I gave you keto advice many months ago so I deserve the credit. But it is possible that you independently came up with the same idea. On the other hand, your diet back then, few months ago, was so bad that I had to intervene with a dietary advice.

@Ggeezuzz what meds? she is not taking any med. what med is she taking?
This is your channel so you can do whatever you want
Of course, but also their audience get to decide whether they keep following them or not and that's the sad bit. What's a YT channel without an audience?

You are awesome! Stick with it, from Norway helping my brother with his schizophrenia and this might not just effect the people living with the diagnoses, but their families and friends as well. So I thank you so so so much for these videos.
👍👍👍
I don't think people are mad at you. I love this page and think you're so smart, brave and amazing.I sometimes think you don't realize your privilege to get the medical help you need with so many professionals on your side and with such a supportive partner. Many of us can't afford proper treatment and struggle to afford medication every month. I really do love this page and I think it's so wonderful to see how you are progressing. If anything I wish I had the same support as you with my mental health struggles. It's so lonely with little to no help. You definitely make me feel less alone and I'm grateful for you and this page 💖🙏
I don't understand why youtubers feel like they owe something to their viewers. You're literally providing a free service here. The absolute entitlement of some viewers to say that the free service you're providing isn't up to their standards. Damn.
Keep doing what you're doing! Your videos are interesting and I enjoy watching them. (It's because of people like you that I never feel the need to pay for cable.)
😂
“We’re at work Babe! Stay professional!”
Love your work guys! You two are hilarious
That made me LOL too!
It was so cute 🥰
I have been so fascinated with your journey on this diet.
I’m sorry that people would have an issue with you taking personal responsibility for your mental health. It takes discipline and a lot of support to do what you’re doing. Thank you for trying this diet and providing everybody feedback. My mother, aunt, sister, and brother suffers from schizophrenia. I have children, and in the unfortunate event that they will have schizophrenia, I subscribed to your station or channel 2 years ago, as a way of informing myself on what I could do to support them.
So, 1 million thanks to you. So if there are negative people who have a problem with you trying to elevate yourself, schizophrenia is devastating and anything that can be done to improve a person’s outcome is gold. Guys are great, keep it up!
@Ggeezuzzyou gotta point to specific instances if you're gonna make a claim like this
You're really inspiring to me! I'm happy for every win you have, don't let other people dim your light ❤️
Speaking from my own personal experience, I have two parents that are both Ketogenic diet obsessed and prior to this they were just diet obsessed in general..it’s all they talk about. I support your journey and I’m happy that it’s working for you. I personally just find diet videos very triggering and perhaps this might be the case for others. I am also pleased if you find this content helpful.
I think this is a good point that keto (or other specialty/trending diets) can be triggering to people for a variety of reasons because of past experience with someone presenting it to them as a “superior” lifestyle.
THIS. I am recovering from a pretty nasty eating disorder and diet talk really flares up that part of my brain, and I have to work very hard to talk back against it. I'm very interested about this journey and will be very happy for Lauren if this works for her, and I also need to take care of myself.
I think this is where parasocial relationships can get problematic. it's very understandable to be disappointed when a creator you like gets into something you can't watch, but that's like... not actually Lauren's problem. it's yours, and you need to stop engaging with video content that triggers you, even if that means finding a different youtuber to watch.
(edit: not aimed at op of this comment, just on the topic in general)
Same
Your journey has helped me take the leap to try the same diet. I am not going full medical keto but it has helped me stick to it when I see what both of you are experiencing. I have already come off of 2 medications and asking to reduce a 3rd. It has helped with my depression, anxiety, helped parimenapausal symptoms, decreased my migrains, decreased irritations in my crohn's disease, improved my memory issues/clarity. This has been a miracle for me and I took the leap because of what you have been experiencing and sharing. Although not the focus for me (still need it for better health) but I have also lost 20 lbs since Jan 3rd.
Thanks for sharing! I've been wondering about ketosis for anxiety and depression. Figured it should help and it's nice to have confirmation.
Keep us updated please.
