    7:54 - I have bipolar with psychotic features that appear in both highs and lows, and I was wondering about the types of therapy or advice you've received for managing the mood disorder side of schizoaffective disorder?
    8:35 - I'm curious if you made any dietary adjustments or changes after your interview with Dr. Chris Palmer and (if so) what effects they may have had?

    11:50 - Do you have trouble sleeping? Do you take anything either regularly or PRN for sleep?

    As someone diagnosed fairly late in life with bipolar disorder I have found your content so helpful in accepting my diagnosis. I relate so much to what you say about "neurotypical jobs"...I have felt a lot of guilt and shame over the years about my inability to sustain a career in a typical 9-5 workplace, but your videos have helped me see it more as a difference that I can work around rather than a deficit. It's so inspiring seeing someone with similar experiences thriving and being open about mental health struggles. Thank you for what you do!

      I’m not judging but would honestly like to know
      Is this why it seems so clinical and nonproductive every time I see a counselor or psychiatrist? If I bring up a troubling issue that isn’t in the description of the mental disorders I was diagnosed with in my early 20s I get told it’s not relevant and we’re not going to talk about that and the same goes when I try to talk about side effects from medication. If it’s not in the book it’s not relevant. So frustrating. I leave feeling like a number instead of a human being who’s at least been heard.

    • @luthientinuviel9942
      @luthientinuviel9942 5 месяцев назад

      @@ruthanneluvsvacuuming6653 ugh, I had a therapist like that where it seemed like they only wanted to talk about my anxiety when in fact I had a lot of other issues like depression that were making the anxiety worse... and I feel like psychiatrists sometimes are just treating new side effects with more and more medications... I hope you can dump those people and find new professionals to see that will actually listen to you. I went through at least 7 different psychiatrists before I found a good one who listens and doesn't overmedicate me. So it might take a long time but it's worth it.

    On 5:20 of your video, I just wanted give some commentary. I am American indigenous and live on a reservation and go to the Native American clinics and they treated my schizophrenia with abilify 😂😭 I know this isn’t the fun answer that some people may want/expect but it’s so true that cultures evolve and are always trying to do things the best way possible. And that’s the conclusion my tribe has come to, medication if needed, therapy, and community. Heavy on the community though, that is one thing that I see as different in my culture than in the pervasive culture of America.

      It’s a spiritual battle not mental illness. If you are hearing voices and seeing visions it is evil spirits or another spiritual isssue.

    • @samanthagowen7299
      @samanthagowen7299 5 месяцев назад

      @@SeerSeekingTruth how do you explain delusions? I had the strongest delusion the other day that if I did not put 12 dollars of gas in my tank specifically, that I would run out of gas on the side of the road. I resisted this delusion and did not put 12 in, but wrote it down to see if I ended up running out of gas. I did not, it was just a pointless delusion. I appreciate what you’re saying and your point of view, but people who say that- I don’t think suffer with schizophrenia at all. I also get very mundane audio hallucinations. Like I regularly hear a car radio when there is no car radio. It doesn’t bother me at all, it doesn’t feel evil at all. Or I’ll hear my bf paying video games but he will be on his phone so I just ignore it, and it doesn’t bother me. It doesn’t feel spiritual to me at all. But that’s just my POV. I’ve also heard the inverse, where people tell me it’s a gift from God, which, it really doesn’t feel like either haha.

    I have watched 3-4 videos of yours now. I would just like to say what you’re doing is amazing!! As it’s helped you accepting it I think you will help so many others!! I suffer with GAD, OCD, and MDD. I went though an episode of constant fight or flight for about a year. It was god awful. It was a lot of physical symptoms as well as mental. Still to this day we don’t understand exactly what happened. I’ve struggled a lot over time not knowing what it was while younger. I was diagnosed more specifically in 2021. But in the one video explaining how you wished it was something more identifiable was so relatable and I just wanted to cry for us and others who go through this exact thing. I happen to stumble on your videos and I can relate while our diagnosis are different. My family has a lot of issues surrounding mental illnesses. We think my cousin may be having something like this going on currently. But listening to others talk on things like this definitely gives hope in scary times. Thank you for what you do! ❤

