Thanks for talking about how jumpy Lissa used to be. I have my first crested who is just young right now. he's about 8 grams. but he runs from me like the plague and poops on me. Needless to say, I dont do a alot of handling with him at the moment from the stress it causes him. I only handle him when feeding crickets. I feed him crickets out side of the cage in a tote so I can make sure he is eating them and i dont have stray crickets. It gives me hope maybe he'll settle down with age and i can handle him a little more without it being so stressful for both of us lol
My crested gecko Houdini is very jumpy and fast! I have done all the things like you said and he is still the same. Just when I think he is calming down ,he lets me relax then jumps. I hope he calms down with age . thank you for the info about the age thing.
Ik im late but crested geckos are natural jumpers. There’s a difference between skittish and jumpy. So take this to ur advantage. Encourage your gecko to jump from hand to hand. If they’re skittish as well then do it over a tub. You also have to remember they the are a prey animal so we can be scary to them. The last thing is you have to do it frequently or they will become skittish again. No hate to u or sostic
@@allyscarrow7235 Mine did that tonight freaked me the f out and I kinda tossed her back in her cage 😅😂 ....... she is fine even still has her tail looked back and I swear she laughed 😂
I'm currently training 8 geckos. Four Gargoyle geckos and four Crested geckos. Every evening and sometimes in the morning I handle different animals...it's definitely not boring in my bedroom/terrarium room! I've set myself at least three years timeframe to get them all/most of them handtame. This should be interesting...
I've had my gecko for 2-3 years now and i never really got to handle him to much as he was in a room with lots of places to escape and i didn't want him to hurt himself, but now he is in my room and I've only just started to keep his terrarium doors open while i feed him as he has started getting used to coming out in the light of my bedroom. I sit on my bed and try not to make too much noise and he just sits and stares at me lol. Hopefully he will get used to me
what about 1 that runs from you in the tank to? i bought him off a breeder that i think never handled him very much he's an adult male going on 4 years old
Any way to potty train a crestie to poop/pee in a corner (like leopard geckos)? I’ve noticed mine usually pees/poops before 8pm so if I handle her after 8pm then I won’t get pooped/peed on but wish she could go in a corner! Since the day I got her, I’ve handled her every day for a few minutes/let her explore my bed while I clean/put in new CGD mix. She loves coming out now. Every night when I open her tank, she comes out on her own. She prefers to explore (instead of staying with me) but I’m hoping she will just chill as she ages
Hey man, new to your channel and just got my first crestie. Just wanted to say you have helped me so much with all of the great information you put in your vids thanks man
mines a baby, the size of my pinky and i feel so bad never holding him but it’s so hard, he jumps on my face, my shirt, and the floor and i’m scared of him getting lost
Very reassuring that even a really skittish gecko can eventually tame down. Every time I get close to ours, it takes off like a bat out of hell. We've only had it for a month though so not all that surprising.
My cresty male looks like fall just more yellow on his sides. Issue I'm having with high end foods and fresh berries and fruit he's not gaining much weight. He's still kinda thin but his legs are super muscular and he acts like a psychopath when I clean his decor in his vivarium. Any ideas for weight gain fruits for him are welcome including if I have to make a wax worm and fruit smoothie I will do so
If your crestie is skinny with have big/swollen legs he might have MBD. When you say high end food I’m not sure if you meant powdered meal replacement. You also shouldn’t be feeding too many fruits to him since they do have a small stomach and you’d want them to be eating something more nutritious first. Hope that helps!
Last night I had a not so great handling session right when I was making slow progress before now. It scared my crestie and I felt so bad. It's tough to handle the leapers and runners without stressing them. She's 8 months and I'm not fond of handling her yet and she's not fond of me. Makes me feel bad. I've never dropped her even once but she runs from me and if she goes to the back of the tank, I won't chase her. It's so frustrating, she won't hand walk and just still races and jumps. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions? I move slowly, she never bites, just avoids my hands. Still has her tail. I move my hand in front of her and get her to step on it but she tries hard not to and just runs off. I try everything. Only very short handling sessions at this point.
What’s the best way to get my new crested out of the tank? I tried to let her crawl on my hand & she just ran away so I left her alone to not stress her out. Should I try to grab her gently b4 she runs away?

Crested geckos are FAST. One night I got done changing out my crested gecko Lily’s food and I closed the cage but SOMEHOW she got out faster than I noticed and I was laying in bed half asleep and I see something moving on my desk and when I look over she’s just chilling. I yelled for my dad cause I was so scared because I have a cat who tries to eat her who was under my bed. She ended up jumping behind the desk and climbed up the wall and when we finally got her she peed ALL OVER my bed and my room smelled SO BAD for the next few days.
@@Sostic Thank you for answering! I started practicing that but I think he needs a lot of time. He's ok with my hand being close to him and sometimes even licks it out of curiosity but after a short time he looks visibly uncomfortable and leaves. I just let him be then and do it again the next day.
