  • Despite the fact that matcha tea has recently gained enormous popularity both in the east and in the west, this type of tea has a long history and is the hallmark of Japanese tea culture. Having been common during the Song Dynasty, this type of tea migrated to Japan and developed into a completely unique and inimitable tea culture. It has its own beauty, philosophy and ethics, harmoniously continuing the philosophy of Zen Buddhism.
For a new generation of tea lovers, matcha tea is primarily a popular drink served in modern trendy bars and restaurants, but matcha is more than powdered tea diluted in oat milk with the addition of a bright, sweet berry syrup. This is the tea that is traditionally brewed in the Japanese tea ceremony "Chanoyu". To produce tea of the highest quality, only the best young leaves harvested from April to May are used. After the long and complex picking and processing, tea leaves are grinded into a fine powder, which is brewed by whisking it in water.
As a part of AN SHIM TEA EXPERIENCE program, we hold an ultimate masterclass on this topic, speak about the history of Japanese tea culture, learn how to brew matcha correctly, tasty, and ceremoniously, and, of course, we will try some of the best representatives brought recently from Japan by our tea master. There is nothing that can be compared with freshly grinded Ceremonial Matcha, made by small family tea production, where mastery and knowledge have been passed through generations. These award-winning teas have been carefully selected for you to have a deeper tea experience and will give you a bigger picture of different styles of Matcha tea.
    Did you know that:
more than 50-70% of the 'supermarket' matcha is being made in China!
it takes two years to make a matcha whisk!
'chawan', a special matcha bowl can be different shapes depending on the time of year!
These are a small amount of inside knowledge you will face if you start deeply learning about matcha culture!
