I am guardian to a young man. He came to me through the Foster system. He was 6 when I got him. He was a TOTAL mess! He had several diagnoses including ADHD. He had been fed sugar for his first 6 years. He was in 4 other Foster homes before me. He was moved because of behavior issues. I stopped the sugar! We went Keto/carnivore. We also added nutritional yeast. I make an occasional keto dessert. He is now almost 11. He is a different kid. He no longer suffers with ADHD. He will immerse himself in a book for hours!!! His favorite book at the moment is a collage physics book!!

I always thought I had some type of learning disorder because it seemed too difficult. Now I embrace learning with open arms look for opportunities to learn spelling was always difficult now I learn how to spell a word and I’ve got it. I grew up in a time when breakfast cereal was just coming in in the early 50s. I’ve gotten off of all‘s processed sugar get my carbs down to under 50 g per day my mind is so clear I’m not saying I’m all the sudden Einstein but I am so much better than I’ve ever been in my life.

My mother has been having symptoms of dementia over the past few years and has been getting worse and worse. Concentration is slowing fading away and has been diagnosed recently with dementia. What i have found is that she loves sugar. She will take a spoonful of sugar and eat it. She will have a banana and dip it in sugar. She craves milk chocolate and marzapan treats. She will have toast with sugar. She has All Bran cereal in the morning with espresso and will add 2 or 3 spoonfulls of sugar because its not sweet enough. Everything has to be sweet or she won't eat it. I am thinking of taking the 20 pound bag of sugar that she has and leave a bit until it runs out and then stop buying it for her. I was buying it for her because she would make bread and cookies but now she dosen't know how to make it anymore. I believe her eating sugar on a regular basis is the cause of her having dementia. The doctors always go with its hereditary, its genetic because her mother passed away from it. But i think we must look at the diet which i believe is the cause. I think the lobbyist for the sugar industry has a massive impact on government and health regulators to not make sugar seem harmful. My father is under the impression that sugar gives you energy. This is what the media promotes and here we are a fit and otherwise healthy woman is loosing her mind. Its heartbreaking to see the steady decline of a beautiful and loving mother rapidly loose her brain function. I am going to see if i can slowly reverse it by introducing coconut oil, MCT oil and eliminate sugar from her diet. I have no other choice since there is no help from main stream doctors who want to give her a pill instead of looking at the root of the problem.

@@darkjib I used to think the same way. I learned that it's a lot more complicated. Weight reduction depends on a delicate dance of calorie restriction, food choices, insulin response management, physical activity, and metabolic awareness. Less food can make you fat and sluggish if the body perceives starvation and slows down your metabolic rate. More food can make you lose weight if insulin production doesn't trigger fat storage. The twenty-seven pounds I've lost so far came with NO exercise. My blood pressure (180/110) wouldn't allow it. Now it's 115/65. I always eat to full in my eating window (between 4 and 6 hours). I was incredibly feeling ok, no hungry at all after 24 hrs of fasting. You need to prepare your mind to do this.
2.-The first day from Thursday 5pm to Friday 5pm I did 24hrs of fasting just drinking plain water. At 5pm I ate 4 boiled eggs with salt and 1 Tsp mayonnaise, coffee with little whole milk no sugar, (just one meal this day). Still not hungry at all but a little grumpy.
3.-Second day from Friday 5pm to Saturday 8pm I did one meal on Saturday at 1pm with two boiled eggs, 1 Tsp mayonnaise, salt, plain water coffee/milk no sugar and a snack of two cups of popcorn at 6pm. I almost had the tentative of grabbing a piece of bread but I didn’t do it and I was feeling proud of myself for not breaking my diet.
4.-Third day from Saturday 8pm to Sunday 8pm I’m planning of hiking one hr, on the morning, drink water and eat animal protein (chicken breast and vegetables). The feeling of Saturday night was incredible, something like more focused, detoxified from sugar and that sensation of feeling more energetic! Awesome! From here I have to keep doing keto diet and trying to walk at least one hr daily. Watching this videos helps me a lot, is like to have a personal trainer-dietitian in home every-time I need it, thanks.

