Instant Pot Duo Plus vs. Instant Pot Duo

  • So the Instant Pot Duo Plus is basically like a hybrid between the Instant Pot Duo AND the Instant Pot Ultra.
And I have to confess, although it lacks the altitude and simulated sous-vide feature of the Ultra, between its simple button access AND upgraded display from the Duo, it's my favorite Instant Pot yet!
If you want to see a video of the Instant Pot Duo compared to the Instant Pot Ultra, check this link out here!: • Instant Pot Ultra vs I...

Jeff, you didn't really talk about my favorite differences. The Duo always uses times in minutes, the Plus uses hours: minutes. For example, to pressure cook for an hour and 25 minutes, on the Plus you set 1:25, on the Duo you set 85.
The Plus also has a removable power cord, much better for stowing. Just take the cord off and put it in the pot. The Duo is a permanently attached cord.
    I have the Plus

What you say is only true for old Duos (like the one in this video). I have a Duo V3 and the cord is removable. Also the control panel differs a bunch between older and newer DUOs.

I ordered the Duo Plus 60 on Amazon's 2019 Black Friday ($69). I then saw the Duo 60 for $49 that listed accessories. As I wasn't sure the Plus had the $8 steamer rack, I cancelled that order & replaced it with the Duo @ 11:59 PM. I was alerted the next day the Plus had been shipped & couldn't be cancelled, so now I have both models. I have until 1-31-20 to send one back. When the PLUS came it wasn't the same IP shown in the ad. The one I got included sous vide. Since many of the beginner's YT videos are for the Duo 60, I have been using it almost daily. I pulled out the Plus today to test the sealing rings I just received & couldn't figure out how to seal it, but I take it from your video, the obvious choice would be the PLUS for $20 more.

Thanks for the review, Jeffrey. Good to know that there's not a lot of difference, and not worth buying the Duo Plus if you already have a Duo. I just wanted to mention that I am one of the apparently few people that does use some of the preset buttons on my Instant Pot. The presets have an advantage for me because the they keep/save the last time that I input, and that I find is useful for recipes that I do a lot; i.e., family favourites. I use the Pressure Cook/Manual buttons for trying out new recipes and/or recipes I don't cook all that often.

I love mi e I have the 8 duo plus. Not that I need one that big but at least I don't have to worry about over filling it. Also I was sauteing and went to out my liquid in to scrape the bits off the bottom I didn't get it all off but I didn't think it mattered. So when I dumped all the ingredients in and turned it on after a few seconds it said "Burn" and it wouldnt cook. It scared the you know what out of me. So make sure you get all the bits off the bottom after sauteing 😄

Finally after 20 minutes or so it started counting down. I messed with the valves and I did a quick release should i do quick release when I don’t want to overcook something? And just leave it alone for natural release? TIA! You seem to explain the best !

I like your videos. I hear you say many, many times that you don’t use the presets on the IP. For a long time you weren’t being heard. Until the Evo came out. I think they hung onto the presets so long because many people who don’t understand the pressure cooker think the presets are carved in stone (well the rice button is). I’ve decided to adapt the presets to my specific needs. For example, I make a lot of medium boiled eggs, so I’ve changed the egg button to those specific parameters. It’s kind of nice just pressing one button. I’ve changed “porridge “ (who eats that?) to my settings for steel cut oats. I think you get the idea. Eventually I will alter all the presets to my my needs since they remember the last settings used. It’s kind of like using the quick dial feature on your smart phone where you only have to press one number for a frequently used connection. It’s just a suggestion that maybe you could show people how to take advantage of having the ‘unused” presets. You are the one to reach many people & you’re a good teacher.
