before I got the urge to do an engine upgrade and spend a lot of money on it . I sold the car to guy up in Pennsylvania that has old cars he rents to movie producers , the Olds looked great parked along side his collection . Really neat old car that I was told about by his family members that own a restaurant I go to regularly . I'll follow your progress , keeping posting cool videos .
My Dad ran a gas station in Oklahoma in the mid sixties. He bought a 48 Olds off of a little old lady. It was black on the outside and he cleaned and polished it, putting it for sale. I was in remarkable shape and it sold in just a few days. At the time any car older than 10 years was just ancient and nearly worthless.
Love the Torpedo bodies. Rescued a 65 Olds Convertible in similar shape. 20 years and 50k later it is 95% done. Car Guys have some gene in them that makes this hot our heart like an ASPCA commercial.
- As a former young passenger in a '48 Silver Streak I have to recommend returning this beast to some semblance of it's former glory or giving it to someone who will. Style has gone out of style. It's a beaut.
Good to see you still making videos after all these years, Brent. I've been watching you since before I could drive, now I'm 30 and a collector of rusty old GM cars lol. I'm currently working on a 48 Chevy truck from my grandparents, and they have an Oldsmobile just like this one
My grandfather owned one of these. Before I was born. Bought it new. Got pictures. Gorgeous car. By the time I came along, he upgraded to a 62 Chevy Impala. I do remember that car.
Bought a 48 Olds sedan off the streets in NYC around 1973,no engine or trans, bad steering box.Drove for years after installing 283 & auto trans . ,Reliable & fun to drive.
Looking forward for the revival next year! The interior looks mint compared most abandoned cars that are 30 years newer!. The old MN licence plates are similar to the last generation of Ontario plate before the early 90'sThe 53 Oldsmobile owned by the one of the twin brothers that Coldwarmotors visits has hydraulic powered windows.
What a great car. Imagine buying a car like that new in 1948 and driving for the first time from the dealer to home. I would have a smile bigger than my face
Gramps had one, my Dad drove it in his teenage years. He became quite attached to it, still have photos he took, Gramps traded it in for a new ‘57 Super 88 2dr. My earliest memories are of riding in that car.
I love vids like this! it's heartwarming to know there are still barn finds out there. The Olds looks remarkably solid, esp. the interior. I'd get her running and keep the patina! You have a new subscriber. (Matt '50 Merc and '49 Chev)
The little 'cartoon thing' is most likely a 'BAZOOKA JOE and his GANG' bubblegum comic. They were included in individually wrapped pieces of gum starting in 1953. Does he have a black eyepatch and blue cap? If so, that's him! You gotta love the grill, instrument panel, steering wheel, and contour body lines on this Olds. It'll be cool to see the decades of exterior dust washed off. Will be watching on this one!
Neat car for sure. I have a 1959 Olds 98. I love old Oldsmobiles, but I already have 5 antique cars and can't afford another car. I bought a 1939 DeSoto in about the same condition as this 1948 Oldsmobile. I hope to have the DeSoto running in 2025.
We had a 41 Pontiac Tudor sedan from 1969 thru 2010.. She was a 6 cylinder, and two tone grey..identical under the hood to your car. I would suggest you clean it up and get it going as is. You will be amazed whats under the dust and dirt. The 6 cylinder engine is really very strong. Make sure the throttle linkage is straight up secure. Good luck..new subscriber from Litchfield County Ct..
Great video greetings from the UK some interesting things, hope the Durrant got saved too, looking forward to seeing the olds washed and put back on the road ❤
Keep in mind, those wheel bolts on the drivers side, are darn near guaranteed to be 'reversed threads'... I other words, to loosen them, you actually need to turn the wrench clockwise ... As if you were 'tightening' them... The passengers side is 'normal'... You turn your wrench to the left, to loosen ... 🔧
Cool old car. Interior is the same material and pattern as my 51 pontiac. Drag the other cars out also. Where there's a will there a way. Good kick. 👍👍🇬🇧☃️
I would say that car is pretty rare, it had a very pretty high end interior for the day. It would be a very nice car restored to it's complete beauty. My Mother bought a new Corvair in Oklahoma City in late 64 or 65. At the time she was a life insurance seller and she thought it would be great to keep her personal records in the front storage area. First night she had it a terrible storm rolled thru and filled the front storage area and all her records full of water. Totally ruined every piece of paper there. The dealer did give her back her money but not much could be done for the papers. Going far into the future I was driving in Houston my home town and was following a corvair, the rear center engine mount was broken and the engine was bouncing up and down like one of those bobble head dolls you would see in the rear glass of some older cars. After service I was working my entire life as a mechanic and did work on a few of those engines. It was almost impossible to stop the oil leaks. It reminds me of a quote from an old Marine talking about poor equipment and he said the Marine Corps wouldn't own it unless it leaked oil. If my memory serves me they were talking specifically about that GM diesel selling in the trucks at the time.
Wow another one, I have the same car, same color! I am missing the seats and visor, otherwise looks like a twin. On the list to build, very cool body style.
I came home from the hospital when I was born in a 1949 bullet back Olds. My dad repainted it emerald green with a green and white tuck n roll interior to match. Had a healthy cam and a 4 speed.
Neat old car. Growing up we had a few junk cars setting around. I wish I had the 39 Chevy. It was in great shape, had transmission troubles.. probably got scraped. ..pex
Ohh if that old boy could talk, He still has alot of protentional left in him, Would make a badass moonshine running car lol. Can't wait to see what ya do with it Bah :)
I'm surprised that after 54 years, the interior of that '48 Olds is not eaten up to absolute shreds! Just take a look at other "will it run" YT vids to see what I'm talking about.
i dont know if you put that blacj car on wood , but that is the best way to store it if your not going to jack it up and put it on stands. the wood will keep the moiture from seizing the wheels up
Excellent Video BAH 53 :) also hope see runs sometime to and hope future videos on see if run on own power too! Plus Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2025 too !
My sister has a 1958 Packard sedan. It was sitting for a few years. It started right up after i put a new battery and fresh gas in it. Unfortunately, the brake pedal goes to the floor. She is going to have a shop fix it up.
Tell her to NOT allow the tow truck to tow it with the rear wheels on the ground. That will destroy the transmission, which I'm sure is an automatic. You CAN NOT tow a vehicle with automatic with the drive wheels on the ground. It destroys automatic transmissions.
@jamesbosworth4191 Yes it was built by Studebaker. It was sitting in a barn in Missouri for 30 years. She had it towed to Illinois. It cost a fortune, but she really wanted it. The body is nice. It stayed out of the sun and climate all those years. I have a few videos of it on my channel.
I own a 1947 Olds Series 76 with hydramatic in that same body style (basically the same car with some minor trim differences). Any chance you could post up the tire size of yours...Previous owner on mine wanted to hotrod it and stuck bigger tires on the back ans smaller tires on the front. Those engines behind it are not for that car...Until the Rocket V8 in 49 all 40's Olds cars were flatheads. The engines behind it look like probably Chevy Stovebolt 6's...That and the Buick Fireball straight 8 were the only OHV engines GM sold until the similar 48 Caddy and 49 Olds V8s. Kinda would like to find a beefier 40's-50's GM 8 Cylinder that would bolt up to my hydramatic...The Flathead 6 will get it up to interstate speed if held to the floor...But I'd like to get something that can hold that speed easier.