I was diagnosed pre-diabetic and I followed your tips on Keto diet and Intermittent fasting recently, I have lost 20 pounds since then. I’m feeling so much better now as compared earlier this year. My only issues are people around me who seems not happy with how I lost weight, these are bunch of carb and sugar enthusiast, and I feel like I’m outcasted from them, and I have tried to preached this with them(which I’m not good at), even shared your video with them but still no success. I've always skipped breakfast. Even with my parents telling me not to as a child. I'd still skip. I was fasting for at least 14-16 hours as a kid without even knowing. All I knew was breakfast would slow me down and playtime would be cut short. If I ate later I didn't have this problem. Fast forward, I still fast to this day and it's very easy. I do anywhere between 16-20 hour fasts daily. Time depends on the day and how busy I am with work, level of physical activity, how I feel, etc. If you're used to eating right when you wake it will take your body at least a few days to adjust to fasting but once it does you won't have cravings. Best part is you can down as much food as you'd like (within reason) during your window of 6-8 hours (average). I had oatmeal mixed with a chopped banana, honey and natural peanut butter- 2 chicken thighs, spinach, 1 sweet Italian sausage, 35 grams of pecans and 2 ounces of muenster cheese-3 whole eggs, 5 ounces of grass fed ground beef, spinach, 3 straps of bacon, 35 grams of pecans and an ounce of muenster cheese
Tldr; fasting is amazing and low carb/keto is fun and delicious.

One of the most beautiful experiences I've had was being in Africa and listening to children play with abandon. No neurotics to make them feel like there's something wrong with them. I would awaken early just to listen to their conversations as they walked to school. Then arrive home running to change into their play clothes. The laughter peeling and foots running to the games of hiding and go seek. I wonder how much time children these days play in the schoolyard (if at all) with all the other madness going on. I don't think it's normal for a child to spend countless hours sitting in a room while they are growing and developing. They need to learn to get along with others and negotiate terms of games and issues with fairness. Adults already conditioned can do it. But not a child developing. When I first heard about ADHD or ADD I knew it had to do with all the goo gaw we give our children from the day they're born. Candy, sodas, bread, pizza, drinks with food colors, and an assortment of chemical cocktails to name a few. Babies with cans of soda in their arms sitting in front of a television or in the stroller to keep them content and quiet. It's not only what you said Dr. Berg it's everything you refrained from saying out of kindness and consideration. We parents need to face the particulars and get real with ourselves about why our children are jumping off the walls and put on drugs that later become an addiction or kill themselves. We need to learn to feed our children for real and stop giving in to the health impediment called sugar. Every day I go without it I am seeing the benefits and they are astounding. Thank you for all you do Dr. Berg. Most of all thank you for the cold hard truth.

I've actually cut down on sugar by for example replacing the softdrinks with water, due to my fear of getting diabetes (which is a far spread ailment in my family) and stopped buying sugary snacks and pastries. After sometime had passed, I did notice, that I was able to to think more clearly, like a fog that had been lifted from my mind and was also able to pay attention to things for much longer periods of time. Even though I was never 100% diagnosed with ADHD, the doctors did say, that I did have some of the characteristics (being a dreamer and being easily distracted as a kid). On the mood side, I'm not exactly sure if it's due to my "disposition", or if I simply inherited my temper from my mother (she can be quite hot-headed when provoked).

I've commented on this, before. I can momentarily reverse an executive function disorder/learning disability, on demand by microdosing cannabis. I've been diagnosed with ADHD with possible aspergers syndrome. I also have aphantasia, which I've also reversed with the exact same method.
The most important thing I want to say is I've lived nearly all of my life not being able to learn and comprehend. For me, the learning and comprehension layer was always there, the intrapersonal communication layer was either disconnected or lacking fuel that it needs to inflate to work with the mind & body. When that layer activated for the first time, it was something I never experienced in my life. I was finally able to focus, think deeply, learn & comprehend, and I was able to do this instantly with no memory recall issues. It was as if the layer was never missing. Anxiety and depression were gone. I had no limitations and was completely free, no longer struggling. The endocannabinoid system is critical.
I suspect sugar and possibly food ingredient sensitivities (excess inflammation) may cause regulation issues with the ECS leading to developmental disabilities. When you microdose and supplement the ECS by matching the level cannabinoids your body would normally produce on its own and your body "magically" starts fuctioning as it's supposed to, then that speaks volumes on where we should be focusing our medical research, NOT pharmaceuticals. It's all varying levels that create this spectrum of abilities and disabilities, the ECS regulates everything. Cannabis cures cancer and even helps people with parkinsons. It curbs my "ADHD" in literally 15 seconds flat.
I've exhausted myself trying to reach out to specialists to help shed light on what it's like going from having a disability to finally being able to learn and function, they could all care less.

