      Yeah it's pretty much the same, the Normandy Crash Site track has another 30-40 second audio section added while that part here is missing.

      When I first heard this track 9-1/2 years ago, which was at the Normandy crash site on a walkthrough video series, I really thought, because of the eeriness of this music, that something dangerous was lurking about just waiting to ambush you as you explore around collecting the tags and seeing the flashbacks, especially since you are armed during that part.

    This music is so haunting. I remember how terrified I was when playing through this for the first time - this music, the bodies, wetness and empty pods everywhere, the overwhelming feeling of being trapped, all as if being inside of a hive. I was constantly looking around, because I was sure that something will suddenly jump on Shep from around the corner.

    The Collectors will forever be scarier than the Reapers, especially after ME3. The Reapers are just Ye Olde Giant Doom Robots - always a fun things sure, but even the most fucked-up of their husks, while creepy, don’t come anywhere close to the Collectors.
    These are the corrupted, decimated, eternally suffering ruins of the last few survivors of a once-proud and powerful race. Twisted beyond compare, watching you from the shadows, the sheer _thoroughness_ of their corruption is terrifying. And what makes it worse, to the discerning viewer, is the shattered, tiny remnants of what must be older species mixed into the Collector faction - carrying the blatant implication that this is what will happen to your kind, too, corrupted and ruined and used and ground down until all that is left is a a few tidbits to assist this sinister force and its dark masters into letting the remnants of newer races, yet to be born, sharing the same, horrific fate.

    • @claypidgeon4807
      @claypidgeon4807 2 года назад

      @Людвиг Первонейкин Their Praetorians are outright stated to have been made from an unknown species that are _not_ in any way affiliated with the Protheans and many of the wrecks at the Collector base bear no resemblance to any known Mass Effect species.

      While i agree with you and having it as my favorite in the series, I still think that Mass Effect 2 overall should be an spinoff due to how it destroys and does absolutely nothing with was already established in ME1. For example, on 1 you stumble on and actually talk to a Reaper and in the ending Shepard promise that he(or she) will find a way to stop them, you have the Council supporting you because they almost got killed by one and are probably aware of what's going on. Then 2 came along and puts you to fight a completely new enemy and disregard everything you did on the first game, the Council is back to denying the real threat and while you do manage to wipe out the Collectors, you still have a real problem looming around the corner. Mass Effect 2 end up going nowhere with what was established on the first game. As for Mass Effect 3, the writers sould be punished for turning something terrifying into a simple drone for a star child

      Yup. Mass effect really nailed the whole cosmic horror vibe for a few of their missions, especially in ME:2 and ME3 late game and Leviathan DLC. The universe might look beautiful and wondrous but it's a big bad place, and it hides entities which don't care about humans or other sentient life.

      I recall somebody saying, as I was watching a LE playthrough, that this was meant to be a sinister version of the Prothean theme or Vigil's theme from ME 1. The gunplay and weapons feel amazing and responsive, all the companions are intresting and so is their personal loyalty quests. Great villain in Harbinger and the Collectors and to some extent the Illusive Man. God I love Mass Effect, I have high hopes for the next one.

    That's one of the most menacing places I have ever visited in my gaming experience. Look at the picture and imagine: one word too loud and these dormant walls will start moving, vibrating with truly ungodful creatures. Besides, for the most part of the game, this ship itself is the antagonist, not somebody on it's board.

    • @claypidgeon4807
      @claypidgeon4807 2 года назад +8

      Also just how corrupted it is. A close look reveals two distinctive things:
      -The fact that this was once an orderly, proud vessel of presumably Prothean origin.
      -The fact that much of the shit that goes into the Collectors must come from even more species the Reapers murdered. The Protheans are just the most recently utilized until they are mostly expended, and then what’s left will help create the corruption of the newest. The Collectors are the billions-of-years-old product of who knows how many ruined species all mashed together into one, horrific product.

      @MrKarnator (sorry for bad english) interesting point of view, an alteration of the body and technology you think ? I don't think so, the inside of the collector ship is too ... insectoid. During ME3 prothean flashbacks, you can see that the Prothean techno was well developped and quite esthetic (a bit of Necron (40k) look - Big and smooth black faces with green lights).
      Maybe the collector ship was an ancient prothean ship, but damn that was an unpleasant and huge corruption ...