Where in Oklahoma? My inlaws owned a station in Addington
@@gbaker9295 Ada and his station was at 14th and Mississippi. It's a 1930's building and it is still there

they sure had real style back in those days. I am 49 and appreciate the old vehicles.

What a beauty I can’t wait to hear her run again when that time comes. You have become the king of being very old cars back to life.
My grandfather owned one of these. Before I was born. Bought it new. Got pictures. Gorgeous car. By the time I came along, he upgraded to a 62 Chevy Impala. I do remember that car.

Amazing that old girl isn't all rotted away..In far better condition than the building it's in

Imagine having so many cars lost in time, just waiting for the roof to cave in!!
I can't.
The little 'cartoon thing' is most likely a 'BAZOOKA JOE and his GANG' bubblegum comic. They were included in individually wrapped pieces of gum starting in 1953. Pretty cool to see the old pie crust slick on the left front of the car..
Good job saving the old iron, keep up the good work I'll be watching.
Please save it 😭🙏. What a beautiful car 😍. You can do it 💪.
Love the grill design, cool car!
We had a 41 Pontiac Tudor sedan from 1969 thru 2010..

I love that oldsmobile... please keep it out of harms way !
Not even too bad, the interior despite it has seen better days. Looks still intact and complete.
Yeah the headliner is still hanging in there.
Great video greetings from the UK some interesting things, hope the Durrant got saved too, looking forward to seeing the olds washed and put back on the road ❤