I’ve been aware of this since 1989. I was 24, under a lot of stress, and my brain nearly stopped working. I came across a French langage book about the evils of sugar and I tried a low carb diet. In less than one week, I felt alive and intelligent again. No more brain fog, ADD, OCD and depression! I was able to work again, and I said goodbye to a toxic boyfriend. It was wonderful. Yet, after about 3 months, I started to cheat on the diet and I became addicted to sugar again 😢 It has been a struggle ever since

Been fasting 14-16 hours 3-5 days per week and now two weeks in a row. Results on my mind clarity and function are amazing. I quit alcohol 6 weeks ago and thought that all the years of very heavy drinking had destroyed my brain. I’m sure it did a lot of damage but I’m seeing that improved nutrition and eating habits can have a huge POSITIVE impact! No sugar, bread, potatoes to start. No processed food. It’s so much easier than I ever imagined.

    1. Stop consuming sugar and try alternative sugars
    2. Take natural vitamin B1 or nutritional yeast
    3. Start fasting (18 hours a day with a six-hour eating window

So I don’t disagree with what he is saying regarding the link between sugar and focus, etc. It is just important that people understand that what he is talking about here isn’t ADHD. We had a week of face to face classes this year and I thought it'd be fun to experiment with myself. So, what I did was, (I only thought of this after a day of that said face to face) on the second day, I would eat breakfast or just break my fast with anything and that actually somehow made me sweat so much (this was on on one day, idk what caused it tbh or its related but it didn't happen afterwards so I'm not so sure) it made me sooooooooo sleepy, I also couldn't focus and my memory of that day was hazy unlike the first day when I was so energetic also I didn't feel sleepy at all, and my concentration was so much better.
I alternated those happenings to make sure and after a week, I was shookt to the core and swore to continue my fasting of 19/5.
My eating window starts at 2pm then ends at 7pm btw.

I was diagnosed with adhd a few years ago and was prescribed stimulants. They worked when I took them but if I didn't take them a day I couldn't even get out of bed but if I took them every day the dose became less and less effective. A few months ago I started a very low carb diet and eventually it naturally evolved to eating within about a 4 hour window with 20 hours a day fasting. Now I have better clarity without the drugs then I did with them with no negative side effects. This is only 1 of the many ways this way of eating and the knowledge you have given me has been absolutely life changing and I cannot thank you enough.

Hey Dr.Berg, I'm writing you from Germany, so please excuse my English!
I've been suffering from severe concentration-and memory problems since my third Covid vaccination in November (plus unbearable tiredness, exhaustion, tachycardia and high blood pressure...and a few other things). I don't eat sugar and have been doing intermitting fasting (18:6) now for over a year! Have you ever heard of the "Post -Vac -Syndrome"?
(I don't have post-Covid, it has been checked) Nobody talks about it here in Germany, the doctors don't want to admit that there are side effects of the Covid-vaccination in the first place. (It is of course politically not desirable!) I would love to know what you think about this!!!
    Thank you so much and

With mundane task you don't notice or neccesarilty feel it, but surely will feel it when you need to sit for 10hrs infront of computer and need to focus. Dont get fooled by the little boost it gives you now. Sugar steels energy from bit later today, Coffee steals energy from tommorrow. If you need more energy, do more energetic things or go sleep.

I'm looking to get that number to maybe only 10 grams at the minimum but really to 0 added sugar. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a bunch of fruit and only consume natural sugar. And then also eat almonds whenever I get cravings in between meals. Because I'm realizing how sugar is damaging many things in my health from my gut to my sleep to my focus and overall health. I also just started fasting two days ago on a 16/8 schedule. I've definitely already noticed some good things. But I'm going to improve my diet to get better effects to heal my gut and improve my focus.