You will never know just how many feel encouraged to have the courage to try this treatment and talking to their Docs now about it. How many ? Goes to show that no matter how discouraged a person has been from the lack of results on the meds they have tried.... DO NOT GIVE UP!!! You cannot know what is around the corner to bring you real health! DO NOT GIVE UP -
I may not have ever found out about this option for treatment if I wasn't watching your channel. Im trying it as well and have hope i have not had for a long time. What a blessing. Thank you
do you not read the internet. if you stay up to date you cant miss out
My ADHD symptoms get so bad when my diet is full of bad oils and carbohydrates. When I'm on keto or low carb i feel AMAZING and the focus/mental clarity is off the charts.
I fully support your journey to mental wellness through keto. ❤️ Don't worry about the people that are upset and would rather you stayed sick for their entertainment. Those are terrible people.
the key difference is, is that people with ADHD typically do not have anything against taking medication if they need it and the meds generally make you feel good, even euphoric. Not always, but some people experience that. Anyways, schizophrenic medication or atypical antipsychotics and typical antipsychotics are notorious for their bad side effect profile but also for effectiveness in stopping psychosis. So many people have delusions that prevent them from taking the medication or don't want to because of the side effects. Laurens channel was a channel that showed a woman who was showing the community of a happy looking life with medication, which i think is what many people may be missing. It helped encourage people to take medication and also find hope. For a lot of people, sharing this diet may be harmful, even if she is doing it for her health. Her platform is no longer just a platform for her to be creative, she is a leader in this community and if someone who isn't in the right mindframe views her doing well on this, regardless of her disclaimers in SOME videos, they may do the same thing and not take medication or decrease the dose. I don't think she should be sharing this as heavily as she is. 100% SHE SHOULD DO IT, BUT i don't think she needs to be making "case studies" out of it. She isn't a researcher LOL.
@@madysonfoley I am honestly flabbergasted by your opinion. I was looking for the negative comments to try to understand but I have to say I still don't understand. She can't possibly make a channel and make content based on what people may or may not understand while in psychosis. How exactly would that work? But the idea that it's harmful to show her improving her quality of life is just mind-boggling.
The researchers are the whole team of doctors that are giving her the treatment and She IS THE CASE. And she specifically searched for psychiatrist and specialists to make sure they were alright with doing it public like this...
@@madysonfoleyI do believe youtube creators have a responsibility not to spread misinformation or directly incite people to disregard their own medical routine or whatever, but at some point it stops being the youtuber's responsibility to cater to every possible instance of people taking "inspiration" from their videos. if someone who struggles with antipsychotic medication watches this and decides to copy Lauren's diet and/or cut down on medication without consulting any medical professionals, it's on them and the people actually in that person's life to help them work it out in a medically safe manner. I think people forget that youtube isn't a two-way portal to an actual relationship with a person, it's like TV. Lauren can't see you or tell you what (not) to do, but your doctor and the people in your life can.
@@4n0mie I've reported her channel twice for misinformation.
Your channel has been HUGELY helpful to me and my family in trying to understand my son's schizophrenia. I have been so excited to learn more about keto for him, as a possibility!! Thank you so much for all you do, sending hugs!!
This channel is definitely helpful for those of us with family members suffering. Very grateful for real-life observations.
Yes I agree, I also have a son with this horrible disease
I have a feeling there are a lot of moms on here, looking for ways to help.
I adore you both and have watched your videos for a long time. I live with bipolar disorder. Ive learned a lot here! However, I recently unsubscribed. Im not mad at you, but the keto content has been..all the content. Its not an option for me and while im absolutely, without a doubt, happy for you that its helping you, I'm tired of the keto content being constant. I think its important to share and I'm so glad the impact of has been profound and that its going well. As someone who can't even try it due to health problems, I feel left out and havent gained much from the channel lately. I hated to write this but felt honest feedback from someone who loves your content might be helpful?
I agree with this completely
I hate to say this and it’s good but also makes me think of my days of anorexia and orthprexia…. Can be dangerous for a lot of people..
