SATUN, THAILAND - Welcome to Khuankhong Garden สวนควนข้องหม้อข้าวหม้อแกงลิง (goo.gl/maps/8JAnGdSeQA6PvocP7) in the southern Thailand province of Satun. It’s an entire garden that’s dedicated to the amazing pitcher plant. As soon as you arrive, you’ll notice four different and very distinct varieties of pitcher plants. And not only does the owner grow them, he teaches about pitcher plants, and cooks them for you to eat! #Thailand #plantbased #pitcherplants
He made a mixture of sticky rice, coconut milk, sugar, salt, and butterfly pea juice to make it blue, stuffed that into the little perfect tube pitches and steamed them.
Along with eating cooked pitcher plants, you can eat them raw. To me they tasted similar to a green apple skin. It was sour, crisp, and had an amazing snap to it. As I was munching on the pitcher plants, I was amazed at their versatility and the possibilities of how they could be stuffed - endless possibilities!
In parts of the island of Borneo, where pitcher plants are abundant in the rainforest, they also prepare rice dishes steamed in pitcher plants. I would love to visit someday soon to eat rice and pitcher plants in Borneo!
Thank you for watching and hope you’re having a fantastic day!

Mark describing the raw version as green apple skin is perfect. I immediately had a sense for the texture. *_This was super interesting._* Edible pitcher plant...who knew? 😀
Mark will eat anything.😔😔😔
Never thought this plant was edible. Interesting and learnt something new Mark. Thank you
He always educated us in varieties of different foods. This is why Mark is the best food blogger.
@Shekeem Pritchard well at times I've seen him say when a certain food is not for him. Plus chillies makes everything perfect I believe.

Thanks Mark, I am wholefoods plant based and this channel is truly appreciated
While pitcher plants are not toxic, they should not be eaten in large amounts and can cause digestion issues, like vomiting and diarrhea
You can always tell how much he rates a particular food by how long he keeps that smile.
A stunning plant. This was a great show. This farmer is doing the world a service by gaining years of knowledge on these plants and by helping them find a place in today's world.
Wow! I’m totally mind blown right now. I live in California and I own a pitcher plant which grows in a humid container in my room. I never knew they were edible! I’m definitely going to try one once the plant is fully grown. Thank you for this! ❤️
Are you sure it's the right type? Makes sure it's washed well!
Me and my 8 months old niece really love to watch ur vids.. and thank you, ur wife, and son .. always stay healthy ....
What a great human. Preserving plants and educating others 👌
Preserving plants to farm and eat them.
Anyone else notice that when Mark tastes something he REALLY likes, or takes a big bite out of something, he goes a little walleyed? Food really IS his passion lol.
Oh wow, I have had that without fully understanding what it was.
Although Smurfs have been using them as a Backpack for centuries!
Thanks, Mark.
Thank for educating the world with wonderful videos about exotic foods❤
Never thought I'd seen a man eating carnivorous plant. But here you are, Mark. 😏
Fascinating ep!
It’s so wonderful that Mica’s exposed to all these different foods in environments. Just wonderful!
I recently started drinking butterfly pea flower tea! I get the dry organic flowers bags from Thailand. The tea is a beautiful blue and it turns a rich purple when I mix a hibiscus tea bag.
Amazing 😻 we always thought pitcher plants as killing plants but they could be delicacy as well as shown in the vdo. Thanks to dear Mark .
Maybe stuffing with minced beef and rice like a cabbage roll would be good 😋😋😋
it's a plant-based channel. Let's open our imagination to all sorts of amazing plant-based stuffings :) I think rice with tofu or lentils seem great!
@@sunmoon711 Absolutely, maybe chickpeas with rice 😋
I feed mine hamburger or flies ... whatever.

i had this pitcher plant version of lemang before in 2018's eid back in Malaysia. i bought at a local street food store selling the sticky rice stuffed inside the bamboo and the pitcher plant. you can eat together with any spicy dishes like rendang, curries and meat floss. since some of the pitcher pot is small, we can taste the maximum flavour from the coconut milk!
Wow, amazing video my first time seeing this plant fascinating 😀 thank you for the education

I also learned something new and rare too see being from California never being in Thailand 🇹🇭 great job Mark.
I wonder what health benefits they have. So interesting.
The egg-white like liquid inside the pitcher can be applied to the scalp, good for hair growth. Look for a young one with an unopened lid.
@@JIM-TREFVTRETRE is it like aloe vera?
@@ssubramanian605 more like egg white consistency
I love the color the butterfly pea gives to rice. I'm also glad to hear that it's also called like that. I've been trying to find that flower where I live and could write a funny book about that quest ... haven't found it still, btw.
