Many of us can't afford proper treatment and struggle to afford medication every month. I really do love this page and I think it's so wonderful to see how you are progressing. I’m sorry that people would have an issue with you taking personal responsibility for your mental health. It takes discipline and a lot of support to do what you’re doing. Thank you for trying this diet and providing everybody feedback. My mother, aunt, sister, and brother suffers from schizophrenia. I have children, and in the unfortunate event that they will have schizophrenia, I subscribed to your station or channel 2 years ago, as a way of informing myself on what I could do to support them.
    So, 1 million thanks to you. So if there are negative people who have a problem with you trying to elevate yourself, schizophrenia is devastating and anything that can be done to improve a person’s outcome is gold. Guys are great, keep it up!

    • @4n0mie

      I think this is where parasocial relationships can get problematic. it's very understandable to be disappointed when a creator you like gets into something you can't watch, but that's like... not actually Lauren's problem. it's yours, and you need to stop engaging with video content that triggers you, even if that means finding a different youtuber to watch.

I have already come off of 2 medications and asking to reduce a 3rd. It has helped with my depression, anxiety, helped parimenapausal symptoms, decreased my migrains, decreased irritations in my crohn's disease, improved my memory issues/clarity. This has been a miracle for me and I took the leap because of what you have been experiencing and sharing. Although not the focus for me (still need it for better health) but I have also lost 20 lbs since Jan 3rd.

    I fully support your journey to mental wellness through keto. ❤️ Don't worry about the people that are upset and would rather you stayed sick for their entertainment. Those are terrible people.

    • @madysonfoley
      @madysonfoley Месяц назад +5

      the key difference is, is that people with ADHD typically do not have anything against taking medication if they need it and the meds generally make you feel good, even euphoric. Not always, but some people experience that. Anyways, schizophrenic medication or atypical antipsychotics and typical antipsychotics are notorious for their bad side effect profile but also for effectiveness in stopping psychosis. So many people have delusions that prevent them from taking the medication or don't want to because of the side effects. Laurens channel was a channel that showed a woman who was showing the community of a happy looking life with medication, which i think is what many people may be missing. It helped encourage people to take medication and also find hope. For a lot of people, sharing this diet may be harmful, even if she is doing it for her health. Her platform is no longer just a platform for her to be creative, she is a leader in this community and if someone who isn't in the right mindframe views her doing well on this, regardless of her disclaimers in SOME videos, they may do the same thing and not take medication or decrease the dose. I don't think she should be sharing this as heavily as she is. 100% SHE SHOULD DO IT, BUT i don't think she needs to be making "case studies" out of it. She isn't a researcher LOL.

    • @JennyJackson-yq6pz
      @JennyJackson-yq6pz Месяц назад +6

      @@madysonfoley I am honestly flabbergasted by your opinion. I was looking for the negative comments to try to understand but I have to say I still don't understand. She can't possibly make a channel and make content based on what people may or may not understand while in psychosis. How exactly would that work? But the idea that it's harmful to show her improving her quality of life is just mind-boggling.

    • @DrSearingstar
      @DrSearingstar Месяц назад

      The researchers are the whole team of doctors that are giving her the treatment and She IS THE CASE. And she specifically searched for psychiatrist and specialists to make sure they were alright with doing it public like this...

    • @4n0mie
      @4n0mie Месяц назад +2

      @@madysonfoleyI do believe youtube creators have a responsibility not to spread misinformation or directly incite people to disregard their own medical routine or whatever, but at some point it stops being the youtuber's responsibility to cater to every possible instance of people taking "inspiration" from their videos. if someone who struggles with antipsychotic medication watches this and decides to copy Lauren's diet and/or cut down on medication without consulting any medical professionals, it's on them and the people actually in that person's life to help them work it out in a medically safe manner. I think people forget that youtube isn't a two-way portal to an actual relationship with a person, it's like TV. Lauren can't see you or tell you what (not) to do, but your doctor and the people in your life can.

    At this time, using the ketogenic diet to treat mental illness is a groundbreaking treatment even though keto being used as a treatment for epilepsy is a hundred years old. There are people who become defensive when a medical status quo is challenged, especially doctors (sadly). We are all individuals when it comes to how well and to what degree a dietary lifestyle will impact us. Some it might not help really at all while some might see great improvements with others being somewhere in the middle. But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater and wait and see how this all works out in the long term and people should be happy if it helps most people to deal better with their mental illnesses as it does for many other health issues.

    Thanks guys. I know a thick skin is required for RUclips, but I’m glad you’re taking the time to address some of the negative/rude comments and standing up for your position.
    I want to drive home to viewers that what are considered “best practices” in medical and therapeutic settings (meds, cognitive behavioural therapy) are not necessarily the RIGHT practices for most people. There is very much an emphasis on shoehorning people into accepted approaches without considering individual needs or quality of life.
    Consider that people are regularly being offered electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) to treat depression while psychiatrists researching approaches to treating trauma (Judith Herman, Bessel Van Der Kolk) are considered radical outliers within the field. Does that make sense to you?
    With that said, perhaps we could be a little more open to alternative therapies like the one Lauren is trying, and adjusting our minds to listen to a person with lived experience detail her experience with these therapies, rather than staying stuck in the rut of our own ideologies and casual acceptance of medical standards that oftentimes operate from a place of control and apathy rather than care.