I have been watching your videos for about a year and I could not be happier for you and how the keto diet has positively impacted your mental health. So glad that you found something that has worked for you. Just like medications, a pill that works for one may not work for another.l, but this is working for you and could work for others. Keep sharing your journey so others may also find their happiness. So happy to have found you and your journey on RUclips. ❤
At this time, using the ketogenic diet to treat mental illness is a groundbreaking treatment even though keto being used as a treatment for epilepsy is a hundred years old. There are people who become defensive when a medical status quo is challenged, especially doctors (sadly). We are all individuals when it comes to how well and to what degree a dietary lifestyle will impact us. Some it might not help really at all while some might see great improvements with others being somewhere in the middle. But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater and wait and see how this all works out in the long term and people should be happy if it helps most people to deal better with their mental illnesses as it does for many other health issues.
Not really… keto diets have been used for autism, add, epilepsy, etc for YEARS….
It’s very hard to be strict keto for long and if you slip you can be screwed so this is not new nees at all… but a reason to be glad for meds in case you can’t micromanage every aspect of your life
So beyond happy I found your channel, I to have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder last year. It’s a very new journey for me and scary. I’ve found being open with doctors has been most helpful for me. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
The focus of your channel has changed in recent weeks - and that's fine! This diet has clearly had an incredibly positive impact on your life, and I'm so thrilled for you. I have no intention of doing keto but I enjoy your channel and am so fascinated by how your experience of your symptoms has changed. I hope you don't take the negative comments too personally. People just in general struggle with change, no matter big or small. Some choose to express that discomfort via commenting, unfortunately. Keep doing you, ultimately this is your channel and you can run it how you wish!
Thanks guys. I know a thick skin is required for RUclips, but I’m glad you’re taking the time to address some of the negative/rude comments and standing up for your position.
I want to drive home to viewers that what are considered “best practices” in medical and therapeutic settings (meds, cognitive behavioural therapy) are not necessarily the RIGHT practices for most people. There is very much an emphasis on shoehorning people into accepted approaches without considering individual needs or quality of life.
Consider that people are regularly being offered electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) to treat depression while psychiatrists researching approaches to treating trauma (Judith Herman, Bessel Van Der Kolk) are considered radical outliers within the field. Does that make sense to you?
With that said, perhaps we could be a little more open to alternative therapies like the one Lauren is trying, and adjusting our minds to listen to a person with lived experience detail her experience with these therapies, rather than staying stuck in the rut of our own ideologies and casual acceptance of medical standards that oftentimes operate from a place of control and apathy rather than care.
There is no cure for schizophrenia, aside from anti-psychotics. These aren't best practices, they are the only practices.
I’m a singer/songwriter with schizoaffective disorder. Your videos are eye opening. I want to thank you for starting this channel. Love watching you guys.
I have posted negative thoughts about this project, but mental health is about fear and anxiety, most of us on meds feel safe and trying something new and taking us out of our safety zone is hard and scary. You also have a support person that you will fell back on. I don't and I eating healthy foods and fruits and vegetables, stay away from caffeine and soda . No fast food or fried foods. It's a fear for most of us. Your willing to try something new and most of us are very happy for you and your family. . It's just not for everyone.
as a longtime viewer and a sufferer who has found immense support, validation, and help from your channel, i’m grateful to you for creating this channel both as a resource for others and as a documentation of your journey. i’ve been skipping a lot of the recent videos because the very mention of ketogenic diets, carbohydrates, and exercise routines is tremendously triggering while i’m in recovery from years of disordered eating, keto-based orthorexia, and anorexia hospitalisations. i’m glad that this chapter of your journey has seen some benefits for you, and i remain a loyal subscriber, but have been taking a step back for the sake of my own mental health. that said, this is your platform, your journey, and your life, and you are free to live your life and share your journey however you like, being mindful of your own needs and feelings first ❤ you’re both precious and wonderful people full of love and empathy, and i have nothing but respect and support for you.
I appreciate your sharing this experience soooo much. There's so many other treatment options I didn't realize we had until I saw them on your channel. This is so important for those of us who want to figure out what could help us balance our medications.
