Reminds me of the time i had a pizza place in Seattle 19 years ago. Some of the employees were brain dead. One time i had an order for a half pepperoni and half cheese pie, so the employee asked me which side of the pizza to put the pepperoni on. We were open until 3 am so i have stories that you wouldnt believe unless you saw it for yourself.

@@speedingtaurus1814 Prez was surrounded by a bunch of avid fans, the owners tried to give him free stuff, and he flew there specifically because of the contest and only gave it a 6.7. You could tell by his face he wanted to give it a 5 or lower. It's a college pizza place, it's poorly made drunk pizza.
That pizza looked like shit. He tried to save face by saying that he was including the crowd. Horse shit give em a real score...pizza was trash

I worked at Shakespeare’s from 2011-2013. It was a great place to work. The staff was probably 25 people and we all treated each other like family.

@@Nopenotatall As a local, my experience is that it's very hit and miss. Sometimes it's too soggy, sometimes too dry. Inflated price for what you get, as well. But I do like the atmosphere and the cheese bread.

As someone from missouri who eats Shakespeare’s a shit ton every year, it’s not as bad as it looks on camera. It’s actually a great pizza.
I’d say Gumby’s is better in Columbia. Better price and better pizza taste in general.
I lived most of my life in Como, and I always felt Shakespeare's Pizza was an overhyped cult. Which makes for a great ambience, but the Pizza would be mushy and the toppings would leave the pie soggy.

I agree, my son worked there and can make the pizza at home too, so I'm lucky! Sometimes I get homemade Shakes even though I don't live in Columbia anymore.

6 years ago my son started at Mizzou working on his doctorate.We were with him for a couple of days helping him get settled in.We are from Houston and somewhere I had heard Shakespeare's had good pizza so we had one there. This past May we attended his graduation.Before we left Columbia for the last time we stopped and had a pizza there.The beginning and end of a journey.

I live in KC about an hour and a half away from Columbia/Shakespeare's. We make a trip to Columbia a few times a year for Shakespeare's. People assume because we drive 3 hours round trip for pizza that it is the best pizza. Not really but we love the atmosphere of the college town and the restaurant itself is pretty cool. They have built up a loyalty with former students that stays with them after they graduate and move back home from campus.
I grew up there eating Shakespeare's since I was a kid. They once had the Bones Brigade set up the portable half pipe in their parking lot, which was epic. Good to see its thriving with all the new student high rise buildings all over downtown.

5.9 absolute max, 6's are pizza you still want to muck if drunk or in desperate need of pizza. "Free 5's" are pizza you'll accept if free but won't pay for it. "Family/Friend 4's" are pizza you'll only eat if your family or friends made it and you're just trying to be nice. 3's and below are basically inedible unless you're poor or hate yourself. 7's are the baseline and you'll enjoy it if it's nearby but won't make too much of an effort. 8's you go out of your way to eat them but mostly within your city or nearby cities and 9's you actually travel for, usually out of state/country. I mostly made this up on the spot.
Being from Columbia, I can tell you that Shakespears is not that great. They are known for their fresh and overly portioned toppings they put on their pizza. Getting a cheese pizza at shakespeares doesn't do it justice. With that being said, 6.7 is way too high lol

I went to Mizzou. Reality: it's the most overrated pizza in town. It's so highly rated because of college town tradition and nostalgia. When you go to school there, it's the happening place that everyone meets up at.
Everyone in Columbia thinks it should be highly rated because they honestly don't know any better. Check out the Shakespeare's page on Facebook, the comments saying it deserves at least a 7.4, or even an "8.2 all day" are comical. Lots of people have never even left the midwest, only venturing to nearby states. I'm sure the best pizza any of them have had was Chicago style. 6.7 is very generous for how average the pizza is.
Their pizza is usually pretty bad. The crust on them is usually burnt on the bottom. The pizza is hard to chew, pretty much a chore to get through. The flavor of the dough is nothing special at all, very bland. I get why people like it, but I'd never enter it in a contest.
Wise Guys pizza and Pizza Tree both make a better pizza in Columbia.
At the very absolute best i'd give it a 6.1, otherwise it's usually around a 5.5 on a good day. It fills the hole when you want to get wasted and watch a home game. But don't let anyone convince you it's great pizza.
It's like when I went to SIUE, the most happening places to go to were Bull and Bear's (bar) and 54th Street (another Applebee's). I disliked 54th, but I only tagged along with my friends to go there. And about the pizza: after going to NYC this past weekend for Thanksgiving, I realized that midwest pizza does suck as a whole. Chicago-style is the best the midwest has to offer, yet some pizza enthusiasts will say it's not real pizza.
@@djtrankilo231 Chicago is just a different style of pizza, and people typically tend to like whats available to them. But then again, the majority of people have bad taste and a stubborn bias for liking what they grew up with.
Missouri in general is lacking in a lot of quality. Budweiser/Busch is horrible beer. And their only good food is BBQ. But even then i'd argue that Texas has better BBQ than STL or KC. They have STL style pizza, but its nothing special.
Missouri really doesn't have a "style" of delicious things that are unique to the state other than BBQ. Everything around here is bland.
5.5 is being kind. It's edible.

Gumby’s is better in Columbia. Pizza tree is fire too. Wise guys though is probably the exact same as Shakespeare just cheaper. I don’t get why Shakespeares is so much money though. All the hype I guess.

I went to Mizzou and maybe my taste buds were juvenile at the time but I always thought Shakespeares pizza was really good. Sure I’ve had better but I would put it in the high 7’s bc I liked the sauce and the flavors. The crust is pretty basic tho.

I’m from Columbia Mo shakespeare’s is the best pepperoni pizza I’ve ever had. Not sure about plain cheese tho. Still a great great pizza and my favorite place. 10/10 for me!
Obviously NYU, Columbia, Fordam, etcetc have the best pizza nearby. Same with Yale and University of New Haven, Quinnipiac, So. CT State. Lol. University
