      It was such a vicious, opportunist murder, I don't believe it was his first or only serious, sexually motivated crime against a woman or child.
      He's a case for a whole life tariff for sure - no parole board can guarantee such a vicious killer will be safe to live freely among the public again.

    The thing about voluntary DNA sweep research is that no one expects the perp to cooperate, and he doesn't need to for it to succeed. Usually people in these rural areas have lived there for generations, and have relatives living in the same area. Even if Jasper S. Hadn't submitted his DNA, he probably would have been tracked down anyway via the DNA of cousins, siblings, nephews, etc. So he probably realized that the game was up anyway.

      @@erwinlommer197 I guess it has to do with the crime rates in each country/city though.
      I'm Brazilian. We have very high crime rates, specially in larger cities. So it's unusual to let kids walk around on their own.
      But it's not the same everywhere. My sister lives in a very small rural town next to mine. And my nephew can walk around on his own since he was about 6yo. He asks permission from my sister and tells her where he's going. Everyone knows pretty much everyone, so there's always someone keeping an eye on the kids, even if not "assigned" to do so.

      @AvéLukas your statement, "when there was literally no crime towards children." has never been true in the entirety of our written history. Children have been exploited, abused, & murdered in every generation. Thinking that this was something new must be something to do with how you were raised. Not that it's a bad thing to grow up in a safe bubble but others already know by experience the world is a bad place. Did they know that hitchhiking was dangerous at the time? Hell yes. Unfortunately, they did it anyway knowing the danger.

    Has the world ever really been safe for children?

    • @chrisb2038
      @chrisb2038 2 года назад

      no but in the 50s things were just different. it generally was safer than it is today, so when stuff like that started happening it was brand new and unthinkable to people

    • @Strype13
      @Strype13 2 года назад +2

      @@chrisb2038 The 50s were most definintely not safer than today. One major difference being crimes and/or violence was much easier to get away with back then. People weren't carrying video cameras around in their pockets, buildings weren't covered with surveillance, and law enforcement didn't have the ability to track people via GPS like they do today. Basically, violent crime itself has gone down, but the number of convictions have shot through the roof. And what do you mean by "started happening?" Violent crime did not start in the 50s, my friend. It has been around since the dawn of man.

    • @chrisb2038

    • @Strype13
      @Strype13 2 года назад +2

      @@chrisb2038 You can disagree all you want, but you'll be incorrect in doing so. You can very easily go look up violent crime statistics for yourself. By chance, are you aware of how many hitchhikers just disappeared off the face of the earth between the 50s throughout the 70s? The number is staggering, and that is just one small niche.
      If criminals can get away with crime, they're going to do so. Just because we don't have the arrest reports to confirm the behavior doesn't mean it wasn't happening - the vast majority merely flew under the radar. Seems you may be implementing more modern "big city think" to your analysis which simply wouldn't apply to a proper evaluation of the 50s. Times were certainly different back then, but they definitely weren't any safer. Again, go look it up for yourself instead of wasting your time here with your meaningless anecdotes.