And you seem to be doing it safely with all the support and information from your doctors. I also appreciate Robs perspective on the treatment to see how it effects people differently, but we all have different experiences and medical needs.
It's good to know what possibilities are given the resources.
The Very Beginning MADE MY HUMP DAY COMPLETE! This will cheer me up so much down the road regardless of how chitty any given day becomes from now on. Such a small gift from you two but Priceless! This is wonderful news for your 2 month mark. I suspect that your changes and hard work is helping with all the prayers that some of us viewers/fans are saying for you and your family. I call it whole life treatment. Take care! ❤
I appreciate you both so much trying out this and sharing the journey! Thank you!
You do educate those who want to be educated, people can get better too - following you. It’s your life, go for it!
I can only thank you for your channel sharing honestly your experiences. Please, continue doing this, you are a blessing
I suppose I think it's interesting that Lauren will be so open about this experience and share what is working but would not name her injectables or other medication and talk about what worked and wouldn't. I feel like being open about this, but not the medication, shows an inherent bias against medication based interventions- which isn't necessarily bad, but I do kind of worry about the... framing of this as better than medication based interventions. Even when discussion that Lauren made this choice for her, as a personal choice, I feel like that logic could have been applied to the medication as well? It is very common for mentally ill people to not trust the medications prescribed to them. I just think it would be very easy for someone on meds to see this and use it to come off of their meds. It doesn't feel super safe, I don't know.
Probably because if she says a certain medication doesn't work for her, or causes side effects, she'd feel she was influencing others to come off their medications. Which could be dangerous for them.
That's exactly what she's doing here though, influencing people to reduce or remove their medications in favor of the ketogenic diet.@@louisehogg8472
I think you are bringing up a valid point and using critical thinking. I find 98% of the comments to be supportive and people are genuinely happy. I’m not sure why they are pointing out the negative 2%. The “negative” are all healthy and sound questions that anyone should ask when doing this type of experiment. The brain and body are not like a car and if that was the case cancer, diabetes, mental illness , we would all be healed and cured by now. Even when you do everything right things can go amiss. It is smart to ask questions and think of the long term.
I feel like you're doing something that's so important and is unique as far as I can tell. I've found your videos enlightening and singularly valuable in understanding and managing my own mental health through the ups and downs. Thanks for all that you're doing. I sincerely appreciate these videos and I definitely understand the bravery involved in sharing this so publicly.
Thank you for the update!

I cannot express to both of you how encouraging it has been to watch your journey from the begining , the bumps you endure , as you continue to grow and learn and share your story is truly inspiring. It is becoming abundantly clear that wellness is becoming the forefront for both of you. I cannot express to you both that your profound message is bringing an incredible awareness to alternative treatment for mental health. I am confident to also say that I am pretty sure that it would have a positive impact on your loved ones too. It makes sense that adding food science , exercise and proper sleep patterns to daily living would have a great and positive impact anyones well being. Lauren and Rob, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing! I am looking forward very much to the information on the other metabolic interventions!
I love this channel and your support for people who need this experience and information, I want to thank you for sharing your information and knowledge. Thank you for your husband for supporting you and your channel. You are both great. God bless you both 🙏
You deserve to try anything that you think could work for you, Lauren. How lovely that Rob is doing it with you! People may not realize the risks involved in the strong medications you must take for your condition. My son has been mentally ill since age 18. He is now 42. He has had several psychotic breaks and many hospitalizations. The medications he takes have caused him weight gain of 30# (which is the average I've heard). Many viewers may not realize that you are beating the odds just maintaining a healthy weight. Keto could possibly help many with that issue alone plus the mental stability. You go girl! I'm so grateful for your channel and your transparency with your condition. I learn something every time I watch you. You are beautiful. You are courageous. You are so articulate. Such a gift to the world are you.
Awesome update. So happy for both of you
So happy you are feeling better. I'm all about this.

Thank you so much. I’ve been researching about it.

You guys are doing a great job Don't let anyone bring you down.Much respect for both of you.