    This was phenomenal!! ❤🎉
    My rant from yesterday y'all. So much healing and love sent to all here. Hopefully someone will understand my rage and helplessness. But never hopeless! As long as I focus on taking care of me:
    I am so burned out, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually from so-called "friends" with Schizophrenia/Schizoaffective; the worst situation being my "friend" who refuses ANY mental health help at all, but is happy to vomit his symptoms all over me, ruining a beautiful night out on the town, each and every time.
    I feel furious now when I hear people say "Wanna know how you can be helpful to your friend with Schizophrenia?" You know what, with all due respect, NO I DON'T. I DON'T. Why is it ALWAYS about them?! I too have Bipolar Disorder II, and am quite frankly done being used and abused by people who refuse to get help.
    I have spent the past 15 years being psychologically violated by his word vomit outburts, and "trying to help him." Well you know what? Trying to help him IS KILLING ME. Although I am used to being used by nearly all my "friends" as a trauma dumpster, this isn't getting any better.
    Of course I actually want to help people with Schizophrenia, I want to help end everybody's suffering! What I am not willing to do anymore, and what is clearly not serving either of us, is to continue to enable him. And what I struggle to understand, is do people with Schizophrenia realize or even care, that they are not the only ones suffering?
    I'm certain my Bipolar Disorder II suffering has been so acute, that I've come across as selfish, self-centered, and unaware of other's suffering, and I would be a horrible human being if I didn't work to change that everyday.
    I just wish I had people in my life who went to therapy weekly like me, who were sponsored in a 12-step fellowship like me-actually working the steps, who met regularly with their psychiatrist like me, and who took their medication regularly like me.
    I would like to make a video called "How People With Schizophrenia Can Be a Friend to Their Friends With Bipolar." This was just me being honest and I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart. Im just done with the BS and toxic positivity. I'm going to start telling the truth. ❤

    I have an aunt with schizophrenia in my family. Great cousin, actually. I don't know the medication she used to take when I was a kid, but I clearly remember her episodes of disorganized thinking. She came to visit and she would behave in a quirky way. She had trouble gathering her thoughts and sometimes she was fine. The adults in my family knew she was diagnosed but kinda untreated and they've hidden from us for decades. I started researching my family's mental illnesses to understand my own (i have anxiety disorder). And your channel also helped me understand schizophrenia and my cousin's struggles with her life and how hard it was for the family to understand her. They never did, actually. 😢

    Lauren, you are a conscientious person so I am sure this goes without saying, but please be careful with Ativan or any other benzos you might take. I went through benzo withdrawal cold turkey and it was the most hellish time of my life. I have never been so sick. The doctor said because I was on a small dose it wouldn't be a problem; that was not the case at all. Honestly my anxiety during that time was 100x worse than the anxiety I was prescribed it for in the first place. I am much better these days but I think I have some lasting neuropathy from it. I've read "Brain Energy" and the first example given of a person with treatment resistant Schizo-affective disorder going onto overcoming his symptoms gave me hope. Hopefully you've found a medical practitioner who can guide you through. If mental disorders are metabolic disorders of the brain as Palmer suggests, there may be better qualities of life for us all who have MH diagnoses. Again thanks for answering my question.

This just happened last week 😢. It was devastating for her. I don’t even think legally they could do that. But I’m not sure. Have you ever lost your job after a mental health break and then the first day coming back they fired you? Her boss wrote she was let go because lack of work but that’s not what she told her in person.

    Something that has helped me with my depression is drinking green juice with celery and kale or chard and sometimes ginger. I'm an insomniac so I also take melatonin before sleeping and exercise for about 20 mins, about 5 hours before bedtime. My daughter introduced me to meditation and I do that when waking up and before I go to bed. Having that spiritual connection with our Creator has helped me quite a bit.

    Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I'm sorry to hear things are so tough for you at the moment. I am autistic (not schizophrenic) and have been watching your videos a lot recently to help me understand the differences between these two conditions which have historically been confused and are yet in many ways so different from each other. I thought I would bring this up in case the apparent 'overlap' in behaviour between these two conditions, which I imagine is actually very different in terms of subjective experience, might be interesting for you too.
    Just as an example of what I mean - I've been wondering a lot about 'social withdrawal', what it feels like subjectively, what exactly drives you feel you need to isolate yourself from others at times? Another example would be how you experience periods of alogia/mutism, why is talking difficult? How do you feel when someone puts pressure on you to communicate or to answer questions?
    When discussing autism, it's common to metaphorically sit down with a clipboard and tick off these things as 'symptoms' without considering what the person might actually be feeling. I'd be interested to hear your own experience of some of these 'overlapping' traits, if of course they are familiar to you. Wishing you all the best and thanks once again for putting yourself out there.

      I’m assuming Lauren doesn’t disclose all the medications she’s on in case viewers go to their physicians saying, Well I saw this RUclipsr who’s taking such and such… because everyone’s situation (and brain and current health, and past history) is totally different from the next person’s. So it may be harmful to incidentally “endorse” any particular medication. It’s so very personalized to each patient.