That thing is all there. He took some good precautions preserving it.
I would say that car is pretty rare, it had a very pretty high end interior for the day. It would be a very nice car restored to it's complete beauty. My Dad had one just like that, Hydromatic , Straight 8 !
Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
Wow another one, I have the same car, same color! I am missing the seats and visor, otherwise looks like a twin. On the list to build, very cool body style.
You could put wheel dollies under that Corvair and some heavy plywood, then slide it sideways over to where the Olds was.
I assume you already know, but there is an article about this car on autoevolution. Congratulations on getting some recognition!
The body lines are unparalleled!
I came home from the hospital when I was born in a 1949 bullet back Olds. My dad repainted it emerald green with a green and white tuck n roll interior to match. Had a healthy cam and a 4 speed.
Hard to Imagine someone custom made a cam an d a intake for a straight 8 which I think was a flat head
Neat old car. Growing up we had a few junk cars setting around. I wish I had the 39 Chevy. It was in great shape, had transmission troubles.. probably got scraped. ..pex
Love the mid 50's Mercury Outboard
Love these old times machines ❤❤❤❤❤
Great video, cool car!!!
What a beautiful car
Beautiful car!😍
Ohh if that old boy could talk, He still has alot of protentional left in him, Would make a badass moonshine running car lol. Can't wait to see what ya do with it Bah :)
That's pure cool😊
Too bad it is an automatic. Sparse list of parts available to fix those. I thought I was a procrastinator, but a year to move one car! You win
Come on,save the corvair too. They aint makin them any more and its historic.
That little cartoon appears to be a Bazooka Joe sheet which was wrapped around, you guessed it, Bazooka Bubble Gum. Narragansett Bay
I'm surprised that after 54 years, the interior of that '48 Olds is not eaten up to absolute shreds! Just take a look at other "will it run" YT vids to see what I'm talking about.
I would love to have one of those...
Can you take the Corvair out the other side of the shed by removing the siding?
Another worthy project
It's a buetiful car👍🏻👍🏻wow
Body lines are beautiful.... that'll make a great hotrod.
i dont know if you put that blacj car on wood , but that is the best way to store it if your not going to jack it up and put it on stands. the wood will keep the moiture from seizing the wheels up

That's one of the final "Packardbakers" - a tarted up Studebaker badged and sold as a Packard. These were scarce when new, now are almost all gone.
@@trr5291 Elizabeth Montgomery, the star of Bewitched, had one of those.
@jamesbosworth4191 Yes. It's the same exact car, only my sister's is black. It was repainted at some point. We do not know the original color.
that is a cool car!!!
You need to sell these cars. In the condition you keep them you're doing more damage then good.
I agree 100%.
I remember this song being played in the 70s on the # 1 radio station in East Saint Louis, Illinois. W E S L
Dad had a blue Pontiac looking a bit like you car this was in 1963 . 🇦🇺.
Perhaps your cousin backed off the brakes when he put the car up in the air. Nice video.
Looks like this was a cool old building at one time.
Did your family ever get rid of any cars throughout the Generations??
Please work on keeping your camera steady. It tends to make one dizzy. really enjoyed this video.
Dont move that camera around so much. You making us all seasick.
Yeah, stop moving YOUR camera you bought all around in YOUR video you made
Was that an animal in that rim at 24:59 or a leaf?
that corvair must be saved too !!!!!!
Some guy was talking about newer running gear. Heck some of those old guys at the Pomona swap meet get there old cars running like a cream puff.
It’s a keeper…..😊
Drug out? shouldn't that be dragged out?
LH threads on LH wheels. Symbol L on wheel studs.
That Corvair and VW are worth a couple of bucks. I’d get them out and let someone use them for parts or bring them back to life.
Nearly 18 minutes before getting a tractor to pull that old car out of the shed?
Would be a good idea to grab that merc outboard
How much for the 48 Oldsmobile
I want more info on that 71 Chevy pickup
Amazing Thank you for sharing Great old car
Take the wall out of the other side of the barn in front of the corner to roll it out .😊
Beautiful 1948 oldsmobile
Looks like it's time for a yard sale! What a waste. I'm sure there's good iron in there someone could use.
48 must have been the last year for flathead 6
Thought we'd at least get to see what it looked like washed off.
Do all of that stuff a favor and sell it to someone with the means to save it.
And you ignored that vintage Mercury outboard?? Maybe you don't see value in things other than cars?? Good video.
👍👍
save it pull it and sell it moving on down the road cheers
I own a 1947 Olds Series 76 with hydramatic in that same body style (basically the same car with some minor trim differences). Gee it has Hydra-Matic!
MAN THE OLDS & CHEVY ARE VERY LITTLE DIFFERENT BETWEEN THOSE TWO ITS CLOSE TO MY 46 CHEVY COUPE !
that car would be cool to drive looking like that all dirty lol
Corvairs are cool.
Not a rescue then.🤷♂️
probly would be good to sale these cars before they are totaly done
If the makers of The Blaire Witch Project made a car video
One of the viewers was correct, the little cartoon thing used to come in chewing gum. Bazooka joe..pex
bah53, Why don't you do something that's not just like every other RUclips channel. Revive the Corvair. Ask me how.
Wow a simca in America
I would like to have that outboard engine if you don't want it.
And you ignored that vintage Mercury Outboard?? You missed out on some money!!
Would you be interested in selling the olds ?!??
TU n'as pas froid à ce que je vois Tu as le Sang Chaud Une Vraie BOUILLOTTE tu n'es pas tellement Couverte t'es plus abituer que Moi à ces températures Chez moi j'ai Froid Actuellement en te regardant
it'll run. I'd take that walking tractor tiller off your hands ha ha