    I suppose I think it's interesting that Lauren will be so open about this experience and share what is working but would not name her injectables or other medication and talk about what worked and wouldn't. I feel like being open about this, but not the medication, shows an inherent bias against medication based interventions- which isn't necessarily bad, but I do kind of worry about the... framing of this as better than medication based interventions. Even when discussion that Lauren made this choice for her, as a personal choice, I feel like that logic could have been applied to the medication as well? It is very common for mentally ill people to not trust the medications prescribed to them. I just think it would be very easy for someone on meds to see this and use it to come off of their meds. It doesn't feel super safe, I don't know.

I’m not sure why they are pointing out the negative 2%. The “negative” are all healthy and sound questions that anyone should ask when doing this type of experiment. The brain and body are not like a car and if that was the case cancer, diabetes, mental illness , we would all be healed and cured by now. Even when you do everything right things can go amiss. It is smart to ask questions and think of the long term.

    I cannot express to both of you how encouraging it has been to watch your journey from the begining , the bumps you endure , as you continue to grow and learn and share your story is truly inspiring. It is becoming abundantly clear that wellness is becoming the forefront for both of you. I cannot express to you both that your profound message is bringing an incredible awareness to alternative treatment for mental health. I am confident to also say that I am pretty sure that it would have a positive impact on your loved ones too. It makes sense that adding food science , exercise and proper sleep patterns to daily living would have a great and positive impact anyones well being. Lauren and Rob, thank you for sharing.

    You deserve to try anything that you think could work for you, Lauren. How lovely that Rob is doing it with you! People may not realize the risks involved in the strong medications you must take for your condition. My son has been mentally ill since age 18. He is now 42. He has had several psychotic breaks and many hospitalizations. The medications he takes have caused him weight gain of 30# (which is the average I've heard). Many viewers may not realize that you are beating the odds just maintaining a healthy weight. Keto could possibly help many with that issue alone plus the mental stability. You go girl! I'm so grateful for your channel and your transparency with your condition. I learn something every time I watch you. You are beautiful. You are courageous. You are so articulate. Such a gift to the world are you.

    Reduction in medication takes time to show effects! My son stopped taking his anti-psychotic medication and it took 6 months before he ended up having to go back on it. I think it's reckless to think your reduction in medication is already showing. That's why we should rely on the experts. Thinking that there's an INSTANT result between reduction in medications and symptoms is FOOLISH.

    I can empathize so much with your experience! As a caregiver to a loved one with a SMI, in our case, family and friends (not strangers) had very strong negative reactions to our change in lifestyle. Sadly, after my loved one healed so many of their symptoms ( lost 100 lbs, reserved their pre-diabetes, and was on a minimal dose of only one medication), she became a caregiver to their her elderly parent (who is emotionally abusive) took on the family's lifestyle just to keep the "peace"and ended up reversing almost all of what we had achieved together. Having a healthy, safe, and supportive relationships is so valuable when implementing these metabolic interventions. That's amazing your husband would do this with you! Btw, we also never get sick now! After taking ibuprofen since a teenager for chronic knee pain, it has fully gone away. And my brain feels like it's running on all cylinders. Thank you for sharing your experience and spreading awareness.

    I am really glad, and grateful, that you are taking the time and effort to document this. I mean really, the value of this is immense. I tried it, as I commented on another video, without medical supervision and it didn't work out. If I felt I had the circumstances right now to do it with medical supervision, I would *definitely* try it. My diagnosis is bipolar type 1.

I think i have underlying mental illness so the effects of diet are truly profound.❤ Keep going Lauren

    I noticed the same thing after being on a whole food ketogenic diet. I'm 63 but heal much quicker when I get an injury (i.e. sore back after heavy physical work) than I did when I was much younger and if others have colds around me, I either do not get them, or get sniffles or a mild throat irritation for a few hours and its gone again. It's amazing how our bodies heal themselves if we fuel them with good stuff instead of garbage. Keep going Lauren. Any intervention that brings relief and can lower your medication is worth doing.

    It's cool you all are taking an organized approach to this. My experience was the opposite. I lived in an orderly world, was a computer programmer, everything had to be ordered and perfect, so the thing that ultimately helped my mental health was experimenting, going kind of bonkers and taking a break from the repetition in life. The 90s taught me that we don't need a PHD to feel better, sometimes it's just the things we want to avoid.

    100% agree with you guys that is your channel, and you should be able to document your experience. I wonder, though, if it might be wise to include a disclaimer on all of your videos that do not include input from a medical professional acknowledging that there may be risks to trialing the ketogenic diet unsupervised, and recommend that care of a psychiatrist is still a requirement (particularly if viewers plan to adjust medication)?
    It might also be useful to flag that people with (a history of) ED's should be particularly cautious and work with the doctors closely when pursuing this diet. I only note this because although there is evidence keto might sometimes be useful for ED's I have seen a number of people relapse into their ED's when attempting to try keto/carnivore etc.
    I really don't mean this as a criticism of what you are doing, I think it is fantastic that it seems to be working, and certainly worth documenting. I am also acutely aware that some 'accepted treatments' historically have been very harmful, and that challenging these ideas can often lead to great improvements for people. Indeed I think people are becoming more aware that our current mental health treatments are lacking.
    I just worry that due to decreased trust in physicians (sometimes for very valid reasons, sometimes as a result of bad actor influencers) people are seeking advice from content creators and this is creating some worry in viewers. A disclaimer would perhaps allow you to freely document your experience without viewers being concerned over the influence these videos might have on vulnerable viewers.
    Wishing you the best on your metabolic therapy journey.
