    Thanks so much! I’ve been playing for over 4 years and used to be able to play so many things, but when I got braces, my embouchure got completely messed up and your videos have helped me go back to the basics :)

    This indeed applies to a Double Wagner Tuba in Bb/F, it has the same fingerings & range as a French Horn but there's no need to put your hand up the Bell. Also the Wagner Tuba sound falls in between a French Horn & a Trombone so it sounds amazing. French Horns actually come in various keys other than Bb & F, like the Eb Alto Horn from Miraphone. The reason why Horns in every key are becoming more popular is due to their improved sound & bigger tonal color pallet.

      Is it the top or bottom C? For top C make sure you are supporting from your core and taking lots of deep breaths. For bottom C, relax your lips and still take deep breaths. Hope this helps! :)

    I have taken up the baritone (sax)horn which is in Bflat - no, don't turn away in disgust, I think it could be quite fun - and I should think what you tell us about the French Horn should translate to the baritone. I tried your C against my keyboard and fancy this is the second space in the Bass clef but I could be quite wrong as my ear is just terrible at distinguishing the octaves.
    Be that as it may, I can work out - with tremendous mental effort - how C can be obtained unvalved in F mode as the third partial (or sixth, if I have my octaves wrong) but as to Bflat mode I'm flummoxed. I believe the baritone is pitched the same as the French Horn in Bflat mode but cannot imagine how I can get C on my instrument without using valves.
    What am I missing?

    I'm picking the french horn back up after years and I'm basically back to basics. I am having a really hard time hitting middle C. Every time I try to hit C my tuner says it's Db. It seems like the tiniest change will push it down to C but then it might also jump to B instead. D - A I can hit practically first try with no problems.
    Any suggestions or tips on how to fix this problem?

      Start each practice with long notes. A lot of playing is about muscle memory. Your lips will need time to remember what a C, D etc feels like :) Keep up the good work

    How do you realx the lips

    • @TheBrassTeacher
      @TheBrassTeacher  3 года назад

      Start with long low tones and work your way up. You should notice a difference between tighter lips the higher up you go and vice versa on the way down : )
