One of the greatest comedies ever made. The thing is the comedy distracts from how good the actors are. I remember it first coming out - I am English - and although I always knew it was a put on, it was years later that I found out it's American - their accents are so on the money I thought they were English. Now in 2022 I have seen the film 20 times or more and I still laugh. One of the best films ever made.

Christopher Guest I think has dual citizenship, American and British, so his accent isn't without extensive influence.

That being said, the comedy also takes away the brilliant musicianship. I was fortunate to see them at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles in the early 90s.

I appreciated the respect Don Giller, the genius uploader, showed by not superimposing the dates over the video. Then I wondered if they were in the description and I said, nah, few people would go through trouble of listing the segment dates. And lo and behold, there is every single date in the description. The gratitude that historians need to show Don should be enormous.

Paul Shaffer is only half joking and he's completely right, too much of his great part was left on the cutting room floor. But This is Spinal Tap is probably the only movie in history that gets better the more scenes you add back in: I've watched the deleted parts so much, and some are so brilliant and iconic, I can't remember anymore if they were in the theatrical cut. It's absurd that we never got a properly remastered three hours DiBergi's Cut.

When watched together, Michael McKean's interviews tell an amusingly tragic story where first he's excited about his new projects coming up, then he reveals that they flopped, then he's salty that he didn't make much money on the Spinal Tap tour to make up for it, lol. I admire his candidness throughout.
It seemed like Harry Shearer's short film got next to no reaction from the audience... for which I don't blame them... that was probably too niche for the general public.
Thanks for including the Spinal Tap performance- the interview has been uploaded elsewhere, but I couldn't find the performance.

One day in 2002 I woke up in my West Village apt. to find them outside filming a scene for "A Mighty Wind" (never used). I found a Mojo magazine with the Beatles on the cover and had all three sign it. Wish I knew where it was.

I saw Spinal Tap in concert at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA in the summer of 1992, on the "Break Like the Wind" tour.
Those guys could play, I don't know why the puppet show got top billing.

@@Wolf_Larsen If I was stranded on a Desert Island. I would only need CD's by 4 Bands.
Spinal Tap, The Folksman, Derek Small's All White Reggae Band, Skaface... and David St Hubbins releases with the London Philharmonic... 🎸👍

Bassist Billy Sheehan told us that he did not find the movie funny at all bc everything that happened in the movie was exactly like the UFO tour when he played with them, including the bit about the girlfriend becoming the manager.

We listened to Credibility Gap lampoon the news on KPPC, daily. Saw them perform in small local theaters (pre-McKean and when he joined the troupe). Tremendously funny satire. Would love to find recordings.
