    I think the reason why Shao Wei was underrated, or to be more accurate, received poorly was because people initially expected it to be something like Hu Ben on shoulders. Something that you can shoot for a long period of time, dealing constant DPS, but you would be penalized for overheating it. Instead it is a pressure weapon where you would unleash in short bursts, keeping your opponent's stagger bar up while dealing good damage at the same time. Also, it is a pretty 'busy' shoulder weapon since it is a machine gun that overheats fast but also cools down fast, so you have to remember to press down whenever it is available. Personally I think the Shao Wei is a great close range shoulder weapon. It isn't crazy at doing one thing, but it is a nice balance of reliable DPS, stagger damage, and punish.

    • @Shedovv
      @Shedovv 6 месяцев назад +7

      Thats pretty much it. Honestly if I was in charge of this at From. I would have made 3 Weapons rather than the one. Or rather. I would have made the Shao-Wei. And then I would have made an actual Shoulder Hu-Ben and a Copy of Shao-Wei's for Hand use. That way we would get an ability to choose where we want our Pressure Gatlings and where we want our DPS Gatlings. Though that would result in a bit of bloat, since its basically the same weapon copy-pasted.
      Maybe making a couple new OS Tuning upgrades that function kinda like the weapon bays. But instead allow you to mount shoulder weapons in your arms and arm weapon into shoulder slots would work better? Maybe do both of these?

      A modded the new gatling to be as good as a Turner and it's the most overpowered thing in the universe. Definitely not a good idea.
      When you compare them with OTHER back weapons, it becomes clear that it's supposed to augment your hand weapons accumulated impact.

      i use one on my main ranked build, i definitely get a lot out of feathering the trigger, rather than burning it up. it definitely keeps people worrying about me, instead of my dual homing missiles, jav bazooka, and lance
      force a couple bad dodges, and they eat either the missiles or zook, and that's a lance DH xD

      Yeah, I'm betting it was something like this too. It's _very much_ a different kind of weapon from the Hu-Ben, despite being a gatling. It's a cool idea, making it fill out not only a different weapon niche, but one that was pretty much exclusive to the Huxley!

    Idk who needs to hear this, but if you're using the Huxleys, please learn to turn them off without letting them overheat. If you can get a feel for the timing, you can go 7-10 seconds on and 7-10 seconds off, and even if you're not perfect, you can get close to 50% uptime. The increase in uptime feels surprisingly impactful but I see tons of people who just let them shoot out of range or just hover there, and then overheat.
    Edit: just checked, as mentioned in this video if you overheat them you get 11 up /14 down, but I timed mine at 9 up/9 down for full cooling. That's an improvement from 44% to 50%, which is not huge, but definitely impactful especially if you toggle off when you are out of range or you do not need the extra acs buildup at the time

Because the weapon (before overheating) cools extremely fast. Meaning you can tap the buttons without even overheating it ever. Which I am able to do. Almost never overheats for me and works just fine.

    I use Shao Wei to keep pressure on my opponent and not letting the stagger bar recover, its cooldown its short therefore you can use it on multiple agengements. The Huxley has automatic tracking, better dps and better stagger buildup in a short amount of time, but you have to pay attention and manually give it a lot of breaks to avoid the very long cooldown.

    • @Zeromaru42
      @Zeromaru42 6 месяцев назад +4

      Shao Wei is also great on Quad Gatling builds like I run sometimes for dealing with fellow Tank users who have gone to the Dark side of the Meta. By the time my normal Gatlings are on cooldown I can keep up the pressure with the Shao Wei and if both aren't on Cooldown I can get in their faces and go full Heavyarms on their ass. It may not be super practical against lighter builds who can just dodge and melee punish but in that case I usually switch off between the Gatlings so I can use the other ones while they are on cooldown. Unfortunately though, the build is definitely not designed PvE because it burns so much ammo that I've actually lost money using it against bosses.
      Quad Gatling is definitely a PvP only build but it is effective as Hell for fucking up Rats. They can't run away from me and win the match by default if I manual aim and fuck them up before they can. Rats still suck to fight though.