I love your channel. This is great information to hear, and I appreciate everything you share. To me this is also great storytelling, and I am so happy to hear you are feeling so many positive effects from this. Even though I don’t personally know you guys, I love you guys. Y'all are the cutest. Keep radiating the love. 🤍
I totally understand your decision and appreciate your sharing it with us. No need to doubt yourself. I have learned so much from you!
Reduction in medication takes time to show effects! My son stopped taking his anti-psychotic medication and it took 6 months before he ended up having to go back on it. I think it's reckless to think your reduction in medication is already showing. That's why we should rely on the experts. Thinking that there's an INSTANT result between reduction in medications and symptoms is FOOLISH.
there are no experts regarding psychiatry. It's a pseudoscience trying hard to appear professional. Having said that I regard all psych meds to be dangerous, as they are all criminally underresearched and biased the research there is.
I disagree. There are many people who see effects of withdrawal much quicker.

I’m hoping you can get passed the negative thoughts towards you all during this project. You can’t please everyone. It’s been such a great experience for you and you should just keep going. This is life changing for you and I hope it continues to go well. Don’t let people get you down. ❤
I can empathize so much with your experience! As a caregiver to a loved one with a SMI, in our case, family and friends (not strangers) had very strong negative reactions to our change in lifestyle. Sadly, after my loved one healed so many of their symptoms ( lost 100 lbs, reserved their pre-diabetes, and was on a minimal dose of only one medication), she became a caregiver to their her elderly parent (who is emotionally abusive) took on the family's lifestyle just to keep the "peace"and ended up reversing almost all of what we had achieved together. Having a healthy, safe, and supportive relationships is so valuable when implementing these metabolic interventions. That's amazing your husband would do this with you! Btw, we also never get sick now! After taking ibuprofen since a teenager for chronic knee pain, it has fully gone away. And my brain feels like it's running on all cylinders. Thank you for sharing your experience and spreading awareness.
I am really glad, and grateful, that you are taking the time and effort to document this. I mean really, the value of this is immense. I tried it, as I commented on another video, without medical supervision and it didn't work out. If I felt I had the circumstances right now to do it with medical supervision, I would *definitely* try it. My diagnosis is bipolar type 1.
I did a candida diet for a while which is low sugar and low cab essentially. Within 2 months crazy brilliant things happened with my mental health. I was playing chess at the time and i notice i could replay key moves on the chess board including remembering positions. It made a huge difference in processing speed and memory for me. I think i have underlying mental illness so the effects of diet are truly profound.❤ Keep going Lauren
Love you both and wishing you only the best 🥰
I am so glad that you are making this decision that seems right for you! You are only one person and can’t be everything to everyone. I appreciate everything you share and the context you give to try to counteract any inaccurate assumptions people might jump to.
You give me hope! Thank you!
It's about YOUR journey and I thank you for sharing ❤
I’m so sorry you are receiving hurtful comments. I’m so happy to hear that keto is reducing your symptoms. I’m here to support you Lauren ❤
So it's working out. Sounds fantastic 👍👍👍
So happy it is working for you and you are feeling better! This info will help so many people with mental illness!
I really appreciate you sharing your journey. It has helped me greatly to be able to manage my schizoaffective disorder.
21:09 thank you for sharing this real honest analysis of ketone dieting. I learned alot from you both 22:48 and I wish you success in this journey 23:08 🎉
I'm fascinated by your story and SO excited this is working for you!!
I am convinced that keto helped me get pregnant with my daughter after a year of trying. And now years later, it is definitely helping anxiety as well as menopause symptoms.
Here to counter those negative people. I can even see a difference in your clarity and alertness in your videos. I'm super happy that you're getting relief with this diet. Keep it up!
I came back to check on this channel. I had to stop following because of my history with ED. I am probably not alone with that. Knowing your history with an ED, I was too concerned with the potential of watching a relapse. Still rooting for you.
I think some of it is that people have benefited from your conversations about coping with your mental illness and hearing about your experiences and that is different than watching a keto diet. I am interested in both but would like to see more of a balance. You are so charismatic and articulate and are able to share things well.
