    The great thing about this scene is the fact that the instrument at 1:00 to 1:17 is actually a 6-string Fender Bass VI.
    Only about 300 were made of this type, and the one in this scene is one of just two ever made in that color.
    That really is a rare instrument.

      That's my favorite part, even over "these go to 11". I say it all the time to people too, but it's such a basic set of words that no one ever knows and I think even I don't realize what I'm saying half the time.

    When I saw this in the theater, Nigel discusses his shirt with Rob at the end. He explains that it is an exact replica of his skeleton if you could use x-ray vision to see through his skin. Rob says, "Well, it wouldn't be green." Nigel looked puzzled.

They told me to take her for a rip but I said no. Just like this I almost felt guilty looking at it.

    i love it at 1:33 when nigel has that smile on his face as if he's really proud he's thought of this idea, then at 1:37 after the interviewer asks him if its louder, his expression changes as if to say "how can you not understand?!"

    What might be a fun fact about the scene with Nigel and the guitars, for those who are a fan of the movie. The guitars in the scene were loaned by Norm's Rare Guitars for the movie. In actual fact the flying V which you can see in the background is Norm's own Amos Arthur Flying V - an extremely precious piece which he sold not long ago to Joe Bonamassa after owning it for 40 years. Its got a strong heritage and a lot of photographic history. Just linking some cool info I've picked up from other videos I've watched related to this.

    Reiner as straight man in this bit is sooooooo good. Hilarious scene. I was at work last year and Reiner came in the place and I nearly fanboyed him - tell him how much I appreciated him as a filmmaker, but he had family with him so I left him alone.

    It's not the phrase 'these go to 11' that's funny (although it is!), it's the pause just before where you can clearly see Nigel's brain trying to process that question.
    Christopher Guest nailed the vacuous rock star tropes so well that i notice new subtleties every time I watch the film!

    I actually saw a subwoofer a number of years ago and the volume know went to 11! Whoever was responsible had to be a Spinal Tap fan. Seriously this movie was brilliant! I first saw it in the mid 80s as a teenager and I still love it!

    "These go to eleven" is a useful English idiom for many occasions. Try it the next time your boss suggests something idiotic. Use it to disarm your spouse and end another of those nasty arguments about household chores or toilet seats.

    That collection is sick! Black Beauty, '59 Paul, Bass VI, L5, 50's Flying V, the white EDS-1275, all the other Pauls, Teles and Strats, not to mention the Marshall...I hope when I die, I can end up in a room like this.

    The Heavy Metal groups hated ST at first because they took it seriously , later on most realized it was all in good fun. The Horsepower Guitar from Peavey is one of a kind also. Only 25 were made

      Yep, and it was posted in 2009, 2+9=11 and on June 20, which happens to be the 171st day, 171, starting and ending with 1 and being 11 days before the first half of the year

    I got several of my guitars brand new in the 90s, when I first started playing - now they're older than these "old" guitars were when this was filmed! ...I feel ANCIENT