    • @Zeromaru42
      @Zeromaru42 6 месяцев назад

      @@eherden2169 Honestly my only problem with the Shao Wei is that I think it goes into cooldown a little quickly for my tastes, because of this it's probably better as a close range burst weapon similar to the Huxley. The main advantage being that the Shao Wei doesn't need you to Mother it as much. It absolutely shreds armor at close range and while the Huxley does have more individual utility, the Shao Wei I think is better for people who like to get up in people's business and don't want to be parallel processing the entire match.
      Shao Wei also might be really good for harassing people using the handheld missile launchers because usually the way to beat that is to get into close and mid range. Can't exactly kick loop me if I have a shoulder Gatling ready to blow you away can you? I haven't done that much testing with that in PvP but I kinda want it to work, because it would be very funny if someone got past the Missiles and tried to kick you only to take a Gatling to the face.

    I've found the Shao-Wei to be surprisingly useful on Lammergeier designs, honestly. Lammer ACs don't want to spam QB or Overboost (yes I'm an old grouchy Veteran AC Head, deal w/it), and if you're good at maneuvering/evading in float mode the extra reach, higher damage, and significantly higher pressure on the Shao-Wei really shines.

    I've found the laser orbits are a pretty good middle ground option actually, the accumulated impact output is surprisingly similar to a huxley at the cost of much lower burst impact, though it has a much longer up time and ends up easier to manage because of that. The added damage output is also nice. I really need the things firing while I'm doing quickboosts or shifting to an assault boost so the back gats both having a windup and stopping when doing that really hurts the effective output.

    Honestly I think the new gatling really is designed to augment a weapons accumulated impact. I think it pairs better with weapons that have a higher direct impact and OK accumulated impact, so I don't think the vientos are a good match.
    People have been using the Ben gatling guns with them as a meme, but it's actually very good due to the Ben's relatively high accumulated impact per second.

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  6 месяцев назад

      Vientos have high accumulated impact AND direct impact. If you listen to what I say on my last duel, Vientos have such a high fire rate that they often use their active DPS/impact per sec when emptying out their clip right before the stagger because they fire fast enough that the impact doesn't decay for a few previous bullets. This is why the BVO combo is very strong because they tend to skip out on a large portion of the enemy's stagger bar when they time viento spam well.

      If you're dual wielding zimmerman and thinking about Huxley vs Shao Wei I would pick the Shao Wei if you don't have other weight concerns. Shotguns don't suffer hard from their own recoil but they're definitely still affected by the total accumulated recoil you have from other weapons though, so if you're doing 2x shao wei vs 2x huxley that will be a concern as the period you have to fire shotguns before shao wei recoil kicks in is even less.

    The Shao Wei helps me prevent Stagger's bar from going down and making it go up a little, since the shotgun has much more cooldown than the Zimmerman.

    Imo the Ducket should have the longest range and the most impact out of the handguns and the Viento should have the most damage out of the handgun options and then have the Coquillett be the middle ground while also being the lightest/most energy efficient option.

    The thing with the Gatling gun is it can be constant fire. Just burst it properly and it will never over heat. Where as the Hickey is either going to over heat or have a long cool down. Plus if you get two gatlings you can interchange fire to where there is always a stream of bullets

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  6 месяцев назад

      Burst fire for overheat does not increase the bullets you can fire since you suffer more from the pre-cooling delay more often even if it is shorter than waiting for it to completely overheat. And you need to waste power to manage it.

    Once the Shao Wei dropped I think most people immediately thought "hey we have Huxley already" and "Yeah! Time to make some gen1-gen3 mechs" Huxley is more fire and forget while Shao Wei is press/hold, press/hold, press/hold. I think Huxley will still be used more than Shao Wei for the fire and forget but people can run the Shao Wei to punish people accustomed to punishing an opponent's Huxley down time. When you said that Shao Wei can affect other weapons recoils it just didn't sit right with me but it is a shoulder mounted weapon after all.

  • @hackprefect
    @hackprefect 6 месяцев назад

    I threw a Shao Wei on a lightweight AC with the hand pulse missile launchers and the standard 4 salvo missiles on the other shoulder, since missiles don't suffer from the recoil. It's actually better in the mid range, especially if you can manage your spread with quick boosts. The pulse missiles do a ton of impact damage, too. Only problem is you have to charge them in the close range, since they will arc around your target if you're too close.
    Admittedly, I'm not very good and yesterday was my first day playing PvP, so I don't know how good it is as a build. But it's hella fun, I will say.

    Hey, I wonder if you know if the recoil control arms are worth running on a weapon that has low recoil? Let’s say Change-Chen machine guns, to bring the recoil to a minimum? Or does it not affect it much if the recoil is already low?