Congrats on feeling better and less mental health symptoms . That gives me hope.
I noticed the same thing after being on a whole food ketogenic diet. I'm 63 but heal much quicker when I get an injury (i.e. sore back after heavy physical work) than I did when I was much younger and if others have colds around me, I either do not get them, or get sniffles or a mild throat irritation for a few hours and its gone again. It's amazing how our bodies heal themselves if we fuel them with good stuff instead of garbage. Keep going Lauren. Any intervention that brings relief and can lower your medication is worth doing.
I think it's great that you both are doing Keto together.
I knew that this would work for U. I couldn't believe you decided to try this. You're a living example for others, and I'm glad you've documented everything. It's a shame you feel pressure from some who may hate the whole thought of this but your life is going to change in such a profound way. I'm very happy for you.
I think you guys are inspirational. Great being able to watch you both try a dietary change to see if it works as a treatment. Thankyou for your courage to document it on the internet.
For me it looks too hard to follow consistently. I think you guys are more disciplined than me 😀 If it’s making a difference to your health and mental health symptoms that’s awesome!
I keep my fingers crossed for continued good news!
Your channel is helping me, thank you. I am trying to stay stable after being on meds for 20 years. I am one month in on LCHF. Struggling to get into therapeutic ketosis. I can't believe how high your ketones are😳 what you eat in a day was so helpful. ❤
You are looking wonderful and glowing! I would love to see the ‘Keto project’ continue to work for you, and for you to go back to school and do your advocacy work there, too. ❤
You have so much to share on your RUclips channel and offline.
Thank you ❤
I am so happy for you both! What a wonderful video. And Rob, it is so special to me how supportive you are of Lauren. That is so wonderful to me. And Lauren, thank you so much for putting yourself out there and for being a “guinea pig” of sorts to help yourself and others. That is so wonderful. By the way, I never noticed your blinking at all!
If I may say this prayer for you, God bless you both, your family, and all of your viewers in Jesus’s Holy Name, Amen! 🙏💖💖

Good job I'm glad it's going well for you
It's cool you all are taking an organized approach to this. My experience was the opposite. I lived in an orderly world, was a computer programmer, everything had to be ordered and perfect, so the thing that ultimately helped my mental health was experimenting, going kind of bonkers and taking a break from the repetition in life. The 90s taught me that we don't need a PHD to feel better, sometimes it's just the things we want to avoid.
Wow it's amazing you have it down to such a science
I found your channel just before you started the ketogenic project. I find it very interesting
Thanks!
100% agree with you guys that is your channel, and you should be able to document your experience. I wonder, though, if it might be wise to include a disclaimer on all of your videos that do not include input from a medical professional acknowledging that there may be risks to trialing the ketogenic diet unsupervised, and recommend that care of a psychiatrist is still a requirement (particularly if viewers plan to adjust medication)?
It might also be useful to flag that people with (a history of) ED's should be particularly cautious and work with the doctors closely when pursuing this diet. I only note this because although there is evidence keto might sometimes be useful for ED's I have seen a number of people relapse into their ED's when attempting to try keto/carnivore etc.
I really don't mean this as a criticism of what you are doing, I think it is fantastic that it seems to be working, and certainly worth documenting. I am also acutely aware that some 'accepted treatments' historically have been very harmful, and that challenging these ideas can often lead to great improvements for people. Indeed I think people are becoming more aware that our current mental health treatments are lacking.
I just worry that due to decreased trust in physicians (sometimes for very valid reasons, sometimes as a result of bad actor influencers) people are seeking advice from content creators and this is creating some worry in viewers. A disclaimer would perhaps allow you to freely document your experience without viewers being concerned over the influence these videos might have on vulnerable viewers.
Wishing you the best on your metabolic therapy journey.
Thanx for the honest update!!!! I'm competitive too to get high ketones, though just with myself lol. I hope the keto diet becomes the treatment you want Lauren and eases any suffering. I love that it's working so well! And that's interesting how you both recover quickly after work outs - any ideas why? I get pretty sore after working out.