    This is strange, but how do you describe psychosis? I feel it somewhat alike a painful fever. I used to laugh for hours, for example. One time, I couldn't tell you what 1+1 equaled. I've scared a lot of my helpers away. People will press you to be normal. The problem with that is that nobody fits all models. We tend to isolate ourselves, and this leads to sensory problems. I will walk around Walmart, but I can't be inside too long before freaking out I'm not getting stimulated enough. It's a long story. I'm glad you share your videos for others. It's a disease with a high mortality rate. I remember my suicide attempts. The voices made me bang my head on the floor. I also had some "assistance" in a way I did not like. For our heroes, it's like, get away from me. This is the ending of my life, not a toy to play with or save or punish. America has done horrible things to me my entire life. I can't escape this horrible place. My life has been pathetic. Who would want to live like that? How do you justify it? Do I want to kill myself now? Not really. I want them to be sorry. I also love my cat. They've destroyed everything about me so many times, and they couldn't help then. It's only when I have nothing, am injured, and socially destroyed that they decide to eat death. Only when they are seen, do they help--and it's a horrible kind of help. Nobody helped me in "Outland" and "Solid State Playmate." I"m sure they'll try to make me the perfect Beetard again. I don't think I have enough neurons left for that.. I'm not getting married.I will not have children. I won't do anything for them. They'll never give up. I like the trickle down ideology where I sin when I do anything at work, make any mistake, a crime that isn't defined, and then I get to the bottom and must die. No amount of pills or brain damage will make me happy. I'm tired of them. Maybe if she feel so relaxed and has no brain that she'll work at McDonalds. Honey bun, you made it so that many of us can't afford to work or will get taken advantage of like me. America doesn't want us to work. America is the place where they'll be "gods?" That's why profound wealth is bad as it is a threat to society. I doubt it will change. They'll simply see the reason over and over again. They are in the Forbidden City. I will never be happy until I get out of here.

      I'm 52 and my symptoms just got worse with time. People become distant and public settings with large crowds and heavy traffic are disturbing to me if I am immersed in those environments for more than 30 minutes. I lived a life seclusion. All my social connections are parasocial and internet based only. It lacks authenticity to me.That not the same as interacting with somebody in the flesh. I have had schizophrenia since I was 8. I wasn't diagnosed until last year. I thought I just had an active imagination. I had very little idea I was the experiencing the world in a very altered way. America is a terrible society to dwell in with such a mental illness. Marginalize with no social health care system. Without the financial means you're on your own adrift at sea. I wanted to express that your isolation and desperation is shared by me.Please take care.

      What do the voices say? What do they want?

    • @LivingDead53
      @LivingDead53 5 месяцев назад

      @@robertsole9970 well, there was a cheerleader inside my head that told me I couldn't prove two lines were parallel, so stupid. There was the little girl I used to take care of when I was dreaming and had sleep paralysis. She tried to scare me, but trust me, it can get way worse. I had three children trying to get my kidney, Cizin kept trying to kill me and the little girl who was really a sea creature. He is the maya god of death, a wraith, and I would talk to a drunk man in my head on one medicine. Another time I had a discussion with an octopus. I could hear my old friends' voices saying that I needed to lose 50 pounds when I weighed like 116 in Virginia. And that mess that they hide from. What do they want? I don't know. It's too difficult to explain other things to normal people. I think they wanted me to die. Voices are a lot more personal and evil than they were say, a century or two ago. People would think the devil wanted our souls. That's real burning, not this, you got the hots for some celebrity say bye to your brain. Now they hyperfocus on it and also use it to silence dissidents in the US. We're all crazy and can get 600 a month, right Autism was a better dump. They still call people like me dogs. "Nobody Praying for Me" by Seether. It was going to happen. Breaking Benjamin won't give up and let me be a hermit. So you're an alien with gentle music and pictures of the cosmos to make it look pleasant. Give us a city, and we'll solve all of the problems. That's what they're doing now. I'm just schizophrenic and never clear.

    Do you know how many people have plans to do all the things they want to do when they retire? I never thought about traveling when I was older or anything. What made me happy was spending time with my kids and working and cleaning and cooking and helping others in any way I could. Even when I was happy I was never really happy and I had things mentally that were a problem. Even though it made me happy I was very depressed at the same time. It did keep my mind focused better and left less time to focus on negativity. Now that I’m disabled, I wash a few dishes and feed myself and the cats and can’t do anything for the next few days. It takes me all day to do a little which leaves a lot needing to be done. it’s very exhausting and discouraging. I no longer feel like I have any purpose. I feel like a waste of space and I have lots of time to focus on the things I see and hear and feel that are not real. I have the TV on watching Netflix or Hulu while watching RUclips as much as possible. The more overstimulation I have going on the less I feel the depression and rage and inadequacies I have. There has to be a better way. This isn’t living, it’s existing. I know it’s just the way things are and that I do as much as I’m capable of doing and still push myself to far. How do I emotionally accept my limitations. No matter how much I intellectually understand it I just can’t accept it on an emotional level.

      Could be just the hyper-cultural name for what North American calls Schizophrenia Spectrum.
      Part of it is a name game and part of it could be just a North Aerican interpretive overlay.
      The question is: what is really disturbing, why and does it need to be sedated or suppressed....? is it really about sedating/blunting emotion and for what reason...?
