Hi Tyler, such an interesting video. Funny that you should say that your student was an Australian, because that's where I am from and this is something that has bugged me about my setup for a few months now. I was getting lessons and something they made me change was that left hand grip. They moved it the club into that exact "in the final crease of the fingers position" and told me that it had to feel like there was an air bubble between the left palm and the grip. At the time, I pointed out that when the club was seated there, that very small flexing movements in the fingers was moving the club face quite a bit. His fix to this was a pre-set of the wrist position into the impact position. I stopped getting lessons about 3 or 4 months ago and everything was going along relatively okay. And then over the last few (five) rounds, I honestly feel like I've lost control of the face and I'm having to strangle the shaft. Now I have started fatting, shanking and thinning shots without pattern which is ruining my game. I averaged high 70's to now shooting 100 five rounds in a row. The reason that I think you are spot on with your analysis is that, just last night, I was looking at my golf glove and I have worn it out faster than any before and thought it was the maybe a bad batch. I have worn the thumb clean trough and the fatty pad all along from the pinky to the wrist. I doubt this one thing will instantly fix my game, but it might help by calming one aspect of the swing so that I can try and work out what else has come unstuck. On a side note, he also told me to "drag the handle around my hips as if I wanted to put it into my left pocket." I was hitting a lot of push fades (right of target line and fading right... not good) and this was the fix. But I feel like all it did was shift the (what was a pretty neutral) swing path out to in. So now I am hitting pull slices... and the worst bit is that so much changed that everything feels out of whack now... Thoughts?
I would definitely make sure the grip is locked in and it will be interesting to see if the glove doesn't wear out as fast. I'd say if you are hitting it right it might be time to focus on squaring the face earlier and pulling the hands a bit less through impact.
@@tylermcghiegolf Thank you so much. The short response is that the grip made a huge difference. I managed to get onto a launch monitor and verified that the grip was adding massively to my dispersion pattern. I played nine holes with the grip change and shot 1 under. Proof in the pudding. I have a longer response to this with some statistical data, but felt like this wasn't the forum for it. If it's okay I'll email you that directly and we can discuss the data.
Wow you are so good, I stumbled on your channel accidentally and the content is fantastic. If the weather wasn’t so bad over here in the UK I would be out tomorrow using you’re drills. Keep up the great work.
Nice job ,, beautiful swing ,,effortless but very powerful ,,were did you have the scholarships baseball, basketball ??? lol.lol but choose Golf great choice awesome teacher!!! Thanks again!!
Tyler, I feel like I have slowly been able to achieve this smooth natural lag more often lately and it feels great but it seems to cause a miss to the right. Is my grip and swing too “loose” allowing the club face to open to the right at impact? Thanks for all you do!
Watch for two things: where the club face is at half back. Is the face still pointed slightly left? If its straight up or open you'll tend to have to adjust to get it square. The other thing is at the top making sure you're not cupping the wrist at the top. The straighter/slightly bowed wrist at the top is easier to square up. At least thats been my experience. Hope that helps and interested to see what Tyler thinks!
Yes it is a bit dependent on the grip and the forces on the grip in transition. With the soft hands you will need a bit more twist on the grip to square the face to square it. I like Jacob's point also.

@@brianellis5146 Sure Brian you can email it over.
This is money!! Been working on this feel with the 7i, feels like I barely swing and I'm hitting it 140-150 in the air... Always great contact.
Awesome man!!!! Love it! I hope life is good!

Thank you!
Great video! I definitely hold the club way to tight from time to time. Thanks again for putting out these videos!
You got it Shane!

Thank you! Played basketball in high school, but my best opportunities were in golf.

Jacob McCain thanks for the reply, will definitely look out for these 2 points during my next range sesh 👍