  • @succmama1039

    You can feather the Heat on the Shao Wei making it theoretically not overheat. Along side the fast reload of the new Heavy machinegun, it just dumb fun!

    Those of us in the high rank lightweight community have found Shao Wei to be one of the best options for a BVO build.
    Its able to massively accelerate the pressure of your vientos, and the frequent quickboosts mean you never really overheat it.

    • @LEOTomegane
      @LEOTomegane 6 месяцев назад

      the recoil also doesn't matter because vientos kick the recoil to maximum anyways if you're using basho arms and just shoving the guns into the target's face

    I don't think theyre meant to be held down to overheat. One second bursts keep the recoil under control and the cooling is enough that you can keep that up indefinitely.

    Does the shao wei actually effect hand weapon recoil? It feels like it has a seperate recoil from the arms due to being shoulder weapons. I tested shao wei with wrecker and nachtrihar arms and the recoil for them was identical, so there is merit in wondering if they even have an effect on your main hand recoil.

    • @LEOTomegane
      @LEOTomegane 6 месяцев назад

      Arm and shoulder recoil are the same. It's just like how your arms' tracking also affects your shoulder weapons.
      The reason it looked the same when you tested it is because they're gatling weapons, which are _just that bad_ at recoil. If you were to test the Hu-Ben recoil on Wrecker/Nachtreiher arms, you'd see the bloom happens in pretty much the same way as the Shao-Wei.

  • @TeamKhandiKhane
    @TeamKhandiKhane 6 месяцев назад

    If anyones calling you out for your rank, just ignore it. That said the Shao Wei has one useful ability as far as I am concerned, its a back mounted MG that then can get out of the way of keeping the bomb thrower up front. Or if you want on a quad, even the hammer. Probably not optimal by any stretch but despite the recoil problem its been a boon for the one AC i run that uses that set. Beyond that though. the Range is the only real advantage IMO even though its slight.
    Also feels like these two in comparison aren't really geared for the same gameplan so there's that too. My 2 cents

    Can we talk about Overburdening and Arms Overburdening; and possible builds that overcome their deficits? I feel like we are missing on some good lightweight/midweight combos that are not picked due to the weight limit

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  6 месяцев назад +1

      Typically just bad to overburden your arms. The effect isn't big if you're just something like 100 weight over, but it nerfs your target tracking & your recoil control. I have not yet found an AC where I keep the arms overburdened.

    • @LEOTomegane
      @LEOTomegane 6 месяцев назад

      Overburdened arms get pretty nasty nerfs to their target tracking performance, so the only time you'd ever be able to use them is either with a melee weapon or when your target is going to be perfectly still for a couple seconds. Even then, this strategy would only work when using the weapon bay to swap from unburdened -> overburdened arms, so you don't have to worry about the tracking nerf because the reticle is already in-place when the arm becomes burdened.
      tl;dr only works with a Javelin Alpha in your back pocket

    I think they could increase the rounds fired by the Shao-Wei before over heating from 25 to 40 it would honestly make it feel more impactful and balanced. The problem I have with the Shao-Wei is that it overheats too quickly and if they increased the rounds fired from 25 to 40 I wouldn't have to just do micro-burst dps and could do actual burst dps.

    The Shao Wei has a unique use in being able to stun staggered enemies even further due to impact accumulation.
    Despite its weight, it excels as a back weapon for lightweight builds, and should be thought of as a finishing weapon/combo ending weapon in a similar vein to the Earshot or Songbirds. Explosive Resistance tends to be higher in general when comparing AC parts regardless of the weight class/type, and Kinetic Resistance is often one of the least fortified values among AC build parts.
    This can lead to the Shao Wei having tank-shredding levels of damage

  • @dhoffnun

    I think pistols and ARs need to be brought to the vientos level rather than nerfing vientos. Nerfing them will just give people one less pvp weapon unless you heavily nerf tanks and nerf missile kites

    • @LEOTomegane
      @LEOTomegane 6 месяцев назад

      Vientos feel terribly unfun to fight if you aren't a tank, though. Their accumulated impact is ridiculously high, so you don't have any breathing room between bursts-all the stagger buildup they deal to you is _still there_ when they're done reloading, as opposed to the Zimmer/Harris style of stagger where a huge chunk of it decays a second or so after getting hit.
      They obviously shouldn't _just_ nerf Vientos, but they definitely need it alongside the obvious heavyweight nerfs.
